Disclaimer: I don't own the following characters: The boys of MCR. Other than that they're all mine, so back off stare (jk)

Here's a prolouge for you that I think you might like

"Mommy!" A girl screamed. "Mommyyyyyyyyyy!" A hand covered her mouth, causing her to struggle harder. She tried to scream through the hand.

"Al." A familiar male voice whispered. "Al stop struggling, it's Mark, you're safe." Allyson stopped struggling, her breath harsh and her eyes wide. "Jess is outside waiting for us." Mark stopped as a loud bang echoed from the room next to them. Mark cursed softly under his breath. "We have to get out of here, c'mon." He pulled Allyson backwards towards the back door.

"Did you get her?" A frantic Jessica asked. Her mascara was smeared all the way down her cheeks and her face was pale.

"She's here." Mark replied, helping his eleven year old sister along. Jessica let out a wail and hugged her sister.

"Thank god! I thought they'd gotten you too." She gasped.

"Who Jessica? Who had me?"

"Nobody had you Al." Mark promised her. "You're safe....almost." He muttered the last word so Allyson couldn't hear.

"What about Mommy and Daddy?" Allyson asked. "Are they okay?"

"They're fine." Jessica said quickly. "We have to go." She grabbed her sister's hand and dragged her along the street. Allyson sobbed quietly as she ran, stumbling along the broken sidewalk. Jessica tugged her up each time she stumbled, and kept her running along. After a few moments they came up on the woods nearby.

"We should be safe in there, we can hide until morning." Mark called from behind Allyson. Jessica nodded and led them in.

"We have to stick together." She whispered, pulling her sister into her. Allyson coughed, trying to catch her breath. "Mark? Where's Mark?" Jessica stuttered.

"I'm right here." Mark replied, kneeling down next to the girls. "We'll need wood for a fire."

"It's too risky." Jessica said quickly. "They might be looking for us."

"Jess, look at Allyson, she's freezing, we have to keep her warm." Mark replied. "Besides, we don't know what they want."

"Yea, we do." Jessica hissed. "I heard them. Give Ally your jacket." Mark stared at the eldest child of Lizzy and Brandon Mackintosh, then shrugged out of his jacket, draping it over the youngest girls shoulders.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"Not now." Jess sighed, still holding the child protectively.

"I want mom!" Allyson sobbed. "Are they coming?" Jessica sighed.

"I don't really know." She told the girl. "It's late, close your eyes and try to get some sleep." Allyson nodded slowly, her eyelids drooping. Jessica began to sing a lullaby quietly, until she was sure the girl was asleep.

"What did they want Jess? I saw them." Mark whispered, "Whatever they were, it wasn't human." Jessica sighed, glancing over at the curled up figure nearby.

"They asked dad where she was. They...they called her Kiesha'rii." Mark frowned. "I know, it's strange, but then they saw a picture of Ally. Her ballet picture from last year, and they asked again, this time showing dad the picture. He refused to say anything." Jessica choked back a sob. "That's when..." Mark held up a hand.

"I don't want to know anymore. All I need to know is that they're after Allyson, and they're dangerous." Jessica nodded, her eyes swimming in tears. A loud thud echoed nearby.

"What was that?" Jessica asked, her voice shrill.

"I don't know." Mark replied. "Ten bucks says it's them." He stood up and walked over, shaking Allyson gently. "We have to leave now." He whispered, pulling her up. "Let's go." He pushed her in front of him. She ran down the path, crying silently. Jessica followed close behind. The creatures weren't far either, and by the faint rustling in the trees around them, they were hoping to surround the small group of siblings. Mark pushed his younger sister to go faster as the creatures approached.

"MOMMY!" Allyson screamed as her mothers body dropped from the trees. Mark grabbed her by the waist, pulling her around, but it was too late. Allyson had already seen her mothers wide, blank eyes and her limp body hanging from a rope. Jessica let out a piercing shriek as one of the creatures grabbed her. Mark watched in horror as it gripped her hair, ripping her head clean off.

"No...." Mark whispered, holding the last of his family close. "Al, RUN!" He bellowed as another creature grabbed him. His only thought, his last thought, was getting his sister to survival. He closed his eyes as Allyson ran. The last thing he heard was her scream, and a horrible ripping noise as something pulled his heart out.

Chapter One

“MIKEY!” I screamed, bolting up and falling off the couch.

“********!” Katie screamed as I landed on top of her. “What the hell?”

”Sorry...Nightmare.” I mumbled, crawling off of her.

“The movie wasn’t that scary.” Patty grumbled, pulling herself up. “Even for you.”

“No... It wasn’t about that.” I sighed, climbing back onto the couch. “Don’t worry about it seriously guys, I’m fine.” I laid back down and closed my eyes. A few, salty tears rolled down my cheek as I slipped back into the empty abyss of sleep. My friends looked over at each other, and then shrugged.

“Mikey run!” Ray bellowed, reloading his gun. A young man with light brown hair dove for a stack of boxes as the firing started up again. These creatures were smart, and knew how to defend themselves. “Get out of here!” Ray called to his friend. . Mikey shook his head and cocked the gun. “Mikey go!” Ray bellowed frantically, knowing that Mikey could get hurt. “Call your brother!” The younger man charged from his shelter, putting the gun on automatic.

“Why call him? We can take them ourselves, and I’m not leaving without you.” He grinned, diving behind the wall Ray had used for safety.

“Don’t get too cocky.” Ray groaned, frustrated with the 19 year old next to him. “Let’s go.” He lunged at one of the creatures as the firing died away. One of them fell to the ground as Ray tackled it and he blasted its head away with a single shot.

The battle went by in a blur for the inexperienced 19 year old. His 21 year old accomplice felt differently.

“WHOO HOO!” Mikey laughed as he blasted the last of the creatures. “MAN that’s awesome!”

“The battles not over yet.” Ray reminded him. “More of those things will come. Let’s get out of here.” He turned for the door.

“Wait.” Mikey stopped his friend. “What’s that?” A small sob could be heard echoing throughout the old warehouse.

“Sounds like a girl.” Ray commented, taking small slow steps around, listening intently.

“Over here.” Mikey called, standing next to a stack of boxes. Ray hurried over. The sobbing echoed from a box about halfway up the stack. “We have to help her.” Mikey said, pulling the topmost box off of the stack.

“What if it’s a trap?” Ray asked, grabbing his friend by the wrist.

“We can handle it.” Mikey replied coolly, pulling away and dragging another box down. The third one was heavier and the sobbing stopped abruptly when he moved it.

“Mikey, this is a bad idea.” Ray said harshly as Mikey began to pry open the top of the box. “Let’s go!”

“I don’t care.” He snapped in reply. “To me, this sounds like a scared girl, I can’t just leave it at that. I’m going to help if I can.” Ray recognized the characteristic stubbornness that his friends shared.

“If you get us killed...”

“Trust me on this Ray!” Mikey cried out desperately. “I need to help her.” Ray nodded slowly. . “Help me open this.” Mikey grinned. After a few minutes of prying they managed to open the box. Curled up inside was a young girl with red blonde hair. She had pulled her scrawny knees into her chest and her head was buried in her arms.

“What the....?” Ray muttered. The girl flinched and tried to shrink further into the corner. “Mikey...”

“Shut up.” Mikey hissed at his friend. “Hey...I’m Mikey.” He said softly, kneeling next to the box. “I’m here to help you.” He reached in gently, causing the girl to let out a wail and try to pull away even more. “Shhhhhh.” He crooned. . “We’re here to help you.” He continued to talk softly until she started to relax. She finally let out a pitiful wail and fell into his arms.

“Good work dude.” Ray murmured as Mikey lifted the girl out of the box. Mikey nodded weakly, feeling sick to his stomach. What kind of creature would kidnap such a helpless girl? “Let’s get out of here.” Ray instructed. “We can take her home.” The girl buried her face deep into the crook of Mikey’s neck, coming dangerously close to hyperventilating.

“We have to figure out where her family is.” The girl shook her head and mumbled something incoherent.

“What’d she say?” Ray asked. Mikey shook his head. The poor girl had gone into hysterics and every thing she said would make little sense. Mikey held her firmly, and carried her out to the nearby van.

“What was your nightmare about?” Katie asked that morning after breakfast.

“Hm?” I asked, pouring maple syrup over my French toast.

“Last night, what horrible dream caused you to flatten me?” She asked simply, popping a bite into her mouth.

“I said I was sorry!” I sighed once again. “It was nothing, don’t worry about it.”

“I distinctly remember you screaming ‘Mikey’.” Patty informed.

“How could you remember?” I snapped. “You were asleep.”

“What are we talking about?” Michelle asked, walking in from the bathroom.

“Ally had a nightmare last night, about Mikey.” Patty replied.

“Ooooooh. Was it bad?” Michelle asked, her loose dark curls brushing her shoulders as she reached for the butter. “Is he in trouble?”

“That’s why it’s called a nightmare Michelle.” Katie replied sarcastically. “I doubt anything’s really wrong.”

“Well, some nightmares are worse than others!” Michelle retorted. “And how would you know if anything was wrong or not?”

“It was bad enough for her to fall on top of me. Wanna explain?” Katie asked playfully. I glared at her.

“You’re couch is small.” I said not wanting to talk about the nightmare.

“Not my problem. Seeing as I never sleep on it.” I wrinkled my nose.

“So, wanna fess up?” Patty asked. I sighed heavily.

“Honestly you guys, it wasn’t that bad. Nothing happens or anything.”

“Ally....” Katie glanced around to make sure her little sister wasn’t around. “We know what your brothers do. There isn’t much that can surprise us.”

“Seriously, we know that Bob almost impregnated a demon once, what worse can there be?” Michelle chimed in, causing Patty to flinch at the reminder.

“I don’t wanna talk about it.” I replied sharply. The three girls around me decided not to press further.

“What are we gonna do today?” Patty asked instead. “Are you coming over to my place or is that tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow.” I replied. “Unless someone comes home.”

“And assuming they know to call.” Patty reminded.

