There are some cosplayers that modify costumes for modesty. (i.e. Dizzy's Battle suit and etc.)

There are some people that say "Why cosplay the character if you aren't as accurate as possible?"

There are others that say, "Why go out with your butt exposed if you don't want to but still want to cosplay that character?"

Personally, being the conservative that I am, I think modifying for modesty is no biggie, especially if it's a gravity defining character like chocolat misu and such. Any other opinions?

I prefer not modifying something. If you dont want to wear something, get a flesh colored body suit or something. Otherwise you may not be fit to wear the costume.

My Pricness Ai skirt... for my 2nd costume Falling From Heaven has a VERY short skirt in the front and my mom probably wont let me walk out of the house with it on, so I compromised with her and I wear short shorts on underneath it. <3

I agree that in most cases you can have a fleshtone bodysuit underneath, but it really depends on the person. Cosplay really is a case by case basis...well, for me at least.

Im a stickler for accuracy, and this year Im going as Mamimi from FLCL and Mamimis skirt is rather short, so Im thinking of wearing a pair of shorts underneath.

I'm more than conservative actually. Mean as this may sound, I think people should respect the manga/anime/character that they love. Meaning please only cosplay if you vaguely have the same body type and can pull it off without scarring ppl. I am NOT a fan of +200lb hairy men cosplaying as Mai gonk

it depends, if you have the body for something, more power to you. if you don't feel comfortable, and thus wear shorts or leotard, etc that's ok as well, but as Lemon JJ said, please no 200lbs+ Mai cosplayers. sweatdrop (just a personal opinion mind you)

myself, I've worn a skin-tone leotard for Jin (YYH; the only kind of covering for his upper torso is 2 sashes, and I'm a girl so...;;) I'm also a strong believer in biker shorts ; D but again, these are just personal opinions based on what makes me feel most comfortable when cosplaying a character. ^-^;

I have no problem adjusting for modesty and have done so myself (not too major, just enough to make me feel comfortable.) Heck, sometimes perfectly accurate doesn't look as good as making a few modifications for the real world, gravity, etc. =)

I made a Baiken (from Guilty Gear) costume, and I plan on wearing it like you would a normal kimono, not the cleavage-tastic way she does. I don't care if it's inaccurate, I'd rather be inaccurate then look like a slut in front of thousands of desperate, perverted fanboys.

I don't usually care if people in indecent costume, but for gosh sake, PLEASE don't go around in your underwear at a con. I saw someone do this, and I was just shocked because she was hanging out with a young relative dressed as a little Sasuke. So yeah... alter seems a good idea to me if the costume is too much of a shocker.

All I have to say is that yes accuracy is important, but if your a 300 pound person that wants to cosplay Felicia from Dark Stalkers then you should really reconsider. We all enjoy good cosplays, but no one wants to see your a** or any other body part that hasn't seen the light of day out for the whle world to see.

So in light of that, if you desperatly want to cosplay a skimpy outfit modifying it is the best way to go. Especially since there are children at these conventions. Please keep that in mind.

you can use something like beige zentai underneath.

in fact there was a manga about that, how a girl tried to avoid posing nude for art class that way...

Unless I'm going to be showing something that would have a black censored bar over it on TV, I don't alter for modesty.

Not because I don't think it'd be innacurate otherwise, but for another reason: Why?

Cons are for adults as much as they are for kids, probably more so.

If you're a real adult, you should suck it up and quit whining unless someone is actually committing public indecency.

Cosplaying Al from Last Exile, I made the dress a tad bit longer - not all the way to the floor but about midway between floor and my knees, and wore knee socks (I couldn't get boots in time) that are black so I could cover all my leg. If there's one thing I hate showing it's my leg.

So yeah, kind of altered that a bit.

I cosplay as Sasuke almost every year. Without fail.

But I am tired of dressing traditionally for there are pretty
much seas of black and blue outfits, all with the same mission
in mind. To be the best Sasuke out there...

But I am not into the traditional anymore. I try my best to
change it up as much as I can, to the point where it is almost
not even what youd expect. So I totally agree on the count
that I dont feel comfortable being similar to the others that
attend. That's modesty right? Haha...

Well anyway. This year is only the same.
I am pretty much starting from scratch and making it my own.

Fun right? ^__^"

I think it's up to the individual. If you're not comfortable showing that much skin then by all means, alter it. Also, like what some of the others have been saying, do keep in mind kids also attend these functions and be considerate of them.

If you really want to be a certain character that shows a lot of skin or has something really short, do use something like a flesh colored cover so as not to accidentally show something indecent (if not, double sided tape can be your friend). If all else fails, try to figure out another character to be. If it were adults only I really wouldn't care if your costume was a bit bare or something as long as you don't run around naked. eek

I personally want the costumes to be as accurate as possible but in the mean time I choose characters that have outfits that make me feel snazzy, comfortable and look somewhat like me. However, because of how picky and short I am, that's pretty hard. Do whatever feels right to you and remember, you're not the only one at the conventions, but then again, these are only my opinions.
