Then again... there is reference to him in an article I spotted discussing Gits: solid state society. It seems there are two. One that is featured in the 1st movie Ghost in the shell, whom I am to assume is a male. The second is said to appear in Solid State Society. There also are rumors that Kuze does go on to become the puppet master too, I cannot verify that info, unfortunatly.

well in the movie, the puppet master did appear to be male most of the time, even though it was genderless. It also did seem to have a big crush on motoko...until 'he' was motoko...
btw, he was forced into the female body, not its choice.

The puppet master was created on the net. He was never born from a human. He was born in the net.

The first Puppet Master is a programmed created in the net. Never really existed in plain physical world. Also he is uber awesome.

The first puppet master was a program that developed his own will and individuality.
SSS puppet master is a collective conciousness that spawned from the net. I would tell you more but that would spoil Solid state society for you. C:
Also, I like to consider the Stand Alone Complex a separate alternate universe from the first two movies and from the manga.