“They do, Mikey won't let them forget. Speaking of calling.” I sighed dropping my fork and answering my cell phone and number one source of communication. “Hello?”

“Hey Ally.” The familiar voice of Frank, one of my brother's close friends replied.

"Sup?" I asked, making eye contact with Patty.

“Mikey?” she mouthed. I shook my head.

“Not much, just calling to say Bob and I should be home in a day or two, depending on traffic.” I rolled my eyes.

“Please, we both know that if anything slows you down it’s going to be a supernatural bad guy.” Frank laughed.

“Good point.”

“Have you heard from Mikey?” I asked trying to sound casual. “Sometime recently perhaps?”

“No. I don’t think anyone has. Though Bob thinks we got a call from Ray but we’re not sure.”

“Mikey’s not with Ray.” I argued. “It’s great to hear that Ray is okay-“

“We think.”

“That’s reassuring!” I snapped irritation from lack of sleep getting in control. “Anything else you wanna say while you’re at it?”

“Breathe Ally.” Frank soothed, a little afraid. “I’ve heard from Gee. He’s hoping to come home soon as well.”

“Yea right!” I snapped into the phone. “He’s worse than all of you!” The irritation that had grown throughout the phone call hit its peak.

“Ally, calm down!” Katie demanded.

‘I mean, you say you’ll be home in a day or two and I’ll give you a week, same for Bob. Ray says a few days and I give him three weeks. Mikey always is there when he says he will be. He never lies to me! Gerard’s the worst! He PROMISES to come home and suddenly nobody hears from him in a year! He doesn’t want to come home! He’d rather be out there!” I bit back tears, knowing that the last part wasn’t true, but I couldn’t help myself.

“I promise Bob and I will be home soon.” Frank sighed. “I haven’t spoken to the others, but I’m sure they all miss it. As for Gerard, he only did that once, and he had been abducted by a demon remember? He wants to be here more than any of us. He’d love to leave all of this behind, yet, he’s more passionate about it than the rest of us. He’s never gone more than three months without contacting one of us to let someone know he’s okay. He may get sidetracked and not come home, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want too.”

“******** off.” I hissed into the phone. Frank sighed.

“We’ll see you soon Ally.” He promised just before he hung up.

“b*****d!” I hissed, flipping my phone shut and wiping my eyes.

‘You gonna be okay?” Patty asked, her eyes reflecting the sympathy all my friends felt for me.

“No.” I sighed. “They don’t know what it’s like for me. I know what’s out there. I know they kill and I know that my brothers fight them. I also know that I’m helpless. My brothers are never home long enough to teach me how to defend myself properly and I know that every time I see them it may be the final time, they never stay long enough to make it last. I’m terrified. None of them know it. Not to the extent I do.” Michelle rose from her seat and walked over to me. I scooted over slightly so we could share the chair. She sat down next to me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

“We’re here for you Ally.” She said soothingly. “We might not know as much as you do about that world, but we know enough to keep us going and we’re here for you no matter what.”

“Thanks.” I smiled weakly. “Sorry I broke down on you guys.”

“It’s okay.” Katie said softly. “So Frank thinks he’ll be home soon?”

“That’s what he says. I suppose we’ll have to go check on the house, make sure it’s still habitable.”

“But...that’ll take forever.” Michelle complained.

“Well then, I guess we’d better get started soon.” Patty sighed. “I call bathroom.” She stood up and grabbed her things.

“What if I want it?” Katie demanded. “I mean, it’s my house!”

“And you love me enough to let me have it first.” Patty retorted, shutting the door.

“I call it next.” I said, standing up.

“Bu-Wha-?” Katie stammered.

“Don’t worry; I’ll let you have it after Ally.” Michelle promised.

“Thank you!” Katie exclaimed.

Chapter Two

“I guess we’d better start with the lawn.” I noted seeing the slightly overgrown grass.

“It’s not too bad, but I’m sure Ben would mow it.” Patty offered.

“Like hell.” I snapped, not sure if I really wanted to ask Patty’s older brother for help. “I’ll mow it.”

“Do you even know how to use a lawn mower?” Katie asked.

“I’ll figure it out.” I replied. The other three girls sighed and went to cleaning the outside of the windows and picking up the litter around.

“Ally, are you sure Frank wasn’t coming home today? Or was home when he called.” Patty asked suddenly.

“He said it’d be a few days why?” I asked leaving the lawn mower stay where it was, I didn’t have a clue how to turn it on.

“Something moved across the window.” The others froze.

“What the ******** Patty!” Katie hissed.

“None of them should be home yet. This place wouldn’t look half as bad if they had.” I said trying to stay calm.

“Unless they just got home.” Michelle pointed out. I shook my head warily.

“They would have called.” I murmured.

“I saw it again.” Patty breathed.

“Let’s check it out.” I said. It was a stupid idea but, hey, I’m blonde. I’ll admit, not all blonde’s are dumb, but I sure as hell was.

I didn’t even bother to check and see if anyone followed me in, I just slowly approached the front door and turned the handle slowly, wincing as the unoiled hinges creaked. I stepped inside the entryway and headed straight for the small desk nearby. I knew that there was always a gun kept there, hidden away in a secret drawer. I didn’t take very long in finding it. I wasn’t a gun expert, but I had a basic understanding of how to use this one. The gun was there and loaded. Some dangerous s**t. I thought, but my brothers had the freedom to do whatever they wanted.

“Ally, are you sure this is a good idea?” Katie whispered.

“I wanna know what’s in here.” I hissed back, stepping into the family room.

“You were just saying how you couldn’t defend yourself!” She countered as we wandered into the next room. “That gun won’t work on half the creatures imaginable.”

“Silver bullets soaked in holy water.” I said, coming up on the kitchen. “Works for me.” My hear race sped up as I heard the faint sound of a knife being drawn. I closed my eyes and drew in a deep breath, then lunged into the room, gun pointed to the head of my opponent, they in turn held the knife to my throat. A moment of silence passed before my opponent spoke.

“What the ********?” My eyes widened and I dropped the gun. “What are you doing Ally?”

“G-Gerard!” I stammered. “W-I didn’t think you’d be home.”

“Yea, well, I am.” He slowly lowered the knife. “Around four this morning.”

“Four...”I mused, around the same time as my nightmare. “You could have called me you little ********!” I screamed, shaking off the uneasy feeling.

“I just got up you little b***h!” He replied. “I didn’t have time.”

“That’s bull.” I snapped, picking up the gun and setting it on the table. “It would have helped.”

“Well I’m sorry that my good-for-nothing-life doesn’t revolve around your perfect one!” Gerard snapped, sheathing the knife. “Heard from any of the guys lately?” He asked, relaxing.

“Just Frank, said he’d be home in a few days. Bob also thinks they got a call from Ray but isn’t sure.”

“How do you not know?” My older brother asked taking a seat at the table.

“Not a clue.” I sighed. “There’s cereal in the cobard if you want any.” A certain amount of adrenaline had crept into my system, and I knew it’d be a while before it wore off.

“No ones heard from Mikey?” I shook my head. “Damn!”

“What?” I asked instantly, my eyes wide. “He’s okay isn’t he?”

“There’s no milk.” Gerard motioned to the empty fridge. “Wouldn’t know about Mikey if nobody’s heard from him.” I backed down slightly.

“I’ll go grab some milk from my house.” Patty offered hastily. “It’s closest.”

“I’ll go with you.” Katie jumped up just as eager as Patty to get out of the awkward situation.

“I-I’ll stay here.’ Michelle said, taking a seat across from where Gerard had been. The older man was leaning against the dark blue counter, his arms crossed over his chest.

“How’s life been treating you Ally?” He asked lazily.

“Fair enough.” I replied. “They kicked me out of dance though. Somebody forgot to pay the studio bill.” Gerard held his hands up.

“I turned that responsibility over to Mikey; he’s more reliable than I am.” I sighed.

“Katie’s mom did offer to pay.”

“You said no didn’t you?” Gerard asked sternly.

“I said no. She’s not my legal guardian.”

“Good.” Gerard sighed, rubbing his eyes. “It’s been a long few months.”

“Welcome home you b*****d.” I sighed, stretching out my legs.

“Thanks.” He retorted. We fell silent for a few minutes until Patty and Katie returned with the milk. Patty set it down next to Gerard. He turned around and poured some over his cereal.

“Spoons are to the left.” I said absentmindedly. Gerard grabbed a spoon and glared at me.

“I know my own house.” He snapped, eating a spoonful.

“How am I supposed to know that? Seeing as you’re gone so much b*****d.” I sighed.

“Any of you hungry?” Gerard asked belatedly ignoring my comment. We all shook our heads. He shrugged and spooned more cereal into his mouth.

“I guess I get to move back in.” I stated dryly.

“Don’t sound so thrilled.” Gerard commented. I glared at him.

“We’ll help you get your things.” Katie offered.

“How much stuff do you take over there?” Gerard asked, confused by her offer.

“Not much.” I replied, leading my friends out of the house. We walked back to Katie’s house and gathered my things, which was basically seven outfits, some pajamas and a small selection of books and stuffed animals, which normally stayed at home unless I really wanted them. The one thing I always had with me was a picture of me and the guys. I had been hoisted up by Mikey, Ray and Gerard so I was lying on my side, supported by their arms, beaming widely at the camera. While Katie’s mom had been taking the picture, Bob and Frank had come up behind us and poured giant buckets of ice water over us. That was the exact moment she had taken the picture. Mikey, Ray and Gerard had almost dropped me as they were hit by the shocking cold water.

That was at my fourteenth birthday. Three years after I had been adopted into their dysfunctional family. Gerard had finally cleaned up his act, deciding to stay sober. That day he had really proved himself. Frank had gotten drunk and even talked Mikey and Ray into a few drinks. Gerard had refused every ounce of alcohol that came his way.

I smiled faintly, holding the picture tightly. It was the last time all of us had been together in a long time. I hadn’t seen Ray or Gerard since then. I had seen Frank and Bob for a day and Mikey had stayed for a week. Mikey was always there for my birthday, he never forgot. The others tried, but didn’t always make it. In fact, I could only remember one time all of us had been around for my birthday, and that was this time.

