"God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, murderers of all murderers, console ourselves? That which was the holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet possessed has bled to death under our knives. Who will wipe this blood off us? With what water could we purify ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we not ourselves become gods simply to be worthy of it?
— Nietzsche, The Gay Science, Section 125, tr. Walter Kaufmann"
What is meant by this statement is not that god is physically dead but that the moral codes that revovle around his existance and no longer applicable to modern society. And that was almost 200 years ago.Why should we listen to a book that contains rules and regulations for a culture long defunct. The bok was created back whe anti-semistism was high and anti-homosexuality was high also. Why should we listen to this? This was when blacks were slaves and so were women only without the floggings. I have many christian friends. Though they arent the nicest people about minorities they are fairly good people. I'm not saying that the people who believe in this are wrong for believing in it. I'm just saying the rules set out by the Bible dont really work in modern life.
To the person who responds by saying "Nietzsche is dead: you may think your being witty, but your not.

I don't agree with many of Nietzche's theories, but I'm with him on this one. The whole world is practically a Sodom and Gomorrah now.

Nietzsche wasn't my favorite Philosopher, but he does have a good point. Why, if we have in fact killed god, it would leave an unexcuseable void which we'd need to fill with some sort of relentless religion--a belief--to keep us from killing ourselves from fear of the unknown afterlife.

I find it odd how the human race has to believe in a higher power rather than just believing and trusting in science.

Ature Manti I find it odd how the human race has to believe in a higher power rather than just believing and trusting in science. Well for fear of death is only reason i can think of. They cling to god and religion because it says "blindly follow me and you can live in heaven when you die". And so they will cling to all of those teachings and when something else pops up they lash out at it because they can no longer acept anything but what they've been told.

But, do you really lose anything when you choose to believe? Like I read somewhere, it's better to live thinking there is a God and find out in the end that there isn't one than to live thinking there is not God and find out there is one.

Well think about it this way. You find out that there is no god after spending your life in service to Him. Everything you did was for naught. The entire purpose for your existance has just been proved void in one single moment. What would you do if your entire faith was shattered in mere seconds?

And because of this, I admire scientists. Many have turned away from religion because they have found and proved many of the things in the bible to be false and have not stayed with a religion that tells them that god created it. We need to get a grip on ourselves, take a look at the facts, trust them, and believe those, not that of which hasn't been and can not be proven.

Horny b*****d. *eww btw* Isn't it disturbing how all brilliant people have these...."things". xd For example, William Shakespeare was an amazing author and is known to this day by all, and yet, he was the hornest b*****d ever, who's work I have read.
