I've done a little research. I have found, that among all of the sub-elements you find, there are actually eight main elements. Now, my research is still continuing (I can't spell that word), but this what I have found so far. Please, tell me what you think.
Among the elements of the world, there are mainly eight. The physical elements: Earth, Wind, Water,Fire, and the metaphysical elements: Darkness, Light, Chaos, and Spirit. The elements work togeather to create perfect harmony in nature.
Earth stands to keep a stable ground on which life can be founded and survive.
Wind is one element that I haven't been able to research on, and research suggestions would be appriciated.
Water allows life to live and provides a foundation of life itself (hopefully I'm not being redundant)
Fire has been regarded as an element that only causes destruction, but I have found that is not true. Fire serves as the element of a new beginning, allowing places in life itself to start over(once again, redundancy) Now, the physical elements that I described above are the elements that allow nature to simply exist. They are the elements that we can see, feel, smell, touch, taste(?), they are the founding elements of the world and are a major working in every living creatures life.
As there are the physical elements, there are also the metaphysical elements. These are the elements that work behind the scenes, governing every creatures life. they are the elements that dermine personality, and they are the only elements that don't have a concrete basis in every life.
Chaos is the element that allows life to move at the pace that it does, it makes every day different, and is one of the elements that allows life to begin.
Light is the element of goodness, basically. It is the element that makes heros, and is the element that is the basis of hope in every person/dragon on the planet (talking in terms of humans and dragons, I'm not sure about animals.)
Darkness Is the direct opposite of light. Darkness is the inherit evil that all living creatures posses (spelling, anyone?). Though it usually is the element associated with evil, it is also the element of reprive. By that meaning, it is the element that allows us to die. That may seem like a bad thing, but death is a natural phenomenon in the world that is needed.
And last, The element of Spirit. This is the element of life itself, so named the "Spark of Life". It exists in every living creature, keeping them all alive and well. As it is the element of life, it is also the only element that can be completly pushed out by the element of darkness, thus giving the creature the neccesary advent of death.
This is my research so far, and it has actually gone much deeper then this, but that is too much to write, and I'm just too dang lazy.
Please give me any suggestions you may have, any criticisms, or any contributions to the work I have so far. Please bear in mind that this work is not concrete, as I can't actually go out and study the elements up close and personally, all of the research I have gotten from the collective minds of others, and the workings of my own mind when I'm really bored, so realize that some of these things are subject to complete and utter change. Hopefully soon, I will have done enough work to post a chart containg all of the sub-elements as they pertain to the main elements. So, um *cough* discuss away!

I feel it incorrect to label darkness evil. I do not believe in good and evil, merely actions. Every action has a reaction etc. People who put the labels good and evil are doing it for propaganda purposes. No one is evil or good. We are what we are.
The research in darkness needs to dive much further IMO

Nothing is good or bad. Thats too black and white. Here is a short summery of my idea, expecially when pertaining to people. They do not have to be all of the words listed, they can be one or two or something. And it is what feels the most prominent in someone since we can all have these things.
Fire Passion and sometimes fury and temper.
Water Emotional, compassionate, humanitarian.
Earth Supportive, loyal, calm and collected.
Air Dreamy, cheerful outwardly (even when not inwardly), sometimes indecisive
Darkness Mistrusting, isolated, skeptical, maybe even a little more selfish than others
Light Bubbly, judgemental (puts labels-> good & bad), egotistical sometimes
I've never heard of Chaos and Order as being elements and technically they are not. They are just more labels of good and bad, black and white, right and wrong.

Chaos and order, along with spirit, would be elements of the soul.

The only elements I know of are Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light, and Dark. Everything else is a combination of these or directly classified under one of these. Darkness is not the opposite of light, it is the absence of it. The oppposite of light is rare in this universe, you have to look elsewhere in our multiverse, the opposite of light isn't confined to one universe, every multiverse has it's own amount of Oppi-Light. (I can't think of a better name right now, not one in english anyway, so this is what you get.) Life is not Spirit. The body is made of all four base elements. Darkness and Light are not base elements, they only existed after the First Elements. The 'soul' as labled by mainstream religions, is simply a by-product of the fusion of these Four. Death is caused by an equlibrim of energy. Also known as entropy. Life is sustained by an imbalance of energy input and ouput. When input is higher, life is sustained. When energy out is greater, then health rapidly fails. (For example, a gunshot wound. This wound makes the body expend more energy then it has coming in when the body tries to heal. This causes energy to balance, and death occurs. Anouther theory suggests that the body may also leak energy through wounds, causing pain and disttress. This energy can be labled many things, but I find the concept of Chi goes a long way toward explaining this.) Entropy is a balanced state of energy, it is also classified as the process in which usable energy is transformed into non-useable energy. (Think twig, burnt to ash. The ash can't be re-light.)
This is all I have right now, but I'll add more when I get a chance, and I don't want to go into details, that way this only takes a small amount of space, and not a whole page.

and on a related topic
According to Chinese traditions, everything is constantly changing and interacting and that happens through the five main elements. Feng shui traditional knowledge and all its guidelines are based on these five feng shui elements. Therefore, when wishing to harmonize a place according to feng shui, these elements must be properly employed according to their characteristics and effects.
One first feng shui element is wood, which has the Chinese name of Mu. Wood represents innovation, creativity and birth, and it is a sociable element. This element corresponds to the color green and the east direction. It's animal is the Dragon. By placing this element at a strategic spot in any space, you would be adding all of which it represents.
Another feng shui element is fire, called Huo in China. Fire symbolizes and brings activity, enthusiasm and energy to the places where it can be found. It is a warm element that must be treated with measure since too much of it can destroy what surrounds it. Fire is represented by the color red and direction south. It's animal is the Phoneix.
A next element is earth or Tu in Chinese. This feng shui element symbolizes stability, patience and honesty. It is a methodic element that can also become demanding, and is ideal for everything that is related with real estate and inheritances. Earth is symbolized by color yellow corresponds with the center. It's animal is the Serpent.
Metal or Jin in Chinese is another main feng shui element. It represents success in businesses and harvesting. It can also represent a knife or cutting metal and be destructive through it. White and gold are the colors that symbolize it, and its direction is west. It's animal is the Tiger.
One last element is water, called Shui in Chinese. It has a very important role among feng shui elements, and actually the name feng shui contains its name in it, meaning water and wind. Water mainly represents communications and traveling. But it also represents learning, arts and media. Water is elemental for living, not only for humans but also animals and plants. It can be quiet or violent. This element is represented by the color black and direction north. It's animal is the Turtle.

Summary of this topic: What the elements are are a matter of opinion and religion, if you try to nail it down as an absolute (outside of an rp where the participants are accepting the world you came up with) you're bound to offend someone.

In my personal opinion, I often list "holy" and "evil" if I'm talking of good and bad, just because it makes it a bit more direct.
I'm wondering; could there be an element of the psyche? Such as ESP and such things? I'm just guessing it can be counted under the general umbrella of 'spirit', though.