“Earth to Ally.” Michelle called, waving her hand in front of my face. “You ready to go?” I nodded and grabbed my bag.

“Back so soon?” Gerard asked playfully, cleaning out his bowl.

“Unfortunately.” I sighed tiredly. Gerard frowned.

“You okay kid?” He asked worriedly. He knew that I was always grateful to see one of them, and come home for a few days.

“I just need some sleep.” I replied.

“Why don’t you try to get some now?” My brother asked. “I can take care of the house before the others get here.”

“You sure?” I asked Gerard nodded. My friends shrugged as I glanced at them. I stood up and gave Gerard a tight hug. “I’ll see you guys later.” I said heading to my dark room. I left my things for later then fell into bed and instantly fell asleep.

This is pretty god. You might want to put double spaces between paragraphs, just to make it easier to read. Otherwise it's great.

Chapter Three

“Mikey? Mikey what’s going on?” I asked, my voice rising as I woke up in an unfamiliar place.

“Shhhhhh.” Mikey soothed. “They’ll hear us.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked fearfully. Mikey squeezed my hands gently and stood up.

“I’ll be right back Ally; I need you to stay very quiet, and don’t move.” I watched, terrified as he left. “I know you’re here.” He said to someone I couldn’t see.

“Do you know why we have brought you here?” A raspy voice asked.

“Something to do with my sister.” Mikey snapped. “What do you want with her?”

“Kiesha’rii must be contained.” The voice replied.

“What are you talking about?” Mikey demanded.

“Kiesha’rii must be contained.” A firmer voice bellowed. “She cannot be allowed to complete the cycle.”

“What does Ally have to do with all this?” I shivered uncontrollably.

“Kiesha’rii cannot be allowed to complete her destiny!” The second voice screamed. “She must be destroyed!” I fought back a sob, I didn’t know who or what they were talking about, but they sure didn’t like them. “Her powers are too strong!”

“I’ll keep them under control. She trusts me; I can take care of her.” Mikey said desperately.

“You must prove to us that you can keep her under control. If you cannot, then we shall contain her.” My eyes flicked around as Mikey hesitated.

“That won’t be necessary.” He finally replied coolly.

“Very well, we shall be monotoring your progress.” The voice faded away and Mikey hurried over to where I was hiding.

“Come on Ally.” He ordered, picking me up. “We have to get out of here.” I wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist.

“Who were they talking about?” I asked softly.

“Shhhhhh, don’t worry about it.” Mikey soothed, stroking my hair and carrying me away. “Just don’t worry about this.” I closed my eyes and buried my face into his shoulder.

I awoke harshly, my entire body trembling. I coughed a few times before finally waking up. Slowly, I walked out to the hallway. I found Gerard sitting in the living room, feet resting on the coffee table, a laptop in his lap.

“You okay?” He asked looking over at me.

“Yea...” I sighed. “Did you buy some water bottles or have you not been out yet?” I swallowed past the dryness in my throat.

“There’s a few in the fridge.” He replied. I nodded weakly and went to get one. My knees shook slightly as someone tapped at the door. I walked back into the living room and watched as Gerard embraced whoever it was.

“It’s good to be home.” Mikey smiled tiredly. I grinned weakly.

“Amen.” Gerard sighed. I stayed back until Mikey turned to me.

“Hey Ally.” He grinned giving me a tight hug. I slowly reacted and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging back. “Miss me?”

“Damn right.” I replied, I’d always favored Mikey, but that didn’t mean I didn’t miss the others.

“How’ve you been?” He asked.

“I’ve been okay.” I replied, pulling away and grinning up at him.

“That’s good.” I laughed softly. “God I’ve missed this place.”

“Welcome home.” I murmured, feeling the fever kick in. I shivered madly.

“Are you okay?” My brother asked, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “Because Gerard and I are always here for you.” I nodded weakly. “God you’re freezing.”

“I’m fine.” I promised falsely. “I’ll just be in my room.” I walked slowly down the hall, my legs threatening to give way before I got there. I sank into my bed slowly as I started to sweat. I closed my eyes when my body started trembling.

“Ally?” I looked up weakly. “Oh, God.” I blinked past the sweat to see Gerard leaning over me. He reached out a hand to feel my forehead. I could only imagine how I looked in his eyes. Pale, my body convulsing, drenched in sweat... When I got sick, I was good at hiding it, unless it was really bad. “I’ll be right back.” He whispered, standing up.

“What’s going on?” I heard Mikey ask.

“She’s sick.” Gerard replied. “There’s not much we can do but let her sweat it out.” I felt my eyelids droop as Mikey came in, kneeling next to the bed.

“Get some rest.” He murmured, pushing a lock of damp hair away from my face. I nodded weekly and closed my eyes.

“She’s asleep.” I heard Mikey tell someone. Whoever he was talking too said something then left.

“Do you think her fevers broken yet?” an unfamiliar voice asked.

“I’ll go check.” A second unfamiliar voice said. I pulled the blankets tight around me as my teeth chattered. I winced when the door opened and a small stream of light fell across my bed. “Hey there.” Someone smiled, kneeling next to my bed. “Sleep well?” I groaned pulling the covers over my head, not recognizing who was there.

“Make the light go away.” Frank sighed and touched my shoulder gently. I was drenched with icy sweat.

“How is she doing?” Gerard asked from the doorway. I could hear the worry and concern in his voice, and I knew it would be reflected in his hazel eyes as well.

“She’s awake, but the fever hasn’t broken.” Frank replied moving to the door. I curled up into a tight ball under the covers, shivering madly. Someone else walked in as Frank left.

“Hey.” Mikey murmured, pulling the covers away from my face. I cried out as the light hit my eyes and squeezed them shut. “You’re okay.” Mikey soothed, pushing the hair out of my eyes.

“Who are they Mikey?” I asked, my voice shaking. “They talked to me in my sleep.” My blue grey eyes looked up into my brothers hazel ones.

“You’re sick.” Mikey murmured softly, trying to mask the worry in his voice. I sensed him glance at Gerard. “It’s just a hallucination.” I wriggled around so I could sit up. It took a lot of energy out of me, but with a little help from Mikey, I was able to lean against the wall behind me. “How are you feeling?”

“Weak.” I replied hoarsely. “Tired.....dizzy.” I sighed and closed my eyes for a moment. “I’m so thirsty...” every breath was labored.
“There’s some water right here.” Mikey whispered, handing me a glass. I drank the entire contents in one gulp. “You were thirsty.” Mikey said lightly. I leaned heavily into his chest as he sat down next to me on the bed. “You’re gonna be okay Ally.” He promised wrapping an arm around my shoulders.

I awoke slowly, lying on my back, the fever gone.
“Should we take her to a hospital? If it’s as bad as you guys say it’s been.” Someone spoke up from the living room.

“You know Mikey hates it when we take her to those places. Remember that doctor who recognized her after you and Mikey first found her?” Frank spoke up. I got up and headed down the hallway slowly, my legs still weak.

“He specialized in supernatural patients.” Bob chimed in. “If we ran into him....”

“Her fever’s too high; she needs to see a doctor...if she doesn’t....”Gerard trialed off. He hated hospitals; he knew I hated them too. He would never think about taking me to one unless he thought the worst might happen.

“Don’t sound so morbid Gee.” I said weakly, standing in the opening from the hallway to the living room. The guys looked around.

“It’s alive.” Ray jested as I walked over and fell backwards onto the couch next to him. “How are you?”

“A little trembly, weak, and dying of thirst, but the fever broke.” I replied. “When’d you get here?”

“About twelve hours ago.” Gerard stood up and walked out of the room as Ray spoke. I pretended not to notice.

“How long was I out?” I asked instead.

“Three days.” Gerard replied walking back in, carrying a water bottle. I took it as he handed it to me and sat down in the chair across the room.

“It took the rest of us to convince Mikey to leave your room.” Ray sighed, stretching out his long legs. “Gerard wasn’t too happy to leave your side either.” I winced, but was internally grateful for my brothers’ concern.

“Where’s Mikey now?” I asked, swallowing several large gulps of water.

“Sleeping, finally.” Frank told me.

“Hungry?” Bob asked pushing a brown paper bag across the coffee table. “We’d hoped that you’d wake up, so we got a burger for you.” I smiled and pulled a Wendy’s burger out of the bag.

“Thanks.” I murmured taking a bite. I chewed carefully and knew the instant I swallowed that I wasn’t going to be able to stomach all of it.

“There’s a frosty in the freezer as well.” Ray informed me. “We were really hoping you’d get better.”

“Well.” I said licking some extra ketchup off of my fingers, “I’m better.” Gerard smiled, relief filling his eyes.

“Basil came by asking for you.” He said softly.

“Did she say what she wanted?” I asked biting into the burger again.
“She just wanted to know if you could hang out.” Gerard replied. I swallowed the bite and put the burger down, nausea taking over.

“I’ll call her tomorrow.” I decided, swallowing another gulp of my water. I spent the rest of the morning ‘relaxing’ like Gerard told me too. Mikey didn’t come out of his room until around one in the afternoon.

“Feeling better?” He asked, obviously relieved to see me sprawled out on the couch, flipping through channels. I nodded. “That’s good.” We lapsed into silence.

“Mikey.” I said suddenly, unable to handle the silence and finally asking the question that had been burning into my mind. “Who or what is Kiesha’rii?” I recoiled as Mikey’s head whipped around, an angry expression in his eyes.

“Why do you want to know?” He asked harshly. I hesitated, regretting ever bringing up the subject.

“I had this dream, just before I got sick. You were talking to someone, I couldn’t tell who, but you kept mentioning a Kiesha’rii...when I was sick the dream kept reoccurring.”

“It doesn’t matter.” Mikey said stiffly. “Kiesha’rii was a part of the past. You don’t need to worry.” I frowned.
“You’re not telling me something.” I hissed. “Does Kiesha’rii have anything to do with my past?” Mikey’s face hardened. We never brought up my past. Ever.
“We’re not going to talk about this anymore understand?” He said firmly. “Kiesha’rii is part of the past and is no longer a concern.”

