Introductions

Hello and welcome to the course. Although this is an English class, think of it as an art class. The art we will be reviewing is literature; there will also be some films, videos, and illustrated material. Throughout this course, you will learn about different literature styles and techniques. and you will get to evaluate how those techniques are used in selected texts. In addition, you will grow and develop your ability to critically analyze texts, and to construct arguments about your interpretations.

Discussion tasks:
question What is your most recent experience with critical analysis and critical thinking?
question This is an intensive writing course. What is your comfort level with writing essays about literature?
question What are you currently reading?
question What is your favourite creative text -- such as a novel, memoir, poetry collection...?
