November is coming and with it comes election day!

If you are over 18 and haven't already registered, do so as soon as possible. Most States set a deadline in early November (which is only about two weeks away) if you want to vote this year. Google Earth has a very helpful feature if you have the program downloaded. It tells you where to register for each State.

If you are already registered, I would suggest stopping by your local city hall (or wherever your district does these things) and picking up brochures from each candidate so that you can make an informed decision.

If you are going to be away from your district (or living abroad like me), make sure to apply for your absentee ballot as soon as possible. Look up your district on google and there should be an order form.

If you aren't 18 yet, there's still a lot you can do. Get informed about the candidates and make sure that all your friends/family members are as well. Encourage any non-voting friends/family members over the age of 18 to do so. You can also participate in promotions for your favorite candidates.

And last but not least, do your best to get that jackass Rick Sanitorium out of office!

There's mutters of an election in Canada as well, but nothing definite yet - I heard earlier in the year that the Conservatives were planning for a fall election. If there is an election, DON'T VOTE CONSERVATIVE FOR ******** SAKE. (vote NDP! >> <<)

And anyone, registered to vote or not, can volunteer with a candidate's (or even a few!) campaign. Not only are you helping a good candidate get elected, but if you're applying for college, you can put it under community service/volunteering. 3nodding

I'm registered Republican so I can vote in the primaries. Oh, the shame of it all...

Of course, it's no worse than the Nelson-Ricketts catfight. "He supports higher taxes!" "Well, he supports amnesty for immigrants!" "Well, he's a doo-doo head!" "Well, he's a rich capitalist pig!" rolleyes

Bump for importance!

And btw, Kat, I voted for quite a few Republicans in the last local elections. There's nothing wrong with being republican. A lot of people have this "Political Party X = ALWAYS BAD and Political Party Y = ALWAYS the lesser of two evils," but that's just not true.

Yes, my opinions tend to side with the Democrats, the Greens, and the Socialists, but there have been times when I've looked at candidates from these groups and shat my pants for fear. There have been times when I've totally agreed with Republican candidates.

My point here is that it's very important for you to actually pick up the brochures for ALL the candidates and truly vote for the ones you agree with. Vote for the people, not the little symbols under their names.

Jack layton all the way! xd An election now would be so bad though..... the liberal party is still a mess.

'Mazing what Pual Martin did in 14 short months.

If nothing else though, even the conservative party has decided that abortion is a non issue, and they're not going to even talk about it. Gay marrige seems to be the greater evil to them right now.

There is one thing I love about my little red-state town. We have a county fair every september and during the fair all the local politicians set up booths. My birthday happens to fall on the same weekend as the fair, so when I turned 18 I headed straight for the league of women voters table and signed up. Every year since then talking to all the politicans and their volunteers has been part of my fair routine. What's cool is that some of them actually remember my fiance and I and they take the time to really talk to us. One of them is a friend of my fiance's brother and he used to go camping with their family. Another was my high school resource officer back in high school and is my best friend's uncle.
I've got all the information I need about the candidates. The only problem is that I can't find any information about the propositions we will be voting on. I live in a boarder town so I get Washington news instead of Idaho news. I know all about Washingons initatives but I don't know a damn thing about ours. I've heard word that the gay marriage ammendment is on there, but no one is geting the word out there that people need to vote!

I'm totally excited to vote. I missed the last election because I was too sick to get out of the house and vote and I feel so guilty about it.
Unfortunetly my assigned polling place is a very conservative church. I hate going in their to vote and I'm totally paranoid about my vote being tampered with. During the 04 election I stood around and watched to make sure that my ballot went in the correct box.

Aw, Jesus, I live right next to Nebraska and our cable comes from Omaha so I see those god damned commercials all the time. >_<
The stupidest one of them all was one of Pete Ricketts'. It was to the tune of E-I-E-I-O and had some of the shittiest animation known to man. SOOOO STUPID! *Bashes head into desk* Anyway, I got my absentee ballot the other day, so I'm good to go. -Insert Taco Bell hand wave...thing here-

Well, you can still probably get involved in campaigning for candidates and getting your friends and relatives who can vote to actually go out and register to vote.

Aiko_Kaida - Sickness is actually a problem. Winter is a HORRIBLE time to have elections.

Also, check with your local city hall. If they don't actually have brochures for you, they should at least be able to tell you where to go to get the information you need.

My county generally also has most of the brochures for the propositions on tables outside the building where people are voting. So I like to go pretty early when I'm in the country and sit outside reading everything before I go in.

I'm so glad I get to vote this year... anyone who isn't taking advantage of it is crazy, because there's way too many closed minded assholes out there we need to get rid of! scream