Mikey glared my down until I lowered my head, tears prickling the backs of my eyes. I swallowed hard as he stormed out of the room. Mikey and I rarely fought, and I always felt bad when we did. I knew it was natural for siblings to fight, but that didn’t make it any easier to deal with. I also just wanted to know about my life before I met Mikey and Ray. I knew there was something before that, but they never said anything about it. I wasn't that young when it happened, about eleven, but there was nothing about it in my memory.

Hurt and angry I got up and locked the door to the bathroom. I turned on the water and stripped down as the room quickly steamed up. There was just enough time to notice a faint mark on my left shoulder, but I couldn’t see it very well.

“What the hell?” I muttered, wiping free a space on the mirror and twisting so I could almost see the mark. It was too faint to make out an exact shape. I ran my fingers gently over the area. The mirror steamed over again and I let my fingers fall. Snapping out of a daze I stepped into the shower, the water streaming over my face hiding the tears. I washed my hair and stepped out, feeling some of the final weakness from being sick wash away. I dried off, dressed and went to straightening my hair. I was just starting to apply eyeliner when someone knocked on the door.

“What?” I called.

“What’d you do?” Gerard asked
.
“I asked him a question!” I snapped heatedly.
“What was it about?” He asked.

“Just something I wanted to know!” I replied.

“Ally, he’s pissed, you obviously hit a nerve. I just want to help you guys figure this out.” I shuddered, staring at my hand, which was gripping the edge of the sink, the knuckles turning white.

“I asked about something in a dream. Kiesha’rii. He told me it was part of the past.” I opened the door and looked up at my eldest brother. “That’s all.”

“Kiesha’rii.” He pondered, curiosity showing clearly in his eyes. “He never mentioned anything to me about it.”

“I wanted to know if it was...if it was part of my past.” I whispered. Gerard sighed.

“You know he doesn’t like talking about that Ally. None of us know all that much about you before Mikey and Ray brought you home. About Kiesha’rii...”

“Don’t ask him about it please.” I begged. “I don’t need him mad at you too.”

“I won’t ask.” Gerard promised. “I just wanted to know what was up.” I nodded weakly.

“Thanks.” I shut the door as he walked away and continued to fix my make up.

Chapter Four

“You’re leaving?” I pouted across the table, a few days after the fight between me and Mikey.

“We got a call from somebody in the Midwest; they think their daughters been possessed.” Ray explained shaking his mop of curls out of his eyes.

“Mikey might enjoy this one.” Frank commented, oblivious to the tension that bristled around me or Mikey when the others name was mentioned. I ducked my head to hide the sadness from Ray, who was much more aware than Frank. But there was no hiding it from him.

“I don’t need him to go along. He might want to stay a little longer.” Ray jumped in as Frank moved towards the door.

“I’ll go ask him anyway, just to be sure.” Frank replied, confused. I hated it when Mikey left, and to be honest, I hated it when any of them left. Frank was usually too oblivious to catch on.

“Ally, come here for a minute.” Gerard called. I stood up and walked into his room. He always had the lights off and the curtains tightly drawn. The walls were unpainted but were scattered with various posters and drawings, piles of dirty clothes littered the plush carpet. Gerard’s face was illuminated by the computer screen. He turned around to face me as I weaved my way around the mess. “I found something you might be interested in.” I leaned over the back of the chair to look.

“Kiesha’rii.” I murmured. “You googled it?” Gerard nodded, his shoulder length black hair brushing his shoulders slightly. I leaned in closer as he turned back around to face the computer.

“You got me curious when you mentioned it a day or two ago. I found some really good sites.” I rested my chin on his shoulder and read out loud.

“Kiesha’rii is an upper level demon known by two names, Kiesha’rii, and the Child of Blood. She has been rumored to be the sister of Satan, or Satan's youngest and most favored daughter.

“She is born into the body of a young girl, usually marked with divine beauty. She will live life as a normal girl until the earthy body dies, from then, she is reborn, until it is time for her to come to power. Each child born with the spirit of Kiesha’rii is marked by a characteristic scar burned into their flesh at birth.

“Kiesha’rii is often referred to as the Aphrodite of Hades; she is a lover of followers, called riems. Riems are miniature imitations of Lucifer with wings.” I glanced at a drawing and winced. They were ugly little things. “Kiesha’rii is lustful and yearns to find a mate.

“It is rumored that every 600 years Kiesha’rii forces her way to the surface of the child’s soul and takes over, her dormant powers rising. If she does not take a mate in the next 365 days, a mate who is willing to follow her into the depths of Hades she will repeat the cycle.” I finished reading, a feeling of dread settling into my stomach. “Is there any way to find the mark?” I asked, my throat going dry.

“Probably why?” My older brother asked, hearing the slight note of fear in my voice.

“I-It’s nothing.” I said instantly, not wanting to worry Gerard. He turned in his chair to look at me.

“What’s up?” He said calmly. I sighed. There was no fooling him.

“Two days ago, after the fight with Mikey, I noticed something on my left shoulder. It’s really faint, but there’s something.” Gerard’s frown increased.

“I’ll be right back. Stay here.” He commanded, standing up. I silently followed him out of the room and stopped outside the kitchen hiding behind the wall. “Mikey, I need to talk to you.” Gerard said softly. I listened as a set of chair legs scraped across the linoleum floor. “What do you know about Kiesha’rii?” I swallowed hard, envisioning the death glare Mikey was giving Gerard.

“Ally’s been talking to you.” He hissed, the venom dripping in his every word.

“I asked what was going on. You know Ally, she wanted it to stop, so she told me in hopes that I could help. I decided to do a little research.” Mikey sighed.

“Kiesha’rii is a demon most commonly known as the daughter of the devil, his most favored. The demons that Ray and I saved Ally from, thought she was Kiesha’rii, so did some people who I can only assume were supernatural high level people.” A weird emotion had wormed its way into Mikey’s voice. Something I had never heard before.

“Do you think she is?” Gerard asked.

“Ally couldn’t hurt a fly.” Mikey replied quickly. A little too quickly. “There’s no way she could be.” Gerard hesitated, and then let out a long sigh.

“Be careful Mikey.” He cautioned. “She’s scared; I showered her the internet pages on Kiesha’rii.” I swallowed back tears and slipped silently back to my room. I didn’t want to know what the mark on my shoulder meant. I didn’t want to know if Kiesha’rii had anything to do with it. I sat down on my bed and stared at the picture. A sudden tap came at my door. Loud and crisp, and the same pattern Mikey used every time. Three short taps, a quick pause, and then three more.

“It’s locked.” I called without looking away from the picture.

“Well, will you open it for me?” He asked. I didn’t move. “Ally.” Mikey sighed; I stood up and unlocked the door, turning away as my arm fell.

“What?” I snapped my back to the now open door.

“You think you’re subtle Ally.” Mikey sighed. “Gerard and I knew you were listening. Once you left, he told me. About the scar on your back.” I stiffened.

“Two days ago.” I sighed, lowering my eyes to the cluttered, plush carpet floor.

“That’s what Gerard was telling me. I doubt it’s the same as what Kiesha’rii has.” I sighed.

“Whatever.” I sat down on the bed, my knees moving slower than usual. “Are you going with Ray?” I asked weakly, trying to keep the conversation light.

“I might.” Mikey replied, taking a seat next to me. “I’d rather stay here.” I sighed, turning my head away from him and plucking at the deep purple bedspread. “If it makes you feel any better. Frank’s hoping to stick around.”

“Hoping?” I asked looking up. “You know that he won’t.” Mikey laughed.

“Good point.” We fell into silence, then. “Do you wanna do something?”

“Like what?” I asked.

“Well, we could go see a movie, or, I’ve heard the local skating rink is open again.” My eyes lit up.

“Skating?” I asked, a weird tone filling my voice. “I-I like skating.”

“Ready in ten?” My brother asked big grin lighting up his features.

“Easy.” I said, jumping up and walking into my closet, quickly finding some warm sweats and a hoodie. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and walked out of my dark room.

“Going somewhere?” Bob asked, looking up from the paper he was reading.

“Mikey’s taking me skating.” I said cheerfully, ignoring the everything’s okay now look in Bobs eyes. The guys all knew that Mikey would die to protect me, and that I hated it when he left. A fight between us always brought tension to the people who noticed it and a ton of relief when the fight was settled. I sat down across from Bob and bit into an apple.

“Have fun dude.” Bob laughed as Mikey walked in.

“I’m taking the van.” Mikey replied, ignoring the other guy’s teasing. I took another bite out of the apple and followed him out. “Sorry about the dance mix up.” He apologized as we climbed into the giant van the guys owned. “I kind of ran out of money.” I raised an eyebrow at him.

“I see.” I buckled up and tossed the apple core out the window.

“I’ll see if I can get you back in.”

“Thanks.” I muttered twisting my long ponytail between my fingers as Mikey started the car. We remained silent as Mikey pulled out of the neighborhood and through the streets of the small town I’d grown up in. We hit a red light about halfway to the rink and stopped.

“Ally.” Mikey said suddenly. “I’m really sorry I’m not around much. I’m really sad that none of us are.” I blinked, turning my attention from the small group of kids playing ‘ring around the rosie’ to my brother.

“What’s up?” Mikey was sensitive, that was given, but he never acted quite like he was now.

“Just saying.” He shrugged, pressing down on the gas pedal as the light turned green. “I feel bad that none of us are there for you.”

“You don’t need to be.” I replied instantly. “I know that what you do is important to you guys. Besides, I have my friends, as a teenage girl, that’s satisfactory.”

“They don’t replace family though.” Mikey sighed. I frowned.

“No, but I understand how important it is for you guys to go after the things that you do. Chill out. It’s okay with me. Honest.”

“I’m still getting you back into dance. I feel bad that I couldn’t pay.”

