I personally think it's a practial joke every little kid plays on a little kid. But, I could also be wrong. She might be real. And one day, she might come back for revenge.

On the other hand, the version i've heard of is:
There was this girl named Mary, she lives in Mirrors(because she was cursed for doing something bad)and anyone who says her name 3times gets killed.

I think the only way you would know is if you do it yourself, though since there is the possiblity of death im not going to try.

The legend of Bloody Mary is there's a ghost that opens a butcher shop and slaughters anyone who comes inside. One day a girl named Mary came inside, but somehow she escaped from the ghost, but that night when she took a shower instead of water it was blood. It's believed that now at midnight if you go into the bathroom and close the door and turn out the lights and say Bloody Mary three times she will appear. I haven't tried. It creeps me out.

I've done it, but nothing really happened, maybe I did it wrong?
I did see a face, but I think it is your eyes playing tricks on you, getting ajusted to the lack of light, although I have heard stories of people doing and and dying.

Generally speaking, most of these types of urban legends are based on some real world event. In all probability the story is based off of a murder or a string of murders involving someone named Mary.

There have been reported cases of heart attacks in front of mirrors where Bloody Mary is involved, but these are easily attributed to fright, and no necissarily supernatural events. It's easy for a person to psych oneself up.

As for the legend, many variations exist. Usually, the more graphic the details of the story, the less likely it is.

Well, the version I have heard ((and re- told)) goes like this.

wahmbulance WARNING: I found this story creepy while TYPING it out, please don;t read it if you get scared easily or if you just don't want to read my extra long post..((This story is quite scary)) wahmbulance

Once upon a time, there lived a girl called Mary. She lived with her family in a large old house by the lakeside.

One night, while Mary was preparing for bed and brushing her hair in front of her large vanity mirror, someone came up behind her and chopped her head off with an axe.

As you would imagine, Mary's clothes got quite soaked with blood. The murderer, hearing someone coming down the halway, hid Mary's body in the cupboard and placed her head on top of the vanity's mirror, where the blood slowly seeped down the glass.

Mary's parents found her body the next morning. But the blood that has dripped down the mirror refused to be taken off. Mary had been accused in the past of bieng a witch and of dabbling in the occult.

Mary's soul was trapped in the mirror for all eternity. But if you go into a room with a mirror, turn off all the lights and light a red candle and chant Mary's name three times, she will come for you...

If you are a good person, she will spare your life. But if she can see evil in your heart...She will kill you.

Yes, I have tried bloody mary before. It didn't work for me, but when you think about it- wouldn't the ghost of Bloody Mary just be a head??

I know the english verison on Bloody Mary. It's pretty much the same, you stand infront of the bathroom mirror and say Bloody Mary three times and she'll appear; you'll then die in some many days time or soemthing. I forget the ending.

But in here in england Bloody Mary is linked to Mary Queen Of Scotts. She got the nickname Bloody Mary as her favourite punishment for prisoners was to chop off their heads.

Then again that could of come from her sister Queen Elizabeth blacking her name. Either way it's a good story.

I am agreeing with Dazzler. That's the same story I've heard and it's the story I'm sticking with, being English born and all. ^.^

Isn't that the monarch who tried to switch England's national religion from Church of England back to Catholicism, after Henry VIII, Edward VI, Lady Jane?

The version I'd heard of the Bloody Mary tale, despite living in the Southeastern US, always involved the English "Bloody Mary." ... If it's the one I'm thinking of...

I personally do not know what to believe.
My friend told me that he tried it, but set those little hot wheels cars all over the place and he said after he said the name and the spinning or whatever, he said the lights went out and the cars were all moved.
So I'm a skeptic untill I find someone with enough guts to try it with me or told otherwise.

Yes that's the one. She was the siser of Queen Elizabeth I.
And as far as switching religion goes I think all our kings and queen swtiched it at one point.
