Now, it might be because I've had WAAAAAY too many lit. classes or some such, but has anyone else noticed the parallels between Richard and Frost?
-the main character (Anita Blake and Merry Gentry) love them
-the main character wishes that they would stop being so melodramatic
-the main character HAS to sleep around ( rolleyes ) and they throw hissy fits about it
-the readers are stuck between love and hate for them
-they're one of the main competitors for the main female's heart, the other competitor being a person that Richard/Frost can't stand
And so on and so forth. Conspiracy, anyone? -Or merely an unconscious writing style of LKH?

No, please don't say that! I really dislike Richard while Frost is my favourite character in the MG series. *covers eyes* Please don't make me start thinking about how similar they are, or then I might start hating Frost too! crying

Well, if you think about it, Frost isn't at that stage where you can hate him just yet. He's still cool. But Richard was cool in the beginning, but he turned into a major a**. Maybe Frost will turn out like that, maybe not. I'm just posing a possibility.

i think that it was just an unconcious writting thing. i do it all the time with my own personaly characters. it's just something that happens. but there are diffrences.
1. frost is alright with the fact that merry has to sleep around. richard has decided to make her jelous by sleeping around. you know he's haooy when he's with her, he's just making it harder for her and for him.
2. although he hopes to be her king he lets her do things freely while just being there when she needs him. richard is just making anita's life harder than it should be.
3. he maybe moody, but he did promice to get better at it. and you notice that richard is still being an a**.

Obviously Frost and Richard aren't the same person, but I guess what I was wondering was if anyone else thought that Frost might go down the same road as Richard. I mean, Richard was sort of fine with Anita being with Jean-Claude at the beginning, right?
I like Frost, whereas I despise new Richard. That's why I was posing this question, to see if there was any possibility of LKH pulling another Richard on us with Frost. Because to me, Frost seems like an early-stage Richard. But like I said, maybe that's just me.

i see your point about Frost being as melodramatic as Richard at first but as some pointed out, Frost is already starting to change while Richard is just, if not more, stubborn and will jeopardize almost everything for his "values". ugh. i've never really liked Richard anyway so that's probably my bias but... yeah... hopefully Frost won't go through the same thing. he is sooo much better than Richard i believe. blaugh

frost is like one of my fav characters and i don't really like richard even when he was himself back then so i don't think so besides i like the idea that Frost turned from being cold to being in LOVE heart richard is the opposite he turned from being this naive person into a cruel joke.

Hm...well, I've thought this idea before, but never really put to much into it. One of the main differences between the two is the entire killing issue, though. Unless I am rembering the character Frost wrong. But there are quite a few similarities, though I don't think they were put there to be equal to each other. ...or something.

Now that you say it I can see the simalarity between the two, butI hope Frost does not pull a Richard because at the moment I really don't like him. Go Frost Go in your quest to become king. (Tho Doyle or Minstral have a better chance at winning.)

I don't really see it between Frost and Richard but sadly after the middle of the second book in the MG series I think Rhys starts to resemble Richard in personality, Mr. 'I'm a tight-a** uptight p***k because I got issues' kinda deal going there or that might just be me seeing that but in the end of the second Merry even says he's not the happy laughing-lover he once was, that he'd changed

I agree ^-^ In fact you can make parolels between all of Anitas guys and Merrys. Wile they are not intirely the same they do act kinda simular. Although I think Merry will have sex with more guys then Anita.