“I’d appreciate it.” I loved to dance; it’d been my passion since I was little. I didn’t remember the exact age I had been when I started, but it really didn’t matter. It was really the only thing I remembered about myself from before Mikey and Ray brought me here.

“Size six.” I said to the person handing out skates at the local rink. I hadn’t been figure skating in a long time, and I was glad Mikey was taking me. I taught myself all the jumps and spins they could do when I was younger. I took the skates and hurried to get them on. The songs they were playing were really good and I couldn’t wait. Mikey was much slower than I was and I had already done two laps before he could get his skates on.

“Come on twinkle toes.” I jested, standing next to him.

“I’ll take my sweet damn time.” Mikey teased back, finally standing up and coming out onto the ice. He wasn’t a bad skater, he was actually pretty good at keeping his balance, but he just didn’t enjoy it as much as me.

I skated out to the middle of the rink as Mikey started lapping. It wasn’t long before the music and the rhythm of my skates on the ice took over my mind and body.

“You’ve got some talent.” Someone behind me said. I came out of the spin I’d been doing and looked around.

“Thanks.”

“I don’t think I’ve seen you at any competitions.” The woman said, flicking her short brunette hair out of her copper colored eyes. She was a petite woman around her mid thirties. “I’m Regina McClain.”

“Ally.” I replied, “I don’t really compete. I don’t skate often actually...I just....taught myself...” I realized a little too late that the last few words sounded like I was bragging. I hated bragging, but I always did it.

“Really?” The woman asked, raising one of her perfectly waxed eyebrows. I nodded. “You should get yourself into some lessons.” I thought about it.

“I’ll ask my brother about it.” I said, skating over to where Mikey was once again sitting down. “What’s this?” I said jokingly. “You’re not allowed to sit out.” Mikey laughed.

“Too bad, I am. Who’s this?” He asked, nodding to the woman next to me.

“Regina McClain.” She introduced herself. “I’m a skating coach here, and I think your sister would benefit greatly from lessons.”

“How much would it cost?” Mikey asked, frowning slightly.

“About $60 dollars for a session which is about six weeks, per level.”

“How many levels?”

“Eight.”

“We could try it...” Mikey said slowly, as if debating if he really wanted too. My face fell.

“What’s the catch?”

“I’m not sure we could afford both Dance and Skating. You’ll have to choose.” I gapped at my older brother.

“What?” I cried. I wasn’t going to give up dance, there was no way, but I really wanted to try skating.

“Ally....we can’t afford both. Dance is pricey...” He trailed off, holding something back, and then I caught on.

“I’ll do skating.” I said. “It’s cheaper.”

“We can do dance if you’d rather. We just can’t afford both, don’t give up dance just because it’s costing us.” Mikey said quickly, sensing my plan.

“I wanna try skating; it’ll be like an adventure, new and exhilarating.” I forced a smile and left the two adults to discuss details.

It was raining by the time Mikey and I left a few hours later. I had so far managed not to cry. Making decisions was always difficult for me, especially when it included things I loved to do, such as dance. I hated to give up the sport I had the most passion for, but I didn’t want to cost the guys any more money than needed.

“You okay Ally?” Mikey asked when we reached the van. I nodded and stared out the window at the streets of Newark.

Chapter Five

“She’s giving up dance?” Frank asked from the living room. “Why?”

“Someone at the ice arena offered her lessons there.” Mikey sighed. “I-I told her she had to choose.”

“She knows.” Ray sighed heavily after a moments pause.

“I told her we couldn’t afford both.” Mikey replied. “She chose skating.”

“Great.” Ray sighed. “Just great.”

“She doesn’t know how bad it is.” Mikey said defensively. I swallowed hard and stepped into the room.

“Anyone seen my cell phone?” I asked nonchalantly.

“It’s on the desk in the entryway.” Mikey replied, glancing over at me. I could feel the eyes of the three men in the room as I walked out. Ray would figure out that I’d overheard, and it’d only be a matter of time before Mikey and Frank realized it too.

“Thanks.” I turned it on and checked for messages, bumping into Gerard in the hallway. “Are you leaving?” I asked, noticing the multiple hidden weapons.

“Hopefully I’m not going very far.” Gerard replied absentmindedly. I frowned. He caught the expression and smiled. “I’ll be back soon, I promise.” He ruffled my hair and walked past me.

“Yea right.” I said under my breath. Louder I said. “Have fun demon killing maniac.” Unless Bob stayed, it seemed like Frank would be the only one to hang around for a while. Gerard turned back around and gave me a bear hug.

“Love you too.” He laughed, pulling back and walking into the kitchen. “I’m out.” He said, grabbing a set of keys.

“That ones almost out of gas.” Ray warned.

“I’ll fill it; I’m not going that far.” I slowly closed the door to my room as Gerard said his goodbyes and left. I knew it would be a long time before he returned, but I didn’t feel like saying a lengthy goodbye. It had almost been a whole week that all of us were in the house, a record. I thought dully.

“Ally let’s go!” Mikey called loudly, knocking on my door.

“Five more minutes.” I groaned. It had been a week since Gerard left, and Ray had gone off to the Midwest on a job.

“You don’t wanna be late on your first day do you?” Mikey called, I sat up tiredly.

“It’s so early!” I sighed, pulling on some clothes from the numerous piles on the ground.

“You’re the one that wanted to do this.” I glared at the door, knowing that my brother was right. I pulled my hair pack into a tight ponytail and opened the door.

“I’m surprised you’re up.” I grumbled. “You always stay up longer than most people I know.”

“Coffee.” Mikey replied, holding up a mug. I laughed.

“Let’s go.” I lead him into the kitchen where he ditched his coffee and wrote a note to the others explaining where we were going.

I sped through the first five levels, learning a few things that I didn’t know already. It wasn’t long before Regina was helping me get ready for a competition. The practices were private.

“Where are you guys off too?” I heard Mikey ask as I got ready.

“West coast.” Bob replied. I sighed. I didn’t need the added worry of two more of the only family I really had getting hurt. Not now, not before I started preparing for my first competition.

“I’m ready.” I said quietly, stepping out into the hallway.

“Have fun squirt.” Frank sneered, pulling me into a hug.

“You manwhore.” I sighed, trying to sound as joking as he was.

“Hey, we’ll be back soon.” Bob promised, hugging me tightly.

“Liar.” I hissed softly, so no one could hear. “Don’t get yourselves killed.” I said, like I did every time one of them left.

“We’ll try.” Frank promised. “I’m driving.” I laughed as he snatched the keys from Bob and ran out the door.

Mikey dropped me off at my practice and left after shouting a quick goodbye. I hurried in and quickly found Regina.

“No Mikey?” She commented. I shook my head, lacing up the borrowed skates.

“He said he had a few errands to run.” I stood up. The two hour class went by a lot faster than I though it would, but, after it had been over for 15 minutes, Mikey still hadn’t come.

“Do you need to call him?” Regina asked after another five minutes went by. I dug around my bag for my phone.

“Sorry we’re late.” Patty said, walking in. I blinked at her. “Mom had to run a few errands.” I blinked again, confused. My eyes widened suddenly and my cheeks flushed.

“No!” I gasped. “That little ********!”

“What?” Patty asked instantly, caught off guard.

“He left!” I screamed. “He didn’t tell me! He’s so stupid!” Patty frowned.

“Ally, Mikey didn’t leave.” I glared at her. “I’m serious, he ran out of gas.” I relaxed. “Bob and Frank left him with the car that had almost no gas in it. Thanks to Gerard.”

“Good.” I sighed, relaxing and throwing my bag over my shoulder, as if nothing had happened. “Later Regina.” I waved at my coach and climbed into the back of Patty’s car.

“So you’re a skater now?” Patty’s mom asked. I nodded. “I don’t know if Patty told you, but I was halfway to the dance studio before I remembered.” I laughed.

“That’s awesome.”

“Sure it is.” Patty sighed. “I’m really sorry I freaked you out.”

“What’s that?” Patty’s mom asked, looking back at us.

“I thought Mikey left when Patty walked in.” I replied.

“She freaked.” Patty smiled. “I’m really sorry.” I wrinkled my nose at her.

“Hey.” Mikey called when I got home. “Sorry I couldn’t pick you up myself.”

“Please warn me next time.” I begged, hugging him tightly. “I thought you left.” I couldn’t hold it back, suddenly, all the fear that I felt for Mikey, Gerard, and their friends spilled out, and I broke down.

“Hey, hey, hey.” Mikey whispered, stroking my hair. “Shhhhhhh. You’re okay.’ I buried my face in his chest, my tears quickly soaking his shirt.

“You d-d-d-d-d-don’t kn-know h-how h-h-hard i-i-it i-is f-for m-me.” I sobbed. “I-I-I-I-I h-h-hate s-s-s-seeing y-you leave.” Mikey walked slowly over to the couch, sitting down, with my arms still wrapped around his neck.

“I’m not leaving yet.” Mikey promised, rubbing my back soothingly.

“B-b-b-b-b-but y-y-y-you w-will.” I shuddered. “W-w-wh-what i-if th-this t-time y-y-you d-d-don’t c-c-c-come b-back?”

“Nothings going to happen to me Ally.” Mikey murmured.

“W-w-what a-about th-the oth-others?” I whimpered, a fresh wave of tears taking over. “G-G-Gerard o-or Bob o-or F-F-Frank. Wh-what i-if s-s-s-something h-h-happens to th-them o-or R-Ray?”

“Shhhhhh.” Mikey whispered. “Their going to be okay, I promise.”

“D-d-d-don’t.” I sobbed. “D-don’t p-p-promise th-that. N-not wh-when y-you d-don’t m-mean i-it.” Mikey sighed.

“We can call them if you want to talk to them.” He said softly.

“N-no.” I gulped, pulling away. “Th-they don’t n-need to s-see me like this.” I dried my eyes and drew in a deep breath. “I’ll be okay.” Mikey nodded slowly, watching me carefully. I knew there’d be a phone call to Gerard later.

“You sure?” I nodded. “All right.” He stood up as the phone rang. I rose shakily and locked myself in my room, powering up my computer. I checked my email, responding to the ones from Patty, Michelle and Katie. The rest was just spam.

