I decided to make a topic about it, after thinking long about it.

How are you are your DOCs/DOTs? Did you have any problems with it? Were they easily cracked? Was the face-up done well? Did the wigs stain? Do their clothes fit their own bjds? Etc...

Why am I asking this?

I've been planning to get a Doc Too for almost a year now and while I'm saving up for one I've been hanging out here and at DOA for research as a preparation to taking care of him.

However, recently I've been finding some complaints on DOD's resin that it was too thin that it gets easily cracked. This will obviously concern me, but as a lot of people on DOA said, one should not get discouraged just by rare cases, and that DOD's staff are very nice and if there is fixes needed to be made they will do it.

But, I'm skeptic, so I will broaden my knowledge. Not just on the resin quality, but any info while I'm at it.

I simply want to know:
1. Any problems that were encountered with your DOD in terms of shipping/quality of resin/posing/etc, if there were any.
2. If there were any problems what you did to fix it
3. A picture of the said problem (as much as possible)

sorry if this will seem like i'm asking too much, but as a future customer I want to know what I'm dealing with. I know I want this, but I still want to consider the finance and the like.

I have have Quill(DoT Camine for quite some time now and have never had a problem.

First of all, resin quality. He isnt thin at all, quite heavy really. Good, thick resin. DoCs are even tougher-built than the DoTs( thick joint areas...sturdy). Some say they look plasticky....they do at first. That wears off or can be buffed down with a very tiny grit sandpaper if you're impatient( very small grit...Testors makes a pack of hobby papers that work good for this...second smallest grit should be used). Every compnay has issues.....its hard to be perfect since resin casting is kind of twitchy and proper curing can be a pain( especially in monsoon season, which also effects faceups). As far as other companies and resin issues, happens to everyone. Ie: Volks pureskin knee breakage, odd CP resin( my sis has a Lishe that is both a strange texture as well as so dark she looks like a pale tan, though she is normal skin...CP has no consistancy with their resin at all), thin and easily chipped resin in the CP MiniFaes( bought one for a freind...thin everywhere with a bubble between the breasts that she had to sand down)

On posing: Quill is a beautiful poser, a friend of mine's Too is a super fabulous poser, my other friend's BeeA is a superb poser, etc. Wh? Good stringing......most people give up on them without trying to get the stringing right. The company doesnt always send them out perfectly strung....thats an owner preference and responsibility. Quill was pretty loose at first, and now poses like a champ. Sometimes, you may need to pull as much as 7 inches of extra stringing out( which I recently did with a friend's BeeA...she poses pretty good now, except that her ankle cap is missing, though she still stands fine)

On faceups: Quill has a beautifully done faceup! I love his lips the most. They do better faceups than big names like Volks, who I think are the blandest looking dolls on the face of the Earth(except Sweet Dreams Mimi, who as a super cute faceup). I got the brown option faceup for him, since he was my first doll and I was afraid to do it myself. Its absolutely lovely.

On wigs: I have 3 wigs from DoD and they fit just fine and have never stained. They only stain if the dye in the fibers wasnt set well enough. Can happen with any company....rare occurance.

On clothing: Clothing can be a crapshoot with any company. All my DoT clothes fit fine. Ive had stuff from others look like bags on my dolls( not to Volks bash again, but half of everything they make fits like a bag and doesnt really look good on)

I completely recommend DoD personally...I plan to get many more of thier dolls. The customer service was perfect and quick and very polite. They responded well to questions and to requests( I asked to have his ears pierced, and they did. I hear you can also request eye color, and they will if they have anough stock, otherwise they wont...but if they dont, its not becuase they are ignoring you or being jerks. Cant do faceup requests though). Many of my friends have multiple dolls from this company and have never had a problem with them, so faults do happen. If you get one with issues, contact the company, be polite, and they can help you out with possible replacement parts and such( since all parts are cast separately, not all parts will be thin)

You can email them in english. All you need is clothing when the doll arrives. They all have a default wig and eyes they come with. They come fully assembled and strung, and with a faceup and eyelashes if you order that with them.

I have a Yen boy with both the tender and regular heads. And he's been a real trooper. Nothing broken that wasn't my doing (I scratched up the inside of his neck with a bit of wire when I was changing his head and the string fell down.) I had DOD do the faceups because he was my first doll and because I wanted both heads to match (as they are the same character). The faceups are lovely. He came with beautiful green acrylic paperweight dome eyes.

The only problem I had was with his wig. It was a bit on the loose side. That was an easy fix with some velcro. It also left little black marks on his forehead if he wore it for a long time. I just put some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and wiped it up. It never left a permanent mark.

I have a DOT Lahoo and he was almost exactly as advertised!
My only problems were that I
1)didn't care for his acrylic default eyes or eye putty
2)he was srung a little loose
3)....no, that's it! ^_^;

Aside from those things, he was absolutely perfect for me!
Also, I've dropped him several times and he still doesn't even have a scratch on him! mrgreen

My Too and Bee-a set didn't arrive with default wigs, I ordered them with the dolls, but they haven't stained at all. Only complaint I have is that the tend to lose hairs if I'm a little less than careful with them. I made the faceups myself so that I cannot answer.

DoDs are still extremely beautiful to me, but I'm giving mine up because their sculpts no longer fit in with what I want. For some reason, the DoD sculpts look too anime-esque to me and I want to have ones that are more realistic.

The shipping, though... Holy crap. Originally, Too and Bee-A were ordered for my birthday -the order was placed in early September.

The dolls didn't finally come until Dec 17. stare At least they made it in time for X-mas, but still. sweatdrop

They aren't. Ken dolls are proportioned wierd, and it's only the shirts that fit, and then only some of the time. My DOC is pretty much the same size as most MSD size dolls.

I've found that DoDs don't look a thing like they do on the website.

False advertisement, yo.

I also don't like their molds at all. confused

decisions on a doll are best based on looking at both the website and at owner pics of the mold you like. When I got Quill, he looked exactly like the picture on the website, but not everyone has had the same experience.DoD bjds continue to have a bad rep for certain things, and can be hard to photograph for some people( which I never understood, but there are an inordinate amount of baaaad DoD owner pics).I dont think they are falsely advertised, but styled like crazy and photographed to look a very particular way. I wouldnt call that false really, but it doesnt necessarily give the best impression of the mold either. I like alot of the DoT molds, but there are some I wouldnt spend an ounce on( Pitts!!?? freakin alien thing...ick). I found Volks to be worse advertised....I was shocked at how my Black Cat Lucas looked, and the same with my sis' SwD Mimi......completely different looks( BC I hate his hideous faceup but love his mold, and SwD Mimi turned out to be a cute faceup but I mold I dislike greatly)
