It is just the name of a magazine, Gothic & Lolita Bible.
If you are offended by that, I think that lolita isn't really your cup of tea, since espcially the Gothic Lolita style uses cross, nun and coffin motifs very often.

The use of the word "Bible" is only in the name of the magazine, there is no religious connotation to it. (I believe there is a thread in the Art Posting sub-forum that can give you examples of the magazine) Some branches of the lolita style do include some religious motifs, such as the cross symbols, but it is used as more of a design for fashion rather than connecting to religion. An offense is not meant to be made. There are a lot of fashion styles out there, not just lolita, that use images such as crosses, skulls, angels and so forth merely as images, not necessarily to be pointing at any deeper meaning.

o_<...... The Gothic and Lolita Bible isn't evil. It's named that because it's basically a how-to and a life structure in the form of a magazine, a book, so therefore it's like a bible so it's labeled so. It's not evil, it's anything but that. Instead it's very organized and cute actually. There are symbols such as crosses, skull, wings, angels, etc used on items of clothing and accesories but that is it, it's just on clothing to look nice nothing more. There's nothing religious about it or lolita for the matter so there's nothing to worry about.

I agree that this guild is so that people can learn more about the fashion and stuff.. But something like this makes me feel people should really study more before joining it. It's like joing the KKK because they dress like ghosts, and think ghosts are cool... Yet you don't understand the rest of what's going on ninja Here's a site you can look at pictures http://www.blue-period.fsnet.co.uk/egl.htmlgothic & lolita bible is a FASHION BOOK. Just like Vogue, or W, InStyle, or any other high fashion magazine book thing you can think of. but if you feel Vogue is too anti-christ, you might want to withdraw from this guild. xd I'm not trying to be rude to you or anything.. . Just learn more about something before you go joining things.

I feel like an elitist b***h saying this, but this guild kind of doesn't have much expertise in it. Like, people ask about the basic stuff, or are not really lolita in the sense that everyone seems to belieive that sewing lace onto it turns it to loli magically... sorry, I am in a rantish mood. Sometimes I just feel kind of lone here, since I dress lolita weekly, know a ton about the style, can speak (and read, to a certain extent) japanese and have been interested in this for more than two years. Kind of makes me sad to see these kind of posts razz

Kind of makes me sad to see these kind of posts razz I don't take offense of it this post. I found it sadly funny. But if you're new into Lolita, or anything of the matter, I would learn more about it than just jumping into guilds and stuff. I would love to dress lolita more often. I don't have the money to buy ANY clothes lately, or even money to make clothes. I have about 3 cute skirts I can wear, but they are $50 a piece, and I don't want to wear them out.. The lace on one is already starting to come off. If I could wear lolita everyday, I would... I so would. heart It's just the matter of money, and not much to work with at the time. sweatdrop And adding lace to everything does not automatically make it lolita. At times it makes it tacky. x.x

Oh gosh...right if you know this much about Lolita then i am afraid that you could be putting yourself in a bad situation...so i recomend you either go out and learn something about the fashion or leave the guild now. If more stupid (i'm sorry, but this is a stupid question) questions like this are asked, then i'm afraid i will have to take action against it. This is one the the most active Gothic Lolita guilds on Gaia, we are tyring to improove it as much as possible...
I agree that there aren't many 'real' Lolita's on here, but give people a chance...for instance i have one Lolita skirt which i made and a Putumayo top i recieved the other day..and i've been into Lolita for a few years now. It takes time. I live and breathe Lolita..just i may not look it.
Anyway, i'm in a foul mood and i'm going to move this post to the FAQ. This is a warning, don't post any more silly questions without researching or looking around the forum. This forum is easy to navagate as it is...Thanks.

I've been studying it for almost 3 years now (independantly, sadly no one in my area knows it to teach me...) so I can only speak a bit and have a lot of trouble reading (I've got a penpal in Japan, I love translating her letters, but it takes me awhile....)

Ne, Nanie-chan, I've been using this book series that works really well, but there's no instructions for the exercises, but it's easy to figure out. They have a teacher editions of the books but I wouldn't waste the money.
It's the Japanese for Young People series. They sell them on Amazon. 3nodding
They're full of pictures, and they aren't all text and stuff, but you need to learn hiragana and katakana to read it after the first couple chapters, but there's a kana book that goes with the first book, and a kanji one that goes with the second, and so on.
They've worked the best for me.
Hope that was helpful

I don't think anyone should really be saying that someone else doesn't know enough to be joining a guild. Personally, I joined so I could learn more about lolita. I knew of the fashion, but not magazines and books related to it. When you live in Canada and you're a new lolita(wannabe) it's hard to find out about this stuff.
I was really glad I found this thread, but now I have a feeling like I'm unwanted. I love the fashion but had nowhere else to learn about it. I chose to join because I liked how friendly everyone seemed and that this was a community, not a Wikipedia article that can't answer any questions you might have or whatever. I'm kind of disappointed about your attitudes. sad
Anyways, despair, thanks for posting this so I could get answers to a question constantly in my head, too. I kept seeing the word everywhere. I'm not religious, so I wasn't worried about that, but I had no idea what the Gothic & Lolita bible was. (The general idea of a book was there, but still. Not the point.)
