I would have to say the manga... because most of the time, int he anime, they screw up the designs and patterns of his character that make him unique.
It's just like in most animes; the anime designs are hardly as great as the true-blue original designs of the actual drawing.
Well... sooometimes they make his anime character look better.... but not often enough.
