I mean,in Wutai,they kept saying "we're on vacation,we're on vacation" and such. What did they do all that time? get drunk? did rude beat up ninjas? did elena get a tan? did reno get lucky?

I think that Reno would wander in the street drunk and looking for women, and gets slapped over an over! rofl
For Rude, he might have a piercing for a new earring, or he would go shoppig to buy new sets of sunglasses, because since he's with Reno in the same party, Reno could break his sunglasses anytime, so he must always have spare ones for times like this mrgreen .

In the game Final Fantasy 7, during a side quest to Wutai, you find the Turks off duty. IN this instance, they don't even bother to fight you as, they are off duty and doing what they always do off duty. Eat, Drink, and be marry, in a bar.
