Grenades were invented in China over 1,000 years ago.
China is an ancient country with nearly 5,000 years of written history. The dynasties listed in the chronology are nearly all well recorded and documented by famous historians like Sima Qian.
Except for a few minority groups and some rural dwellers, families are strongly discouraged from having more than one child. Those who ignore the admonitions can be severely penalized. The government takes pride in this intrusive manner of population control.
Robert Morrison was the first Protestant to introduce Christianity in China. He arrived in Canton in 1807. From that time until 1949, hundreds of sending agencies sent thousands of missionaries to serve in China. China was a difficult mission field; converts came slowly. In 1949 there were no more than 750,000 Protestant Christians in China. After all the foreign missionaries left China in the early 1950s and all religious institutions were closed from about 1966 because of the Cultural Revolution, it was feared that Christianity might have died out once again. But, when the churches began to open up in 1979 it was discovered, even to the Chinese Christians’ amazement, that there were at least 6 million Christians. No longer foreign, all Chinese churches are just that: indigenous Chinese churches, and thousands of Chinese, young and old, are turning to Christ every day.
The largest canal is in China, known as The Grand Canal, 1,801 km long, the longest man-made river in the world. Its cutting began in the fifth century BC.

That'll be something interesting to tell my China and Japan obsessed friends come Tuesday. (For Monday is a fieldtrip and the way they set up groups there's a high chance I shall not be with them.) But if I was in China the one child family law type thing would ruin my dream of having a two child family.

Yep.. unless you were a government official or a rich person surprised I guess I would have to hope to be married into or be from a rich family then, wouldn't I? I think it was the early Chinese that may have contributed to the large population though, with the large families and 'many sons' way of life.

Another fun fact: there is a river in china named the yellow river. this is because of the minerals that make the river seem golden/yellow, but the name still makes me chuckle.
and also, on population control: there are 1 billion people in china, the government isn't doing too great of a job.

@Dragon::
Yeah, a ton of things were invented in China.. silk was discovered in china, they invented the second and most detailed writing system [mesopotamia had writing prior to China I believe], and paper[toilet paper hehe]. A ton more I cant remember..
Oh and they have had a population of nearly a million for over 2000 years, which is amazing... they used there large population to conquer there enemies and to build canals and small islands off their coast, every male had to serve for 2 years of his life. They were also the first civilization to allow women in there armies.

It may have been invented in China, but it was revolutionized in Italy.. ^^ Pizza wasnt invented in Italy either, it was invented in America, well we made it what it is today, the Italians only made dough with pasta sauce on it, there was no toppings on there pizza, no cheese that was not in the pasta and no meats either, or vegetables.