“Meltdown.” I heard Mikey confirm. “It was bad.” I woke up slowly, to the sound of Mikey talking to Gerard on the phone. “She said something about us not knowing what it was like for her to watch us leave.” I sat up, realizing I had cried myself to sleep.

“******** emo.” I mumbled to myself, heading to the shower.

“She’s awake.” Mikey said suddenly. “Do you want to talk to her?” I locked the door and turned on the shower. “I have to take the call.” Mikey whispered, thinking I couldn’t over hear, even though our house echoed like mad. “It can’t wait.” I choked back a sob. How could he even think of taking a call after my last breakdown?

“Ally?” Mikey stood up when I left the bathroom. I ignored him and stormed to my room, dragging out the suitcase that stayed in my closet. “What are you doing?” I continued to ignore my brother as I began backing some clothes. “Ally.”

“Go.” I said hoarsely. “just go.”

“Al.” Mikey sighed.

“GO!” I shrieked, spinning around to glare at him. “YOUR ******** CALL CAN’T WAIT! IT MUST BE REALLY DANGEROUS, THE KIND OF CALLS YOU LOVE TO TAKE! GO!” My breath came in harsh sobs as I glared him down. Mikey was hurt by my outburst; he didn’t try to hide it.

“Ally...” He whispered, taking a step forward to comfort me. I pulled away.

“GO!” I screamed. “GET OUT OF HERE! TO DO WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO! I DON’T FUKING CARE! LEAVE!” I turned away from him and continued packing, my tears splashing onto everything I touched. Mikey stood there for a moment more, then left. I finished packing, and then collapsed onto the floor, sobbing quietly. My phone rang suddenly, snapping me out of my daze. “H-hello?” I stammered.

“What’s wrong?” Katie asked immediately.

“Patty picked me up from skating yesterday.”

“Yea, she told me about that. You freaked out.”

“You have no idea.” I whispered through the tears. “I had a complete breakdown.”

“Oh God.”

“A really bad one.” I glanced over at the suitcase on my bed. “He got a call, and he told Gerard it’s really important.”

“Is he leavening?” The concern was thick in Katie’s voice. I hesitated.

“I-I don’t know.” I breathed.

“Ally, you have to go talk to him.”

“I can’t.” I whispered. “Katie, you don’t understand. I-I told him to go...I screamed it at him.”

“You told him to leave?” Katie asked confused. “But”

“I was mad!” I sobbed. “I told him that I didn’t care that the call was dangerous, something he’d really enjoy.”

“Talk to him. I’m sure he hasn’t left yet.” Katie said calmly. “Call me back once you do.” I nodded and hung up. My legs trembled as I set my phone down and stoop up. I found Mikey in the kitchen going through the mail, but not really seeing it. His eyes were red and I knew instantly that what I had said really stung.

We stayed silent as I sat down across from him, avoiding his eye.

“I-I don’t want you to go.” I finally stammered, breaking the silence. “I-I just.”

‘I know.” Mikey said curtly. “We’re both tired.” I smirked weakly.

“Suuure.” I laughed. “Because I’m never tired.” Mikey laughed. “I really don’t want you to go.”

‘I’m not.” I looked up confused.

“You’re the only one not on a job.”

“We’ll split up Bob and Frank. I’m sure one of them will take it. Besides, someone’s gotta stay here and make sure you can take care of yourself.” I blinked. The idea thrilled me. Although, at the same time, it scared me. The thought that I actually needed to know how to protect myself was frightening. The added information on Kiesha’rii and Mikey’s reaction to it was bothersome as well.

“Really?” I asked my eyes wide.

“Gerard told me about you pointing a gun to his head. Do you even know how to use one?” I shook my head. “You could have killed yourself, or one of your friends. Might I add, that going into a house where you know there’s something in there, but you don’t know what, that’s dangerous.” I flushed.

“Katie’s parents heard me telling my friends how defenseless I feel didn’t they?” Mikey nodded.

“Her dad spoke to me about it.” He replied. “I’ll teach you what I can. I’m sure the others will too.”

“Don’t they know exactly what you do?” I asked, being used to them having the same knowledge on demons they fought. Mikey shook his head.

“We know the same basic stuff, but we’re all experts on different things.” He replied. I nodded.

“We’ll have to work around skating.’ I commented. Mikey agreed.

“We can start right now if you want.” I shook my head.

“I have to call Katie first.” I said. “Let her know what’s going on.” I grabbed the phone and dialed.

Chapter six

Hello?” Katie’s dad was the one to answer the phone.

“May I please speak to Katie?”

“Sure, hold on. KATIE PHONE!” He called; I waited as the phone was passed over.

“Is she in tears?” I heard my friend whisper, trying to cover the phone. “Okay good.” She sighed after a short silence. “Hey.”

“Hey.” I sighed.

“I take it everything went okay.”

“I’m not in tears am I?” I sneered.

“You heard that?” She cried. “Damn!” I laughed.

“Everything’s cool. He’s not leaving for a while. He’s promised me we’ll hang out.”

“Sweet.” Katie grinned. “Must make you happy.”

“It has. I’m just still really sad that every body else had to leave.” I sighed. “God it’s been an emotional few days.” Katie laughed suddenly.

“What?” I asked, grinning, yet confused.

“You’re packed aren’t you?” She asked. I blushed.

“Maaaayyyybe.” I said slowly, causing the girl on the other end to laugh harder.

“You’re funny.” She sighed.

“That’s why everyone else is laughing.” I said playfully.

“I’m really glad everything’s okay between you two.” Katie murmured.

“So am I.” I replied softly. Glancing around as Mikey passed behind me, making his way to the basement that the guys had fitted to be a weapon range. I nodded to him slowly as he caught my eye. “I have to go. Mikey wants me to do something...”

“What does he want you to do?” Katie asked, natural curiosity getting the better of her.

“No idea.” I replied. “Hey, it’s Mikey. I’ll talk to you later.” I hung up and hurried down into the basement.

“Put these on.” Mikey instructed, handing me a pair of headphones. He too wore a pair. I slid them on then took the small handgun Mikey held out for me. “Stand in front of me.” I took the place right in front of my brother, who pointed me towards the target. “Ready for this?” I nodded and Mikey showed me how to position my arms. “Keep your eye on the target.” He informed me. “Are you ready?” I nodded curtly. “Pull the trigger.” I fired the gun and watched the bullet shoot for the target, and miss by several inches. Mikey gave me tips on how to improve my aim and helped me fire a few good shots.

“You’re all on your own now, kid.” He said taking a few steps back. “Show me what you can do.” I swallowed hard and squeezed the trigger. “Pretty good.” Mikey commented when the bullet landed only a few centimeters away from the heart of the target. “Ready to try something bigger? Or do you want to keep working on this?”

“Something bigger.” I shrugged, handing the smaller gun back. He pulled out a shotgun and helped me position it.

“This one will kickback, so we’ll only fire a few shots for today.” Mikey told me.

“Kickback?” I asked my voice trembling slightly. “I don’t like the sound of that.”

“It just means the force from the shot. Be sure to keep your balance. I’ll help you.” My brother said calmly, stepping into place behind me. I took the stance he showed me, and felt him wrap his arms around mine so he could help me fire the gun. “Ready? Go.” I pulled the trigger and stumbled back slightly. Mikey braced himself to keep us both from falling over. “Wanna try anymore?” I shook my head, rubbing my shoulder gently. “Okay.” Mikey lead me over to a table where a gun was lying and taught me all the different parts of a gun and what they were for, and how to load a gun.

“Anything else for today?” I asked, knowing it had to be only midmorning.

“I think we should start on knives.” Mikey replied, my head shot up from the gun I’d been examining. “It wouldn’t hurt you to know how to use them.” I shuddered, my eyes wide and fearful. “If you knew how to use them would you really be so afraid?” I shook my head frantically.

“I hate knives.” Mikey ignored me and opened a cabinet on the wall behind him, looking over the selection of knives. “Mikey please.” I whimpered as he chose two. “Mikey....” I begged as he held one out to me.

“Take it Ally.” He demanded. “Ally.” I shook my head and backed away as the knife caught the light from the ceiling.

“DON’T!” I screamed as Mikey stepped forward and pressed the knife to my throat in one swift movement. There was a stern look in his eyes that scared me as much as the feel of the cold steel against my skin. I stayed perfectly still, wide blue eyes staring frantically into the hard, cold, hazel ones glaring down at me.

“Are you going to take it?” Mikey asked coolly. I didn’t move, I knew Mikey wouldn’t hurt me, but that didn’t stop me from being paralyzed with fear. “Hunting will change you Ally.” My brother said. “You have to think quickly, to defend, to attack. You kill things that appear to be human, but never could be again. You can’t afford to let the fear take over. You have to learn to use it.” He removed the knife from my throat and held it out to me. I took it slowly, my hands shaking.

“I’m going to show you how to throw.” Mikey said, the firmness disappearing from his voice. He took the stance and hurled the knife across the room, where it lodged itself into the heart of the target. “Ready to try it?” I started to shake my head, but remembered what he had said a few moments before. He raised an eyebrow, some of the firmness returning.

“I’m ready.” I forced myself to step forward and take the stance. I practiced throwing knives for hours before I started to get it right. Once I could throw it accurately, Mikey pulled out some wooden swords. He showed me to use them and we spent the rest of the day dueling.

“That’s enough for today.” Mikey said after one long duel where I’d nearly beaten him. “I’ll order us some pizza.” I dropped the weapon and forced my body up the stairs, where I collapsed onto the couch. “You’re picking up this stuff really fast.” Mikey commented. “You’ll do great.”

“That statement you made, about how being a hunter would change me....?” I asked weakly.

“You don’t have to be one if you don’t want too.” My brother replied quickly. “It was just a statement to get you to use a knife.” I nodded. “We all agree that you need to learn how to use these things though.” I jumped as my phone beeped, telling me Patty had called.

“I’m going to call Patty.” I said after listening to her message, telling me to call her cell phone. Mikey nodded and headed into the kitchen.

