I believe that as long as you do not let yourself fall to anysort of anger or rage caused by the lyrics you are fine. I like SK and AFI is ok. I love death metal and epic metal!.

I also enjoy rock music, but something I have discovered is just how much music affects the subconcious. Listening to music with non/anti-christian values over time can be unhealthy. That is why I started to listen to Christan rock instead. Some ones I like are: Switchfoot, Twelve Stones, Skillet and there are tons more. Granted I like the way System of a Down, Rob Zombie, Marlyn Mansion, and others sound with the instrumentals and the way they were sung, but I can't let myself be subjected to the message that they portray. What you put into your mind, eventualy comes out in your thoughts, emotions, and eventually actions; and music is really good at hitting you on a level that you are unaware of. Just understand that listening to the music isn't necessarily a bad thing, but do you really want to do something that can possibly turn you away from God. That is something you'll have to pray about and decide for yourself. Ask yourself is this keeping me from getting closer to God? Now you don't have to stop listening to the music you like, but just look at the lyrics and see if their message is anything close to God's, that will tell if its safe or not.

is it wrong to sing along with a song if it says "oh my God?"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 16, 2006 12:14 pm

I don't believe so... now if it said God-d then that might be a problem...

I am guessing AFI's A Single Second's opening phrase... "Oh, my God! My God this can't be happening!"

close. it's in totalimmortal where it says "oh my God i'm drowning!" because davey's biggest fear is of drowning. and the previous line says, "sometimes the water feels so real."

ah... I don;t believe that things like that are bad. It is just a person's way of calling out for help.

actually, i found out it actually says "my God, i'm drowning." i doubt if it makes a difference though.

I understand what you are saying, and I struggled with that also. There was actually a short time where my music did turn me away from God because the lyrics were so depressing, and I actually became depressed. I let the little things in life get me down because my music made me so emmotional in a bad way. Now, all I listen to is Christian rock. ADN there is a lot of good Christian rock out there. I personally love TFK, Skillet, Kutless, Falling Up, Switchfoot, and Hawk Nelson among others. YOu should try some of them. YOu might like 'em. Who says Christian music had to be boring! I rock away all day! Hey, that rhymed! blaugh

upon closer inspection of your post, i realize that i have another question. what if they aren't portraying God's message, but still aren't turning me away from God? actually, i think i have the answer to this. sweatdrop i'm addicted to posting!

What ever you listen to is cool, man. I love that song... umm I dunno the name but the chorus shouts, "Die Mother F'er! Die Mother F'er! Die!" I just tend to listen to it on the way to the range to get all my pent up frustrations to the surface and let em all go... Altough I have had people tell me that my gun handling gets sloppy when I am mad.

Anyway, no cursing doesn't "warp" you as long as you don't take the meaning to heart. After all if it is in your heart it will come out your mouth and actions.
