For those of you who appreciate the average person's views and opinions on movies... look no further... you're there...

This is the place that I'll post two different things concerning movies that come out...

I'll post my expectations of the movie in question before I see the film... summing up what I'm looking for, how I think it'll be, why I want to see it and the like...

After I see the film, I'll edit my expectations post to include my review of the movie...

Finally a place I can properly vent my frustrations and obsessions...

(Pretty enough for you Ve?)

PS: Please please please keep this thread devoid of comment and discussion... just for the sake of keeping it neat.

I'll start a different thread for discussion.

CASINO ROYALE

Pre-Review:
I thought it'd be nice to talk (even more) about a movie which come out ten days from now, adding another piece of cinema history to what is already a longstanding successful series... I'm talking of course about Casino Royale... and I'm ready to share my expectations and thoughts before I see the film just in case you wanted to know whether or not I feel that it'll be worthwhile to see opening day or at a midnight showing...
There are many elements which I feel could make this movie one of the worst in history, I have had many reservations since I first heard the details surrounding this movie... let's get to it...
Cons:
1) Daniel Craig - You're actually going to find this name on both the pros and cons lists... When I think of James Bond I think of anybody but this guy, he's blonde, isn't particularly good looking in my opinion and has sort of a rough edge to him while previous Bonds have always had a sort of playful, tongue-in-cheek approach to saving thw orld, wrecking the car, and banging the Bind girl. I'm afraid that with this harder edged Bond, he won't be recognized as anything except what the trailer describes him as, "half-monk, half-hitman."
2) Seprequal - When James Bond first hit the printers, the year was 1952. Ten years later Sean Connery donned the tux and took up the Walther to first bring him to life on the big screen for Dr. No in 1962. This movie is set in the year 2006, but the events take place before James Bond earns his rank as a double-O agent at MI6. Also characters (such as Judi Dench's M) are seen acting alongside 007 even though they are out of place in the timeline (Judi Dench's character of M is actually a different character than other Ms and hasn't been present the entire series). Make sense to you???
3) Missing Characters - Certain classic Bond characters, such as Q and and Ms. Moneypenny will not be in this film. I'm afraid that when they are through they may have a good movie, but it may not be a James Bond movie.

There are some ups to the downs though...
Pros:
1) Daniel Craig - While James Bond may not be serious all the time, he is most of the time and this man looks as if he may be the most serious actor to order a Martini and kill a man in the same breath. The trailer reveals that there are some moments of humor which has always been Bond.
2) Roots of Bond - This movie as I said before is a prequal and could be pretty good biography-wise for the James Bond series. Also if you forget the strange time setting, it could be rather interesting to see James become Bond.
3) Elements of Classic Bond - The classic elements of a James Bond movie abound: a villain with a scar, a hot Bond girl, an nice fast car, plenty of action, an awesome freaking trailer. These are elements that have always been in James Bond movies since the very beginning and hopefully will make up for the lack of other elements.

But ultimately the decision is this... if you want to be chilled, thrilled and killed by a licensed professional, go see James Bond. My prediction is that if the viewer is willing to forgive the odd method used for the reinvention of James Bond, then Casino Royale will awe and amaze. I hope to see everyone there on November 17th.

Review:
Not an hour ago I left the movie theater having just seen what can only be described as one of the best James Bond films I've ever seen. I won't lie to you and say what I saw was perfectly done because by all means it wasn't, but I must saw in almost every facet of the movie I was impressed.
Daniel Craig's portrayal of the character was amazing. Typically I define a good actor by whether or not I could get the same performance out of anyone else, and with this basis, Craig was phenomenal... He was a great choice. His cold demeanor was chilling and then when he took off his armor, he was human, human just as human could be. He had the charm and the wit, but with that new-to-the-game rogue cockiness that made him different from the other James Bonds.
The other actors portrayed their characters with dead on accuracy. Judi Dench returning as M was fantastic and Mads Mikkelsen was amazing as the blood weeping Le Chiffre. Le Chiffre was a return to classic Bond villainy in which he is only interested in making more money and staying alive, but the realistic edge that was added is present in everything that happens, like the squirm-in-your-seat torture sequence. Eva Green playing the Bond girl Vesper Lynd was your classic in your face Bond girl, very simply put. I was however correct, the MIA Q and Moneypenny were sorely missed, honestly it felt like less of a Bond film with their absence. I certainly hope that they both appear in the sequel.
The action was gritty rugged and real when it needed to be, deaths were slow and close-up, but that didn't mean that James Bond didn't break out his trusty Walther when he needed to. Neither bullets nor their targets were spared and the amazing hand to hand sequences were well paced and exciting.
The overall plot of the film was very good. As someone who isn't unfamiliar to Texas Hold 'em the poker scenes were almost as intense as the action sequences and the different obstacles Bond faces as he achieves his goal are great but he does overcome them.
In my opinion Craig receives props as he breathes new breath into the franchise, and this movie gets an amazing, but could have been better... go see it and you will be pleased and proud to the origins of 007.

NIGHT at the MUSEUM

I really thought I would do this a lot more often than I am but since I'm not, I figure I may as well do one at least once a month. It's Pre-Review time and this time it's of a movie that seems to be a return to good old fashion family comedies, a genre I still pray will again shine bright on the silver screen.
Ben Stiller plays a night watchman hired to guard a natural history museum, but what the former watchman (d**k Van Dyke) fails to explain as he shows him around for the first time to be left on his own, is that at night, everything, from miniature cowboys to the assembled bones of a T-Rex, comes to life.
First of all, I don't particularly enjoy the comedy of Ben Stiller, he's not as over the top as Will Farrel, but he has that same type of vibe, more often than not, nothing is sacred when it comes to him. But this appears to be one of those movies in which he doesn't/ isn't able to cross the line of what's funny to adults is too mature for kids, and in that respect I think he'll play a decent kind of Lou Costello character, not knowing what's going on, everything jumping at him at every corner.
Veteran comic d**k Van Dyke playing the former watchman surprises me, but then again it doesn't... his character seems to have somewhat of a sinister edge to it which isn't exactly the chimney sweep we know and love. It seems to me that this may not be the best casting decision, but I guess we'll see and it I do want to say it'll be a sad day when I must say to someone that we've lost d**k Van Dyke to the clutches of mortality.
And finally Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt, a perfect choice... probably the best casting decision, his antics and wackiness will truly bring what is needed with a plot like this...
So what is my judgement? Go see it... I'm definitely going to... I believe it will be something to the effect of a live action Disney/Pixar film... and not a crappy one either. Have fun at the movies!

Review:

Well just last night I saw Night at the Museum and I have a few things to say about it. It was alright, I'm not giving it an awesome, but I am giving it that it was a less well done type of Jumanji movie. It had moments where all the dialog felt stiff and not at all how people actually talk. Also the movie was very formulaic to the point where you could follow story arc of a family movie almost to a tee.
What made the movie fun for me is that I enjoy letting go of reality and slipping into a simple and understandable setting and dealing with it: life sucks, watch movies. This was just that, the sight gags we funny usually and not much was over the top, but just right for the film in the genre of family flick.
d**k Van Dyke as I thought wasn't the best choice to play the bad guy and Ben Stiller could have been replaced by just about anyone (Jim Carrey could probably have done it better) and Robin Williams was actually perfect.
There you have it, not the deepest review for what wasn't a very deep movie. I liked it, you might not. It's silly, it's aimed for kids, but it's one of those unlikely adventure type situations that I enjoy putting myself in the characters shoes.
