Ouch! eek
My boyfriend's brother sliced a chunk of flesh from his palm near his thumb when he was cutting carrots. You could flap the piece of skin back and forth the way it was cut. He had to get rushed to the hospital and get stitches. There is still a scar even though it was a long time ago.
His brother no longer eats carrots. neutral

This isn't an injury but it's wierd. My sister was cutting an apple and the knife slipped and slid across the bottom of her arm. But she wasn't cut.

I'm leaning toward freakishly lucky, because if the knife were dull she would have been using more force than normal to cut the apple and the sliding across her arm would very very likely have resulted in a serious cut.
I've personally had quite a few kitchen incidents and near misses. One was about the same as the first wound posted, I burnt the inside of my left wrist while I was cleaning a commercial grittle, and my skin stuck to the grittle and pull off. Hurt like hell, took months to heal. The employer was more mad at me than concerned, go figure. Another incident I had was when I sliced off a bit of skin from my right index finger while I was making juliennes from potatos. Scared the crap out of me, but fortunately it was shallow and I only need a band-aid. biggrin

I was making pancakes in a skillet (I was like 12 or something) and the pan flipped out of my hands while it was hot and I tried to catch it on the palm of my hand... OUCH

i think my worst was christmas eve 16 years ago when i was boning a turkey. as i finished, the knife slipped out of my greasy hands and landed point down right between my toes puncturing the skin "webbing". it almost made it to the bottom of my foot where it left a nasty bruise. my husband had to put the turkey away that night and cook it the next day while my foot was elevated since it was close to being a gusher. all we could say that entire evening and the next day was "save the liver" laughing our asses off! (see dan akroyd's famous julia child impersonation)
yes, i now wear closed toe shoes or clogs in the kitchen.

Yes I have hurt myself in the kitchen but my husband has me beat when it comes to getting hurt in the kitchen he cut part of his finger in the kitchen and still has nerve problems with it. Sometimes to the point he can not feel how hot something really is. And he is the one that likes to cook.
