Ok... now maybe it's just me... but I've always wondered... You know when you're talking to friends/acquaintances on any sort/type of IM program... do you, or do you not have a crapload of trouble attempting to say something after your friend/acquaintence *shrug*'s at you? I know it sounds crazy, but that's always been a popular conversation ender for me... I mean, it's like Quote: "So, you write poems?" "I've written a couple, yeah" "Got any good ones?" "Sure, well... I got one or two... here" *Posts poem* *Reads* "Yeah, it's alright." "Well... I know I've read better... I suppose..." *Shrugs* ...and it's like... that ends the convo right there... I mean, instead of responding, I had to force myself to close the IM window without any chance of further discussion... I mean, it'd definitely be easier to continue the convo if they at least ADDED some actual speech to the *shrug* comment... but that's all they give me, and I'm sick of it gonk

I suppose it depends on the context, but I guess it can end a conversation sometimes, though I haven't really had that problem myself.

A shrug can also mean 'I don't know' and when you use it in a different context it doesn't effect the conversation at all.
Ex, from today actually: How much does it cost to go bowling?
*shrug*

I suppose context has alot to do with it... but I think mainly that the shrug is just.... it's really demotivational, if you know what I mean... neutral Kinda like...
"Well, he/she's stopped putting effort into the convo... why should I?"

Nuh uh. I use it a lot for times when I don't have an answer, not because I don't want to talk about it anymore. Its a way of showing bewilderedness beyond just 'I don't know' because thats just an emotionless statement... or something
