While I was watching the second part of The Age Of Steel, I think that is it, when I notcied that the Cyberman made a code to override everything. And it got me thinking....
Why do people make override codes and self distruct buttons? In the end, it comes back to work agenst you...
Any ideas why we do this???
(( This also goes back to a spongebob episode I saw....))

It's a failsafe. If something goes wrong with the Cybermen, e.g. a circuit blows and they go running off to cause doom against your will, you can press the self destruct button to stop them. Same goes with the override code.

Why do people put force-quit commands in computers?(that's CTRL-ALT-DEL to you windoze users) Because if the program freezes(or equivalent) you have a way to quit it and move on. I mean, you can hardly just unplug a whole army of Cybermen. If a program freezes, you override it, and send the Cybermen back for a firmware update, instead of letting them go all faulty and malfunction.
My biggest problem with all that is how all the Cybermen react when their emotions get turned back on. I wouldn't explode if I found out I was a robot. I'd just, y'know, learn to live with it.

True. I dont think I would explode.... I would be mad... but not to the point I wouldn't go insane. Rose was annoying in that episode too.... Still, it was clever how the Doctor told them how to get it.

Why does Alt+F4 exist?
Basically Fredwise is right with the failsafe theory. However i suppose with Cybermen they may at SOME point have wanted to give them emotions again. Why did their heads explode when they found out is what confused me the most.

If I were a Cyberman, and my emotions got turned back on, I'd probably just say, "Hey! What the hell?" and maybe get really angry, but come on. Even if I tried, I doubt I would explode...unless they have "OH NOES" bombs built into their heads.

I would, I wouldn't be able feel or touch or anything. I'd rather die than be a heartless monster like machine.

Your brain wouldn't be able to take the shock and it would just shut down. It might not explode but you'd just plain switch off.

I don't think everyone would explode. It would depend on their outlook on the world to begin with. Cyberpunks might be dead chuffed with the change. Personally I'd buy myself some of those ABC fridge magnets and start spelling rude messages across the other Cyberpeople.

Your brain wouldn't be able to take the shock and it would just shut down. It might not explode but you'd just plain switch off. Oh come on! You can't cause a fiery explosion with thought! If anything, you'd blow a fuse and fall over. That can be fixed. Computers only explode when they overheat, and not even that badly. They kind of pop a bit and smoke billows out from any seams. Infact, the only realistic damage is data loss. As I said, they would only explode if they have bombs. I suppose the emotion could end up sending commands everywhere, perhaps triggering a self-destruct mechanism. But that seems highly unlikely. Personally, I think it's not that big a deal. I spend most of my free time tinkering with computer code anyway. Not that big a change really. EDIT: Just a thought, but if the brain is digital, surely they could erase emotion? If not, then they STILL wouldn't explode. If the shock is that powerful that it causes explosions then you'd need some seriously sci-fi wires to transmit it. If they use wires like what we use, then the wires would just short out. No explosion, though you'd need repairs on a massive scale afterwards. I suppose the Preachers could go and shoot the Cybermen while they were down. That, and who would go collect the Cybermen? They'd then need automated robots...

So there'd be a bunch of very thick Cybermen wandering around... with rude messages all over them.
