..while you read New Moon?

I was fine with Bella, and so was all of my friends. (Well.. mostly.)

Then we started reading New Moon and all she did was complain and cry about how awful her life was, even though she had Jacob. Not only does she complain too much but she decides to jump off a cliff so she can hear 'Edwards voice'.

And then Edward came back and asked her to marry him and she turns him down? Seriously, Bella, you're going to be with him for eternity if you become a vampire, so why not just say yes?

After reading New Moon, me and all of my friends from school pretty much thought she was an idiot.. What do you guys think?

((P.S. Sorry if I offended any of you Bella fans...))

Picture this. You're dating the most gorgeous guy in the world and he dumps you. But not only does he dump you, but he removes everything about him from your life as if he had never existed.

I think I would pine away like that too. And if I could hear Edward's voice by jumping off of a cliff ... I would do it in an instant (but it would be a smaller cliff than the one Bella jumped off of). You have to look at it from her perspecive. Edward was her life in Forks, and then he was gone. How do you deal with that? It's not something you can get over within a few weeks, or months.

No, I didn't start to hate her. At least she tried to act normal for Charlie. Angela was pretty cool there, Jessica was mean, she shouldve tried to understand. I probably wouldn't have jumped off a cliff, but then I can't imagine being that far in love either.

Angela was cool in New Moon, but Jessica was just plain mean to her. Although yes, Bella was acting a bit of a spoiled brat, you do have to sympathize with her though, about what she's going through, what with first love and all that. However, using Jacob Black was just not cool.

Edward is not just some run-of-the-mill guy. He is not some boyfriend Bella will dump after highschool. No, he is Bella's true love that she was sure she would be with forever (and I mean forever).

So, Edward, the love of Bella's life, just leaves without warning. "I don't want you anymore, goodbye." That's it. There is no way, unless you're emotionally unstable, that you could just move on perfectly okay after that. I think that you would have to do a lot of crying.

As for her not being happy even with Jacob Black...
Jacob Black does not equal Edward Cullen. They are completely different in Bella's mind. He filled in some of that gap that Edward left, and she was happy when around Jacob, but that didn't change the fact the Edward left her.

As for the cliff...yes, that was incredibly irrational. I definitely would not do that. But remember that Edward was the person she lived for, and that was snatched away from her. Hearing his voice was the one thing she had of him with her.

Look at it this way, if the love of Your life just up and left you., nothing telling you he atually existed except for your memories what would you do?

Well, they are all right, so all I can really say is that Bella was just in shock. She didn't know what to do with herself. It's hard to imagine after going through so much suffering that she'd just be all "OOoooh OF COURSE I'll marry you Edward. Even though you left me for what seemed like an eternity of misery!!!" No, I wouldn't do that either. It takes a while to heal from something like that. Maybe she was just still trying to get over it.

Exactly. I mean, Edward was her love, her life. She had nothing else in Forks. I would definatley jump off a cliff [ha,ha] to hear his voice again. I mean, he just eliminated her from his life.

And yes, I was so mad when she turned down his proposal, but we'll see what happens in the third book. XD

No, I'm not mad at bella, If I were her I would have done ANYTHING to hear his voice again. Well, I am mad at her for turning down edward but she'll probably end up taking him back anyway.

Bella was completely aware of how good Jacob was to her, and we see her constantly contemplating whether to show him the affection he wants or not. So while she was complaining for most of the book, you have to understand her world had just fallen apart.

I wasn't mad over the proposal...but I was pretty darn confused. Then I see someone in one of the threads say she had good reasons to decline for now, but they'll be discussed in Eclipse. I don't know anymore...

I can see where you're coming from about feeling Bella was being idiotic during New Moon, but like everyone's been saying, she was completely torn apart. Not to mention Edward just did it all of a sudden in the midst of all their happiness and took (or should I say hid) all her keepsakes of him? I haven't ever fallen in love the way she has, but I must say I'd be pretty damn depressed too.

And with him leaving nothing with her to remember him by except memories, I'd probably be pretty desperate to not forget his voice too.

Actually, Bella kind of pissed me off in both books. She's always the one getting saved. And Edward always has to kind of chase after her...
She hasn't really done anything significant to the other characters in the books, come to think of it.

She didn't turn him down, she said she wasn't ready. Big.Difference.(That sounds sarcastic. Damn you emotionless keyboard!)

Even after all that Edward put her through, if she still wanted to live with him forever, why DIDN'T she accept his proposal. This makes no sense to me. confused

I absolutely 1000000000000000% agree with you she is an idiot personally if I had been her in the book I probably would have tracked Edward down instead of sitting and whinign all the time plus she was being a total jerk by pulling Jacob along like that >: (

i don't hate her. i admire her. i probably would have killed myself, but she tried to be strong. i think she's a bit of an idiot for not accepting his proposal, but that doesn't make me hate her.
