Tim Wessel Its funny, Kevin Smith did Jersey Girl to show the movie companies that that he CAN make a real movie, he just, doesnt want to! mrgreen Well he proved it quite well... it still was obviously Kevin Smith but it had what critics like ebert and roeper stressed call "substance"... I feel all his movies have substance... if you really listen to them... (well maybe not J&SBSB but that's pur parody) I think Dogma proved that as well because it was a sound criticism of Catholicism... even though it was also funny. That's how most of his films are... Clerks makes staments about people who hate their life and/or job and had intelligent discussion. Mallrats lacked substance and it was kinda teen movieish (I love it still) but there are still conversations and themes in it that have substance. Chasing Amy is loaded with social commentary which is why some Smith fans that only like the most vulgar of the humor in his movies don't like it... I however do... I think the main difference in all of the movies (esp. Jersey Girl) is the balance of vulgar humor, heart and politics. Jersey Girl is just more heart than the others.

I saw Dogma, then Mallrats and Chasing Amy on tv so it was all edited. And then a few episodes of Clerks: the animated series then Clerks the movie, then the rest of the episodes of the show. And then Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back came out and then I watched it. And then all over again in order and then again out of order and then again and again. At some random point in time, An Evening with Kevin Smith, then Jersey Girl. And then I heard of Vulgar the Clown but I still have not seen it . . . . . . Yeah, I love Kevin Smith. Bwee.

Tim Wessel Jersey Girl, I liked the least, but I still kinda liked it.. I know what you mean. I loved the rest of his movies. But, Jersey Girl didn't really do it for me. I think it was because it was so mainstream. Anyway... I think I started out with Dogma and then I watched Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Then, it was Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy. in that order. I own the whole J&SB set with the exception of Chasing Amy. And that's just because I haven't had the chance to pick it up yet xp Oh... and then I saw he Animated series. Just got those out on DVD from the library. I'm thinking of picking it up for myself and Clerks X.

My first was Mallrats. 3nodding I think it was on HBO when I was younger or something. I just remember my bro watching it and falling in love with Jay and Silent Bob heart It wasn't until after I hooked up with Bolweevil did I become more educated into the ViewAskewniverse. But I think after that I saw Dogma, Clerks, then Chasing Amy in that order. Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back came out to theaters the first summer he and I were dating so that was a deffinite perk 3nodding Then since I work in a crappy video store I was able to tell him when an Evening with Kevin Smith was coming out 3nodding
Just as a plug... Doogal hits shelves this coming Tuesday, May 16th. It's a computer animated kids movie, but Kevin does voice one of the characters.

Chamorita I know what you mean. I loved the rest of his movies. But, Jersey Girl didn't really do it for me. I think it was because it was so mainstream. Actually, the movie wasn't very mainstream at all if you consider that it could have been more of a romantic movie but the relationship between the chick and Affleck aren't centralized into the plot. It seems to complicate things, even. But the point is the father-daughter relationship, which has been explored by other more "mainstream" movies but a classic Hollywood pic would say at the end if the couple gets married or that crap. The main character--Affleck-- was an obviously imperfect and struggling male figure while his daughter seemed to have the patience with him while he figured out just how to be a good parent. Jersey Girl didn't have the same fart/drug/gay humor that we all love so much. And no one, including the "mainstream" public seemed to fancy it very much, it still showed that Kevin Smith has range and he's not just a one-trick pony. And that's my two-cents.

Let's see...
My dad and I snuck in a theater to see Dogma...
I bought the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back dvd...
I watched Clerks on Cinnemax, I think.
I bought Chasing Amy...
Bought Clerks X, Clerks the Animated Series, and bought An Evening with Kevin Smith.
Bought Mallrats 10th Anniversary Edition.
Then I rented Jersey Girl.
Waiting to buy the special edition of Jersey Girl DVD with extended version I heard about.
I personally loved Jersey Girl. I mean, it showed that Kevin Smith wasn't all about the d**k and Fart jokes and all. It was real sweet with great humor. Not it's fault that Gigli ruined anything that Bennifer were in D=

Dogma came first because some friends had rented it and raved about it ... plus they needed my Catholic knowledge to explain some of it.
After Dogma came Mallrats, off of TV. sweatdrop Then rented shortly after. smile
I'm pretty sure next came Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, because it was in theaters.
Then my friends and I did the New Jersey Trilogy one day during the summer, so I saw Clerks and Chasing Amy finally.
Then came Jersey Girl into theatres and I saw that.
I can't wait for Clerks 2! xp

Well I saw Chasing Amy when my mom was watching it on TV and I was like "Hmm that's cool" and liked it. Then at some point inbetween that and Dogma I saw Mallrats but I don't really remember much of it. So then I saw Dogma when they showedd it on Comedy Central and fell in heart I saw like, 20 minutes of Clerks shortly after, maybe what, six months? Then I saw the Afroman video and was all "OMFG JAY AND SILENT BOB OMFG!" A while after that, I saw Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back on COmedy Central and thought that was some of the funniest s**t. And then, when I got Direct TV they were showing Clerks alot on one of the movie channels, I think it was IFC so I watched the whole thing, like 5 times in two weeks and loved it, during that time I also saw An Evening With Kevin Smith on IFC. I have yet to see Jersey Girl. I don't think it really matters that I saw them out of order, because I still enjoyed them alot. Now I have a neat Clerks skin for my Winamp. cool
