I don't know if anyone has noticed or even cares, but the VAs in Pokemon have been replaced. I don't know the exact story, but I do know it has something to do with 4Kids dropping their license to the Pokemon series. Another company, Pokemon USA, took over it, and since the original VAs at 4Kids were under a contract that disallowed them to work for a different company as the same character, they had to be replaced. I think it's rather sad. Veronica Taylor, the old VA of Ash wanted to continue voicing him. Discuss.

I can't say I dislike the new voices although they sound a bit funny. I think it is sad that they did'nt allow the original VA's to continue their job since they did fit into the characters.

Even though I do hate 4kids, I hated how they treted the old Pokemon VAs. Thats the only 4kids title that actually had good VAs and now they are replacing them with other ones, one being Tohma's VA from the Gravitation english version, which really sucked. And this is like the 4th time Racheal Lillis got ripped off of her roles. First it was Ape Escape, next Comic Party, now this? No wonder all the good NYAW VAs are no longer voice acting and the new 4kids shows has new, crappy, VAs.

I read the article on it a while ago, and if I remember correctly, Pokemon USA basically said "Hey, you've been making money off of this for years. I know we have the rights to everything else, but we want this too. Yoink." And they took control of the license.
As far as changing the voice actors, I'm not sure if Pokemon USA ever had an intention of using the original VAs, but even if they did, it wouldn't have happened. Something in the 4kids voice actor contract doesn't allow them to work for other companies when a project gets shifted somewhere else. So they couldn't keep doing the voice work.
Keeping in mind that it's a children's show that the whiny b*****d mid-teenage anime purist Nazi's would barely want to watch, 4kids actually did a good job with it. It was cute and funny, and even if they changed some of the lines, so what? It's a children's show cripes sake. It's a pity that they don't have it any more.

I liked Ash's old dubber.
It is much much better.
I'm glad to know that the orginal dubbers didn't just quit though.
They were forced too! gonk
I'll also miss James' voice over! T3T
James was my favorite...and now that his voice sounds so different...

When I heard the new version I was totally surprised and unhappy with it. I guess I'm biased too, but I've seen Veronica Taylor as an absolutely amazing voice actress for such a long time. All the previous voice actors were skilled and did wonderful dubs in other animes beside Pokemon, even with badly written scripts they made it work.
Plus, I had a crush on Ash's cute scratchy voice when I was younger.

I, of course, despise 4kids with a PASSION (especially after what they did to One Piece, ;-; ), but I really can't see Pokemon with anything but the 4kids dub voices.
oO; I even refuse to watch the subtitled version. My friend brought one of the banned from TV clips to class on his iPod, once, and we made him turn the audio off because we didn't want to hear it.
...Maybe they should just kill Pokemon?
I think it got a little retarded after the first 151 pokemon, anyway. And, though I've never really been happy with the scripts for 4kids' Pokemon, I can't deny that the voice actors are really good.

I mean, really the voice cast of Pokemon were there from the beginning and now they get shafted for new guys. I feel for the original cast.

I'm probably going to get flamed out here, but I stopped watching Pokemon for such a long time when this change occured, that I didn't notice. I missed the end of Johto to the Begining of the Advanced Battles... I think? Anyway, i picked up the TV guide one day, saw Pokemon, turned it on, and found this brunette in red, and some know it all instead of Misty.
I had a crush on Misty. >_>;