“Hello?” Patty answered after a few rings.

“Hey, sorry I didn’t call back sooner.” I said, stretching out my legs.

“I figured you’d be hanging out with Mikey, since he’s the only one bothering to stick around for a while.” I laughed, then heard Michelle say something in the background.

“Say hi to Micha for me.” I said.

“Michelle, Ally says hi.” Patty passed on the message.

“What?” A third voice cried. “She says he to Michelle but not me? I’m so hurt.”

“She loves me more than you.” Michelle teased.

“Who all is there?” I asked, knowing that the phone would be passed around eventually.

“Michelle, Nicki and Katie.”

“Are you having a party without me?” I cried, pretending to be upset.

“We figured you’d rather hang out with Mikey, especially since you hardly ever see him.”

“Yea but...” I paused as Katie grabbed the phone.

“I wanna talk to her!” she exclaimed.

“I’m not done talking to her!” Patty argued.

“Too bad.” Katie said, gaining control of the phone. “So, what’d Mikey want you to do?” She asked.

“Um....he wanted me to go downstairs.” I replied, she knew what that meant.

“Why’d he want you down there?”

“Who wanted her where?” Michelle asked.

“Mikey wanted Ally down in the basement.” Katie replied.

“But why?” Patty asked. Katie passed the phone over to Michelle.

“Why’d Mikey want you in the basement?” She asked.

“So I could learn how to defend myself.” I replied, knowing her reaction would be better than the others.

“Really? Interesting....”

“What’s interesting?” Nicki asked immediately.

“Is there any way to get me on speakerphone?” I asked once Nicki had the phone.

“Nope, sorry. So, what’s interesting?”

“I’m learning how to defend myself.” I repeated.

‘Oh god...” Nicki passed on the phone.

“Why’s Nicki scared?” Katie asked. I sighed heavily.

“Mikey’s teaching me how to defend myself. Like, use weapons.” I said once again. Katie paused.

“Oh. Dear. God.” She said slowly. “You’re serious?”

“Yes. I can use a gun.”

“NO!” Katie screamed. “Is he crazy?” I heard Katie start to freak out slightly as Patty took control of the phone.

“What am I missing?” She asked. I sighed.

“Mikey is teaching me how to defend myself.” I replied, waiting for her reply.

“What’d he teach you to use?” She asked, trying to be calm.

“Guns.” I said, knowing that’d be all I’d need to say.

“Stop.” Patty said quickly. “You already know too much.” I laughed.

“The guys are just trying to help. They all agreed that I should know these things.”

“You with a gun Ally, think about it.” I decided to play along.

“Dangerous isn’t it?” I smirked.

“Extremely, I mean, what if you get mad at one of us and you have a gun with you?” I heard the people in the background go silent.

“I’d so kill you, because I’m just that violent.”

“You are.” Patty replied. “Always threatening me.”

“You know I love to torture you.” I grinned. Mikey stopped on his way to the bathroom and looked back at me. I laughed. “It’s a joke.” He nodded slowly then disappeared down the hallway, shaking his head. “So, what’s up?”

“We were going to invite you to come watch a few movies with us, but I guess you were tied up.”

“I feel so loved.” I jested.

“You’re crazy.” Nicki replied. “Learning how to use a gun so you can kill us all.”

“I’m not crazy.” I rolled my eyes at Mikey who walked back in.

“You’ve always been crazy.” He laughed. I gaped at him.

“No! You’re not part of this conversation.” Mikey laughed and answered the door, paying for the pizza.

“He’s got a good point.” I wrinkled my nose.

“Very funny Nicki. I have to go, pizza’s here. Say hi to everyone for me.” I flipped my phone shut and sat up.

“So, how’s the pack?” Mikey asked, carrying the pizza over to the coffee table. I shrugged, grabbing a slice.

“Their partying their little selves to death without me. I feel so left out.”
“You know I wouldn’t have let you go. Not since we’ve been training.” I nodded, devouring the slice. It’d been early morning when I’d eaten, and I hadn’t had anything since. “Drink.” I looked down at the water bottle Mikey handed me and took a small sip. It was then that I realized how thirsty I had gotten. I gulped the entire bottle down in one breath. “There’s more in the fridge if you want it.” I set my second slice down and dug around for some more water. “We’re going to work with guns again tomorrow.” I sighed, falling back onto the couch.

“Knives?” I asked apprehensively.

“We’ll see, you did pretty well today.” I finished the pizza quickly. “I’m sorry I scared you, but like I said, it’s best to turn your fear into power.”

“Was it really necessary to hold the knife to my throat?” I shuddered, rubbing my neck gently.

“It worked didn’t it?” He grinned.

“I suppose.” I sighed.

Chapter seven

Your legs are getting stronger.” Regina commented as I leapt high into the air. “What have you been doing?”

“Umm...Mikey’s been teaching me physical combat.” I replied. “Something for him to do until he has to leave again.” I had long since explained to Regina that my brothers’ jobs required them to travel, she just didn’t know what the jobs were.

“Makes sense.” Regina sighed. “Don’t overwork yourself.”

“I won’t.” I replied. “Mikey is really good at pacing things right.” I had mastered guns over the last few days and we were already moving onto blunt swords and I wasn’t as afraid of them as I used to be.

“Let’s go over the program again.” I skated to the center of the ice and took position. Regina started the music and I counted out the bars. The opening notes seemed to take forever to come, but the entire song was over too soon.

“Wow.” someone laughed from the doorway, their claps echoing throughout the arena. “Very impressive.” I fell out of the finishing pose and looked around.

“GERARD!” I screamed, seeing my older brother leaning casually against the wall. I flew off of the ice and crashed into him.

“Easy.” He gasped, clutching his ribs. I pulled back.

“What happened?” I asked worriedly. Gerard straightened up, a big grin on his face.

“It’s nothing, just part of the job.” He assured me. “It’ll heal quickly.”

“You’re here....” I murmured. “I mean.....you only......”

“Just the one job.” My oldest brother laughed. “You should be proud of me.”

“I am.” I whispered, hugging him, this time avoiding his injured ribs. “It’s really good to see you.” Regina cleared her throat behind us.

“I’m sure you’re glad to see your brother Ally, but we need to get to work.”

“All work and no play makes Regina McClain a bitchy woman.” I hissed under my breath. Gerard snickered.

“I’ll be at the house.” He laughed as I hurried back out to the center of the rink. “See ya then.” I waved as he left and got back to work.

“Don’t forget, the competition is here, be at the arena by 5:15, they’ll start at 5:45.” I nodded and unlaced my skates.

“Did Gerard stop by to see you?” Mikey asked as I jumped into the van.

“That he did.” I replied. “Any idea what happened to him?” Mikey laughed.

“With all the bruises I’ve given you, you should know, I’ve been going easy on you. A few broken ribs are just part of the trade. Don’t sweat it.”

“All right....” I sighed. “I have to be at the arena by 5:15 tomorrow.”

“Already? Man, that competition came up fast. Are you ready for it?” I nodded

“More than ready.” The last three days, Regina had been working my a** off. “I’ll get a break after this.” I wasn’t going to admit it, but I’d rather be dancing.

“You’re still enjoying skating aren’t you?” Mikey asked as we drove past the dance studio.

“Yea it’s great.” I fibbed, looking out at the place that had been my home away from home. Mikey sighed.

“Don’t lie Ally.” I looked over at him.

“Why would I be lying?” I asked, blinking several times.

“Just tell us if you don’t want to skate. We’ll get you back into dance.”

“I wanna skate, honest.” I lied. “It’s just as fun as dance.”

Mikey looked at me for a moment, then returned his attention tot he road.

“You know.” He said sullenly.

“About your issue with money?” I replied. “Yea, I heard you, Ray and Frank talking about it.”

“We can put you through dance.” Mikey informed me.

“No you can’t. I’m not going to cost you guys anymore money than necessary. I’ll get through the first competition then we’ll rethink it and let you know.”

“Ally...” I glared at him.

“Let me do this one competition. Then we’ll see.” Mikey caved, knowing that there was no way he’d be able to talk me out of it.

“Gerard’s asleep; try not to be too loud.” I laughed.

“A stampede of wild elephants couldn’t wake him.” I replied, dumping my things into my room and showering.

“So, you’re first competition?” Katie asked. I nodded, grabbing one of the bobby pins sticking out from my mouth and sliding it into my hair. “Awesome.”

“Hey Ally.” Patty said, walking into the meeting area. “S’up?” I shrugged placing another bobby pin in, forming a high bun.

“Nervous?” Katie asked. I shrugged.

“A little.” I pushed the last bobby pin into place. “Hey guys.” I waved to Mikey and Gerard who were weaving past all the bags that had been dumped on the floor.

“It’s Gerard!” Katie exclaimed. I had forgotten that I didn’t tell them he was back.

“That’s right.” He grinned. “So, how are the wild animals?”

“We’re doing good.” Katie replied, nodding her head. I shrugged, downing more of my water.

“Are you sure you want to do this Ally?” Mikey asked.

“I said I’ll get through this competition, then we’ll see.” I hissed, ignoring my older brother and two friends a few feet away.

“You shouldn’t be doing this Ally.” Mikey whispered so only I could hear. “You’re using skating as a cheap imitation of Dance. You’re not enjoying it.” It was true. I didn’t want to compete anymore.

“I have to do this one. Then I’ll stop.” I promised him. “Just this one.”

“C’mon Mikey, let’s go find our seats.” Gerard called. “You girls coming?” Mikey sighed, locking his eyes with mine, then followed Gerard to the door.

I waited in the dressing room until it was almost my turn. Then I headed out to the line of girls waiting to compete.

“Remember, look happy, if you mess up, just keep going, and keep your arms in on that spin.”

“Regina! I know.” I snapped, now shaking with nerves. “I’m going to do great.”

The girl ahead of me went out, going through her program with ease. I glided out to the ice, greeting her thunderous applause.

I took my time skating to the center and striking my opening pose. My breath caught in my throat as the music started and I went into motion.

