Until we get the funds to start making sub-forums this is where we can talk about Bruce Dickinson’s side projects.

Keep this thread on his solo career not his work with Maiden.

Skunkworks and Accident of Birth are my two fave Bruce albums. Skunkworks has Inertia on it which is just amazing -drools- but Accident of Birth has The Magician and Darkside of Aquarius!!!! <3 solo Bruce, it's awesome 3nodding

Bruce's solo career was fantastic. Again, it's hard for me to choose a favorite of anything that has so many great songs to offer, but I just can't get the chorus from "Kill Devil Hill" out of my head. HAHA

I've never really listened to it. I was at Cheapo in Uptown a while back, saw a CD of his, scanned it, and the song wouldn't play. So instead I just read the reviews. All the reviews said was "how lost he is without Maiden" and "No where near worth buying."

Kind of made me sad. emo

I'll go check it out sometime now that I have a license and can drive there if I want to. xd

I think a lot of those reviewers were probably not happy that he left Maiden to begin with. If they gave it a chance they would see that it was fantastic music just the same. 3nodding

It's almost the same way people look at the new Iron Maiden CD. Most people can accept, and understand new things. But there are some who want every album to sound exactly like Powerslave... and that's just not going to happen. confused

No it’s not.

Also if every album sounded the same what would be the point in buying all of them? Or even getting more then one? One of the things that makes maiden so good is that they evolve over time.

I really adore Bruce, and his music. I feel he is the best male vocalist, ever, and his side projects are fantastic. smile

There are a lot of people who reviewed Bruce's solo career, (such as online reviewers) who expected it to be like Iron Maiden still. It's stupid but true...

...And I don't know why people want it to all sound like Powerslave, but if you get a chance, go look on the internet, at about 40% of the comments left on Maiden videos. You'll see "They were only good up untill powerslave", or "Maiden is dead now" or some other stupid comment.

I hate that people can't accept a band or solo artists new sound. Although it's odd that you never hear anyone say, "The Smashing Pumpkins were good until..." Almost all of their fans accept, embrace, and LOVE all of their new sounds. Apparently metal all has to sound the same or the fans flip out.

Kind of like the majorities of people in the metal forum saying how Brave New World was barely worth one good listen. I LOVED Brave New World with a deep adoring passion. Bruce didn't force his vocals, and although he's not a good singer (American Idol-wise), I still love his voice, and it well fit the songs on the CD.

The problem is everyone wants what they expect. They get their hopes up for the same sound with new lyrics, and when they get something different, they automatically hate it. (This is my opinion) That's why I always just assume they're going to have a different sound. That way even if they sound the same, I'll still like it. 3nodding

I remember a review I read right after AMOLAD came out that said something like "Fear of the Dark was the last Maiden album I enjoyed from start to finish". I think it was from Roadrunner or something.

Yeah, but Roadrunner are full of s**t, I wouldn't trust a thing they said.

I'm not too keen on Bruce's solo carreer, some of his songs seem a bit forced, and others seem like he's trying to emulate some of the Iron Maiden hits.

    He's still an awesome vocalist.

EDIT: About AMOLAD, I think it's freaking awesome.

Wah wah, It's not identical to powerslave. Those magazine reviwers are idiots, This is why I don't read metal hammer or kerrang. I very rarely read reviews of anything, they're too biased now.

I'LL decide if I like something, Not some arse in an office typing away about something he really knows very little about.

Interestingly thats what I would say, I mean I loved the stuff blaze did after FOTD but I really fell it was the last GREAT album.

Anyway I love Bruce Dickinson. Skunkworks was my Absolute Favourite album and the reast had some amazing songs on each of them all except Balls To Picasso, it bwasn't as great as the rest - This is of course my opinion.
