I especially expect to see our guild leader post here. mrgreen
The character always boggled my mind in the show. Other than being generally disturbing following the escapades of a person suffering from a split personality disorder, the idea brings several questions to my mind. Which one is the real Une? Are they both her, and did she supress one part of her for so long that it split off to become a separate identity? Doesn't Treize at all feel guilty for having caused this un-natural manifestation? If so, which one is he in love with? Are they the same person? Are they different people?
Scientifically, I believe, the two personalities are considered two individuals. One personality can freely go against the will of the other, and go about doing things without the other knowing. The alternate personality can eve do bodily harm to himself and can try to rid himself of his original personality. It's pretty creepy. It's like being possessed only the posessor is part of you.
What were your thoughts on the matter? (Especially would like to hear the opions of the more-informed manga readers.(

I tend to think of Une as showing two different sides to war. I personally don't like to think of them as separate entities, but just two facets of the same person. It's almost as though both developed through her willingness to please Treize (I really don't know how to word it...). While these two sides of Une act differently from each other, they both ultimately have the same goal in mind.
I think that there wasn't any 'real Une' in this, because the two merged in the heat of the final battle that showed the glory and horror of war, which was something that both sides of Une could relate to.
... I don't have many well-developed ideas, so I don't know how much anyone can get out of this. -_-

Actually, Une has Borderline Personality Disorder. A case of it was seen in Autralian murderess Katherine Knight who was good to her husband but suffered from mood swings until, one night, she stabbed him to death, chopped him up and cooked him. Granted, Une's case isn't as bad but she's one person and not two.
But, to be honest, Une appears in Wufei's Episode Zero as her Coonel personality. She developed the Lady personality over the course of the series to please Treize and the stress may have caused her to develop her personality disorder. I mean, sh'es amilitary gal and he wants her to be a demure diplomat. Trying to be something you're not is bound to cause internal conflict and, in the case of someone like her, psychological instability.
But that's just my opinion... 3nodding

But that's just my opinion... 3nodding It's a good assumtion and based on how she pulled herself together so to speak in the end would testify to that split. Poor Une I think I feel sorry for her she was like most of the people in GW a victem of war time.