Chapter Eight

Pain shot through my right arm as my eyes opened slowly. It took a few moments for my vision to clear up; I squinted against the harsh brightness of the hospital room. I turned my head slightly to get a better look around; I instantly regretted the movement, as my head starting to throb. There were two IV’s piercing the skin of my left arm. One in the wrist, one in the elbow.

I hated needles; I hated hospitals, most of all I hated not being able to remember how I got there.

“Ally?” I winced at the sound of my name. “Thank God!” I slowly turned my head towards the door, wincing as the pain returned. Katie was standing in the doorway, dressed in her usual all black. She looked very relieved to see me awake. I tried to ask her what happened, but my voice failed me. I licked my lips and tried to talk again, but couldn’t.

“You passed out on the ice.” Katie explained, catching the gesture. She walked into the room, sitting on the edge of the bed. “You were overheated.” The concern flashed through her green eyes. “You’ve been unconscious for almost 32 hours.” My eyes widened. “You had us all scared.” I swallowed hard, finally finding my voice.

“Where’s Mikey?” I asked, knowing he’d be really scared.

“He took Gerard home. You know how much the guy hates hospitals...” I groaned. “He seemed pretty bad, I mean, it was hard enough for him to see you unconscious, but when they put the needles in...” I swallowed down the bile that rose in my throat. “You’ve had an unnaturally high fever, that’s what the needles are for.”

“How high?” I asked, dreading the answer.

“108 was the peak. We’ve been so afraid you would take a turn for the worse.” My heart skipped a few beats.

“I’m lucky to be talking to you.” I gasped, Katie nodded, tears brimming in her eyes.

“We were so scared Ally. Mikey and Gerard especially. It was so hard....to watch them leave. To see them so scared...” I knew how surreal it must have been for my friends to see my brothers scared. It was hard for me to comprehend the idea. “I-I should go get the doctor.” Katie sniffled, wiping her eyes on her sleeve. She stood up and walked out of the room. Returning a few minutes later, followed by a woman in her mid 40’s with deep red hair and brown eyes.

“It’s good to see you awake Ally.” She said, sounding just as relieved as Katie had been. “You gave us quite the scare.” I snorted, from what Katie had told me, it was way worse than that. The doctor ignored me and checked the machines that I was hooked up too. “You’re fevers gone down, that’s a good sign. How are you feeling?”

“Lucky to be alive, from what Katie’s told me.” I said dryly. “My arm is numb and my head won’t stop throbbing.”

“You fell down pretty hard, and from what I understand, you passed out in the middle of a jump that was already challenging for you. You’ve fractured your arm in several places, and you have a mild concussion.” I squeezed my eyes shut. “We’ll get you on some medication for that headache, I’ll be right back.”

“Please don’t stick anymore needles in me.” I begged softly once she left. Katie chuckled softly.

“You’re awake.” I heard someone gasp from the doorway. I smiled weakly as Mikey hurried over, taking my left hand gently. “You scared us all.” I could see his eyes were red, and immediately felt dreadful.

“I’m really sorry.” I whispered faintly. Mikey shook his head.

“There was nothing you could have done; your fever was too high.”

“How’s Gerard?” I asked, fearing the answer.

“He’ll be okay, now that you’re awake.” Mikey assured me. “It took forever to calm him down.” I could hear the slight tremor in my brother’s voice, and I could feel his hand shaking as well.

“You don’t seem to calm yourself.” I jested.

“Look at yourself Ally, think about the condition you’ve been in. How could I be?” I winced as he leaned in for a hug, my arm splintering from the pain. I carefully wrapped my left arm around his neck.

“You called the others didn’t you?” I asked as the doctor returned. Mikey nodded. I hated to worry the other guys, but I guess it was up to Mikey what happened while I was unconscious.

“Gerard panicked when your fever peaked. He called Ray and Frank before I managed to calm him down. Ray’s on his way back, since his job's been taken care of anyway. I convinced Frank to stay. I figured you’d want that.” I nodded, wincing as the doctor stuck another needle into me. “I also got a hold of Bob on my way back.”

“Is he-?” Mikey shook his head.

“I just warned him that Gerard would be calling once I left. He’ll know what to do.” Mikey sat down on the bed next to me. I scooted over to lean against his side. The doctor checked the machines one more time, then said something to Katie, who followed her out.

“When can I leave?” I asked softly, leaning my head against Mikey’s chest.

“I don’t know.” He replied, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “That’s up to Dr. Maywright.” I sighed, closing my eyes. Katie returned a few minutes later with a tray of pasta and grapes. She set the tray down in front of me and Mikey. I lifted my head slowly, starting to feel sick again.

“Dr. Maywright said you need to eat something.” The food looked disgusting, but I nibbled on some of the grapes. My stomach squirmed, threatening to reject the nourishment.

“Do you want any of the pasta?” Mikey asked tenderly, stroking my hair. I shook my head. Mikey sighed, picking up the tray and carrying it out of the room.

“Poor guy.” Katie pouted as he disappeared down the hallway. “He’s been so worried about you.” I glared at her.

“When has he not been protective of me?” I asked. “Honestly, it’s Gerard I’m worried about. He’s the one who hates seeing me or any of us in a hospital bed. I’m more anxious about his sanity.” I fell silent as Katie’s phone beeped. She stepped out of the room to answer it.

“Yea, she’s awake.” Her voice floated in. “Okay, see you in a bit.” She hung up and walked back in. “Patty’s coming.” She said, taking a seat. “She’s gonna call Michelle.” I grinned weakly.

“Anyone else we should invite over before we party?” I asked jokingly.

“We could call Amber and Basil; I’m just not sure the doctors would appreciate it.” Katie laughed.

“Hey.” Mikey walked back in, his hands shoved into his pockets. “I’m gonna go get Gerard, now that you’re awake, it shouldn’t be so hard for him to see you here.” I nodded; Katie stood up and followed my brother out into the hall.

“What was that about?” I asked when she returned a little later.

“I just told him Patty and maybe Michelle would be coming.” She replied, grabbing a remote off of the bedside table and flicking on the TV. “I bet there’s nothing on.” I was glad to have Katie there, because even if she didn’t try, she always managed to keep me calm in any situation.

“Ally!” Michelle cried. I smiled as she hurried into the room.

“Hey.” Patty said, walking in behind her. Even though she appeared calm, I could see the same relief in her eyes that had shown clearly in Katie’s eyes. Patty stepped forward and gave me a friendly hug.

“We’re really glad to see you awake.” Michelle said. “So, we bought you this.” She held out a small brown, fuzzy teddy bear. “We know you love stuffed animals.” I grinned.

“He’s so cute!” I giggled. “Thanks you guys!” I took the bear from her, squeezing it gently.

“We decided that you needed something to keep you company when no one’s around.” Patty informed.

“I appreciate it.” Within the next five minutes, the awkwardness that had initially been there had gone away. We were laughing and joking the way we always did.

“Ally?” Someone whispered in disbelief. I turned my head away from Michelle who had been trying to say something, and looked at the two men standing in the doorway. My eyes widened as they landed on Gerard.

His dark red shirt hung loosely over his body and looked like he’d been wearing it for three days in a row. I could tell he hadn’t washed his shoulder length dark hair in a few days, because it hung in greasy clumps around his pale face.

“Thank God.” He gasped, lunging forward and hugging me. I had never seen him like this, seeming so helpless and afraid. “How are you feeling?” He breathed, refusing to let me go.

“You’re crushing me.” I replied in a light mood. Gerard pulled away instantly. “I feel fine.” I lied, throughout the hour or so I’d been awake, I’d experienced bouts of weakness and fever like symptoms.

“You’re sure?” Gerard asked, leaning over the bed, stroking my hair gently. I nodded, forcing a smile. “Good.” He grinned, leaning in to hug me again. I winced as some of his weight fell onto my broken arm.

“Gee, be careful.” Mikey chuckled, pulling him off of me. “She’s still injured and we’d like her to heal.” I smiled gratefully at Mikey.

“Sorry.” Gerard murmured. “I’m just glad to see her awake.” I watched his eyes land on my arm. “What’s the third one for?” He asked a trace of his fear of needles in his voice.

“Headache.” I replied.

“Another needle for a headache?” Mikey tapped his older brother on the shoulder, whispering something in his ear.

“I’ll be right back Ally, I promise.” He said, leaving the room.

“It’s little Miss Sunshine.” I lifted my head slightly to see who was here.

“Hey Ray,” I smiled, my voice trembling. I was lying on my side, avoiding lying on the broken arm. Patty and Michelle’s bear tucked right beside me, next to the stuffed frog from my brothers. It had almost been three days since I’d woken up.

“How are you feeling?” He asked, skipping right over the hug and flopping down into a seat near my bed.

“I’m really tired.” I shrugged weakly, shivering madly.

“I can come back later if you’d rather.” Ray frowned.

“No, you’re fine.” I said quickly, wiping a bead of sweat out of my eyes.

“I see you’re starting another stuffed animal collection.” Ray grinned. I laughed softly.

“Everyone seems to think I need some company while I’m here.”

“Do you mind if I contribute?” Ray asked, pulling something out of the bag he’d been carrying.

“Depends on what you have to contribute.”

“Close your eyes.” Ray replied calmly. I slowly closed my eyes and he placed the stuffed animal next to the others. “You can open now.”

“Should I be afraid?” I asked weakly. Ray chuckled.

“You should be very afraid.” I opened my eyes and looked.

“Awww.” I gasped, picking up the new toy. “It’s adorable!” The stuffed animal took the form of a blue dragon. Small and frail with large, wide blue eyes and tiny, leathery wings. “Saphira?” I asked, turning my wide eyes to Ray.

“From Eragon? Yea.” He nodded. I laughed.

“Thanks Ray, I love it.” I made the stuffed animal fly around my bed for a few moments. Ray laughed.

“I knew you would.” He replied, giving me a hug. “I’ll let you get some rest.”

“Bye.” I coughed as he turned to leave. The small cough escalated out of control for a moment as he disappeared down the hall.
