I recently learned that my friend's best friend is supposively cutting. She's worried about his girl and isn't sure what to do. Because, supposively she doesn't do it because she's depressed or suicidal or anything. From what I've heard, this girl only does it when something bad happens to her to get rid of the temporary emotional pain she feels. Or something.
I don't know if I should be worried or not. I mean, my friend said that this girl doesn't want to kill herself. She just cuts when she's going through something hard. So should I say something? Or do you guys think it's not really a big deal?

I think it's a case of hearsay and it's not really your battle to fight. Sure, it's great to be Superman and swoop in to save the day, but unless she's your direct friend, I'd stay out.
Plus, cutters usually do so to attract attention to their pain. What better way to show people that you hurt than to slash up your arms?

She's not showing anyone or sticking it in people's faces. There was one girl I met a long time ago that was a cutter. "hey, wanna see my arms?" "No, that's okay." "I cut last night. Wanna see?" "No, I'm good." *rolls up sleeves and sticks her arms under my nose* "See?" "Um, okay?" And that's not the case this time.

Perhaps is a more serious call for help? If you feel like you need to intervene, I would talk to her parents.

I kinda want to leave that as a last resort. I mean, it's not really my business. I'm just confused on whether it's a big deal or not and whether she's really hurting herself or not.

It's a big deal if you suspect there's more serious issues in her life. Maybe you should ask her what's going on?

I know that you want to help this girl. But usually if a "cutter" wants to cut they are going to do it. If she isn't suicidal then it's her way to release her pain. My sister did/does the same thing. She isn't suicidal and not a big attention whore, but when she's in pain she cuts. I know this probably doesn't help, but when your friend's friend is ready for help she will ask for it. Until then unfortunatly there is nothing you can do crying Sorry

ThaddeusTheThird I kinda want to leave that as a last resort. I mean, it's not really my business. I'm just confused on whether it's a big deal or not and whether she's really hurting herself or not. That's usually what I say. Parents as a last resort simply because the whole world can be turned upsidedown. And if she had TOLD someone that she was cutting without being asked, that's a cry for help right there. If someone found out without her wanting them to, then it's more seroius... I have a few friends that cut....Most of them are attention whores. Some of them stopped after their lives turned out for the better.... But all in all, someone needs to get her to stop. It can escalate even more easily than it can end.

Cutting is bad. neutral
Is the person cutting actually your friend, or your friends friend?

people who cut do it for 1 of 3 reasons: sad usually)
1: They really just want attention 2: They really want to die 3: They know it's the only pain they control.
when you cut you control the pain on every aspect, how deep, what object, how long, where.
maybe this person really just needs someone to talk to.
my therapist told me to wear a rubber band around my wrist and snap it on my wrist when I feel the erge to cut..
it was more painful and never cut the skin. Perhaps try this with her? it's a great way to kick the habit or to maintain safety.
