I was bouncing ideas off of a friend one day and we noticed a correlation (similarity, likeness) of Sakura-hime, with her memories lost, to an infant in the first year of life. Here are a few evidences that would support this:
(1) She is asleep most of the time.
(2) When she is awake, it's only to eat and cover a bit of business.
(3) She has to be taught a few things, such as names and how to do things, that the rest of them knew.
(4) As she regained her memories, she became more capable and adept at the little life skills that we take for granted such as staying awake and understanding complex sentences.
If anyone has things to add or to comment on, please do. I know that it's kind of a serious subject, but it's something that I wanted to bounce off of the guild members.

...Interesting theory, and it certainly does have its merits. But why does Sakura, therefore, stay awake during the entirety of volume 3?

That's where we dare to make the assumtion that the volume takes place over a course of two days. There's the assumption that she was able to have a good night's sleep, so that the parts we see have her at least half awake. There's a part in Chapter 15 where she's tottering and falling asleep while Mokona introduces Mito Komon and himself. It's like a small child fighting a nap. This is also evident, even though in a less obvious way, throughout the volume.
I'd like to hear other theories on that as well.

It's probably just that the feathers are also the things that keep her going...her life energy, not just her memories. And that with every feather, she regains some of that life-energy.

And yet, she also becomes more focused...the more time she spends around Syaoran, the more she gets attached to him; the way an infant learns to communicate faster if it hears it's parent's voices a lot.
For example, in ep. oh what was it? 2 or 3 of the anime, shortly after waking up, Sakura goes wandering around the town with barely a thought for the rest of the gang. But slowly, she follows what they say more closely as her feather's come back.

I agree Mercury. I hadn't really thought of the recognition part. Analytical is the idea of this topic. Another thing that hit me was how she looked to Syaoran to veryify everything she said. It reminded me of my little brother when he was about three.

Seems to me like it's a leeeeeetle bit over-analytical...but I have a tendancy to do that too. redface But what else are we fans for if not to analyze and idolize? 3nodding My little 5 year old cousin was here the other day, and she wouldn't do anything unless I told her what to do...I even had to tell her to say hi to my dad, and she would...and her lack of caring about danger, though very Sakura-esque normally, is increased...I mean, she walked into a tornado of doom the same way my 3 month old kitten walked up to a poodle twice it's size and started batting at it... sweatdrop (The poodle is scared of my cat now... xd )

i'm actually surprised that she can still talk right. i mean, if she's lost virtually all her memories, shouldnt she have lost her memories from learning how to talk..?
sure, she gets memories back and all, but.... confused
anyways, will each feather memory that returns to her, so does her former nature(but "even without her memories, sakura is still...a warm human being!", like syaoran said) and some of her original strength. ne? 3nodding

Taking about walking into danger:
When she was walking towards the torando she felt something in it so that why she would walk into it. *she has a special talent *think that is what you call it* to talk to spirit of nature and prople.
*hoping that no one is bashing Sakura* I adore Sakura a lot she is one of my most favorite character.

We're not bashing her; we know why she walked into the tornado was because of her instinct, but instinct or no, if I saw a tornado coming at me and had the brain of a 5 year old, I wouldn't walk into it.. xd
Well...not exactly hime...like if anyone IRL gets amnesia, they may not have memories anymore, but they'll still remember how to eat and count and talk, they just won't remember their past. Seeing as you brought up the point, I guess that's why we're calling her "infant like" instead of saying she's a infant all out.

I agree on the recall part.
In response to Mizu_no_Tsubasa-san, there's an old wive's-tale that the pure of heart are able to commumicate with anything that has a sliver of being. Even as a grown woman, she was able to hear the things that need her purity to calm them. The fact that she lost her memories hightened the power to an extent that she was truly able to hear the full celestial intent of the tornado. It's her gift for having a mighty wizard as a father. Good point though.
In response to little_kitty_chan, the fact that she can still speak has to be brought under the assumption that the first feather she received was the feather that was most needed, ne?
Isn't it ironic that Mercury-san mentioned a kitten and that Sakura-hime's name in Oto was 'little kitty-chan'? Just a little situational irony sweatdrop .
