I hate paper backed books. I mean, I buy them when there aren't any hard covered available, but it's hard for me! Haha. And when I get hard-covered books, I always take the paper cover off of it so it doesn't get ruined.
Please tell me I'm not the only hard-cover obsessed guild member! gonk

But really. Is that weird? Does anyone else have weird preferences.

*EDIT*
I refuse to buy books that have series different from the others.. Like.. I bought Harry Potter & TSS in hardcover... and bought all of the others in hardcover too. It aggravates the mess out of me - with Louise Rennisons, Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, I have all the books in hardcover except the first and it drives me up the wall.
Also, if I know I will reread the book, then I'll buy it in hardcover. I hate creases(!) that gets left on paperback books and I hate how if you leave them laying down, they open

It really depends upon the book for me. Some I would prefer to have in hardcover, i.e. The Thirteenth Tale, but I don't really care about others because I just want to read them. I will admit that I have some beautifully bound hardcover titles in my personal library that I wouldn't trade for paperback no matter what.

I would really like to have hardcover copies of books by and about the Marquis de Sade, but I will take what I can get.

It's not weird at all- everyone bibliomaniac has their own personal taste. For my myself, I don't really mind either way. However, paperbacks do tend to get a little worn in my bag. Then again, hardcovers take up more space... sweatdrop

I prefer hard cover in that they will be a little tougher, but the paper cover can be bug-sum but I can't take it off. (I can but I don't want to.) But paper back have the advantage in that they are a little lighter. I have the first Harry Potter in paper back, but all the others are hard cover. @-@

It depends on the book for me too. Usually I like paperback because they take up less space and are lighter and I carry my books everywhere. Some series i always get in hard-cover though.

All my books in a series have to match though. Like I have all the Princess Diaries books right up 'till now and I hid them in a drawer because I needed more space in my bookshelf and they don't all match. Like the first four have a different cover from the fifth and sixth ones, then I have the sevonth one in hardcover because it was taking too long to come out in paperback.

I prefer paper backs for a purely economic reason. They are just alot cheaper so I buy them unless I cant find the book I want in paper back. If hard back was the same price or just a buck or two more then I wouldnt mind and would totaly take hardcover

I prefer hardcover books, but paperbacks are lighter so I usually borrow those from my school library if I can.

I usually prefer paper back because they're cheaper, and they take up less space. But the books I obsess over, I always get in hardback because I get them the second they come out. And I do take the cover off, but not because I don't wnat to ruin it(although that's part of it), more because it moves when I read it and it drives me INSANE!!! Oh, and I can't have them mixed paper and hard cover, that would drive me up the wall!! And right now, I have several quartets whare I have 2 and 4, or somethin else similair...I HATE IT!! But I have like 75 dollars in barnes and noble bucks, so I think I'm gonna complete my collections...

It depends on what book it is, and how much I'm willing to spend for it. If it's a book in a series that I've been waiting to come out, I'll buy it hardback, but if it's just a random book that I decided i'd like to read, i will only buy it in paperback.

It really depends. Hardcover books last longer, but they're also heavier and take up more room. Also, my rats seem more inclined to try and eat the hard covers for some reason. I generally buy paperbacks, because they're less expensive. Also, a lot of the used-book stores around here deal ONLY in paperbacks. If I've been drooling rabidly over a new book that's not paperback'd yet, then I'll get my grandmother to buy it for me.

My hardcovers get really worn. sweatdrop mostly because they're my harry potter books for the most part and those are the books I read when I just want something to read, therefore I've read them about 20 times each so they're pretty beat up.

The covers drive me insane as well. One more reason that I hate to buy hardcover.

Both version have their ups and down: hardbacks are sturdier and last a long time while paperbacks are usually lighter and less expensive.

It doesn't matter what it's in for me as long as I get to read it.

I tend to find that on occasion, some hardback books are very cheaply made, and it frustrates me, because pages will start to fall out, and i have to tape them back in. And i always take off the paper covers and put them in a box so they don't get ruined, haha. I hate it when the paper covers get wrinkled, haha. But i enjoy reading paperbacks, simply because i have small hands, and can roll the pages back to fit more comfortably while i read.

I agree with the majority of the people here I prefer Hardcover books however paperbacks go easier on the wallet. Then again I take the money break and just buy double the amount of books sweatdrop so either way. . .
