I'm having trouble getting my head around the second edition for some reason. I understand the character/discretionary points idea and how it applies to attributes and such. How many character points does it cost to raise one of my stats (like body)? The book mentions stars, what are stars? A typo of stats? I want to make a zoid character and I'd also like to join w00tness as a zombie from All Flesh Must Be Eaten. (great idea, i know.)

I'm going to assume stars is a typo. I will now type off what the Revised Second Edition BESM Core book has to say about Character advancement. On page 188, BESM Character Advancement: The point cost for increasing a Stat, Attribute, or Skill is identical to the cost during character creation. Players are encouraged to assign advancement points to Stats, Attributes, or Skills that their characters have used often. Alternatively, players can rationalize their decision to the GM should their character acquire a new Attribute or Skill. The GM can veto the idea or require the character to perform certain game activities in order to support the new acquisition of a new Attribute, however. At the GM's option, characters can use bonus Character points to remove Defects that are no longer appropriate to their character concept. The GM may allow characters with Item of Power, Personal Gear, or Mecha to "swap" existing items or mecha for items of similar point value during or between adventure if a good story rational exists. For example, if Tabitha's Hellcat fighter is inappropriate for a mission, she may visit the guard armory and switch it for a different type of mecha. The GM may require expenditure of in-game resources (favors, money, time, captured enemy gear) before this can be attempted. If characters lose equipment, the GM can make them wait a session or so to reacquire it or force them to make do with inferior equipment unless circumstances allow a replacement. For reference to my Zoids players, please ignore all mention of Skills in any of the books. Characters are to be built on Stats and Attributes alone. Thank you. ^_^

Unless of course you mean buying costs for starting stats.....then the table looks something like this. On page 166, Table 4-7, BESM Staged Stat Costs Stat Level_____________Cost (in Character Points) 1____________________1 2____________________2 3____________________3 4____________________4 5____________________5 6____________________7 7____________________9 8____________________11 9____________________14 10___________________17 11___________________20 12___________________24 Meaning that if you wanted to start your Body stat out at a 6, you would need to spend seven character points. If you wanted to raise it later to a 7, you would need to spend two advancement points.
