Is it just me or does everything in theater have a specific smell?

Not really
The curtain is usually kinda smelly
And the backstage area always smells like paint fumes from painting the sets
But no other distinctive smells

Rented Costumes have a sort of homey smell to them. It's kinda comforting.

I think tech does more than acting... tech you've got like... drills and wood and paint. It's all rather smelly.
Actors just have musty costumes.

I have to agree, tech does encounter a couple more smells than actors. I for one don't mind missing out on the aroma of "light booth". Tech noses are sometimes victim to less savory smells, like turpentine or moldy food props or liquid latex that's been left out WAY past its 'probably should have been used by now' date.

Meh, sometimes. I'm not really sure what though...
Curtains have a certain, nice musty smell 3nodding

I dunno, for me it's the costumes that do it. The musty, thick scent of old material is pretty damn potent. But it's one of those things that you either love or you hate, you know? Like horses in a barn. Love or hate.

Plywood.
It just says theatre, somehow.

There's nothing quite like the mixed smells of lumber and paint while your two best friends are making a musical number by thumping their brooms around while they're supposed to be sweeping...

To me every theatre has a specific smell but not everything in the theatre. I will always remember the smell of the first theatre I performed in 3nodding

Stage make-up smells kinda funky, too : P
But nothing says theater like the smell of freshly-painted sets
