I cut my hair. Really, really short. It's true, I look like how most people would think a lesbian looks. Now a lot of old people hate me. I've never been one to discriminate against gays, but, man, people are mean. Even some young people!

I've never been one to discriminate against gays, but, man, people are mean. Even some young people! Hah... I didn't have that problem when I had short hair through most of my childhood. But then, elementary school kids in my generation didn't know what the hell a 'heterosexual' was, nevermind a 'homosexual.' Heh. It's pretty stupid for someone to think you're homosexual because of a haircut. In fact, I can't think of many things more ludicrous. Sad but true, having short hair is still a stigma for girls. Simply ignore them. Fools that make such incorrect superficial judgements aren't worth your time.

Starlock But then, elementary school kids in my generation didn't know what the hell a 'heterosexual' was, nevermind a 'homosexual.' Heh. It was so funny in my school during sixth-grade sex ed. We were learning about sexualities and stuff and when the teacher mentioned "heterosexual," nobody (well except me pretty much) knew what it meant. They knew "homosexual," because they were the people who said "homo" as an insult, but hadn't heard anything but "straight" in everyday language. I once was called gay because I crossed my legs when I sit, so there goes my respect for the average person's brain. Not really, but seriously, I don't think he could have gotten to anybody with that logic. Crossing legs? What's next, glasses?

People who aren't gay but support homosexuality thinks it is taboo to use gay in ANY CONTEXT. But My bi friend says that as long as it's referring to a gay person in a non negative way, it's fine. Gay straight alliance seems to have the same simple misunderstandings as the US and our allies. PS no matter what you say, France rocks!

I had the same problem last year when I cut my hair. I know a guy who has really long hair and they call him gay. It's awful when people do that. Just because they don't understand other people's differences they treat them like the scum of the earth.

Huh. I'm pretty openly bisexual (I'm never telling my parents, they'd never look at me the same) and I havn't run into too much descrimination. Of course, I live in massachusettes and go to a very small school, so that could have something to do with it. I mean, I havn't got many friends or anything, but it's because i'm so... unusual, not because I'm bisexual...

Just because they don't understand other people's differences they treat them like the scum of the earth. Don't they ever stop and think that it is easier to take care of it this way? Really, its stupid. I don't get why people are so mean to another. This is how wars are started. If everyone had my personality, no one would get hurt. I have the I don't care what you do and don't tell me policy. I don't get into peoples business. Thats their job, not mine.

Yea I used to have a friend with a lesbian mom and ever since then I've never used the word "gay" or "homo" to describe any thing stupid. That got me thinking that maybe untill you actully meet a gay person, you don't really think about how it could be hurtful to use it the wrong way. smile

It's not as though everyone here is homophobic- because practically nobody is. It's just a verbal thing, like using 'like' as a filler word.

I get that a lot. I keep my hair really short (it looks good what can I say?) And I always get dirty looks. And then when a girl hits on me, she gets all hurt when I try to explain to her that I'm not lesbian... I'm fine with the names and stuff, but then hurting someone else, even if they ARE stupid, makes me feel really bad... XP
I may/not be bisexual (leaning toward the may). No clue. If I am, I will never tell my mum. She'll disown me. XP
