Lady Elizabeth Jane Grey ..........................................................................................................................
Bradgate House hadn’t been so alive since christmas, as today the countryside estate was bustling with people from the inside out. As one could bear witness to the home just teeming with the bodies of everyone getting ready for this momentous day in the early summer of 1883. Maids were sweeping the floors, while the cooks were slaving over their stoves, and the gardeners were working the impressive grounds to pluck any wayward weeds from the soil before they ravaged the picstque landscape that the home were known for. Everyone practically made themselves so busy, in preparation for their honorary guest. Well almost everyone...since in one of the fifty two rooms that adorned this mansion, the eldest daughter of the lord of Suffolk, wasn’t even making herself occupy in the slightest. No, she propped up on her bed reading a book like today wasn’t special. She wasn’t even dressed for the day….it look she hadn’t even taken her bath yet.
“Lizzie, you are not even out of bed yet,” Clara, the lady maid who served the young mistress for years, bemoaned as she opened the door to see her charge on her belly with her legs in the air reading like an awestruck child with an imagination and no common sense that she couldn’t act like this on all days. “Are you aware that your father and mother will birth a literal cow if you’re late today? I thought you could recognize that, at least. '' The servant approached one of the sides of her mistress bed in a mood that despite her complaints, Elizabeth was still consumed with her novel. So Clara reached over and gave a hard tug on a fickle red curl on top of Elizbeth’s head. The pain seemed to gain her attention as the beautiful redhead whipped her head from her book to Clara with pools of tears starting in her bluish-gray eyes.
“Ahh..Clara. I heard you when you walked in.” The young mistress assured Clara, as the maid let go of her hair. Thank goodness. Elizabeth thought when she ended up closing her book and ushering herself up straight to look at her worry ‘sister’. Clara had always been like an older sister and like any eldest sibling, she got worried fairly easily. “I assure you that my mother and father will not make any scene today now that William is coming home.” Elizabeth said as she turned to walk over to her vanity. Her feet shuffling against the dark wood of the floor. “I don’t know why everyone is fussing over him. He doesn't even like it here.”
“Because he is going to the Master of this home regardless of your sibling bickering or his attitude..” The maid followed Elizabeth over to the vanity and stood behind her in the mirror, thinking of ideas for her appearance. “I’m thinking curls and that cream dress hmm.. And we have three hours before Mrs. Heywood comes looking for us.”
It was nearly four hours later, when the two girls descended down the grand staircase into the foyer at a lighting pace. Praying to god, that Mrs. Heywood wasn’t at the bottom with the most sourest look on her face. But to luck, the old housekeeper was standing in her place and everyone was taking their place outside to greet William. The two stopped on the base of the stairs to receive a mouthful. “Clara...Lady Elizabeth. Do you two have any concept of time? The future master of this house returns today and you two want to dilly dally around for another hour?” the elder woman said with such detest in her voice.
Elizabeth had the thought to defend Clara to tell Ms. Heywood not to be mad at Clara. But father would never allow it. The Heywood had been working for their family since he was a boy and he had loved them dearly as Mr Heywood worked as their butler and Mrs, Heywood was the housekeeper. He even said that she was a second mother to him. So they followed her silently out of the door to take their places. Yet as Elizbeth stepped out of the doorway of Bradgate, a carriage slowly came to stop in the front drive and whoever was inside was about to step out. Leaving the girl to freeze in place at the center of everyone and everything.

Young Master William Mason Grey
The doors were opened for him by the footmen and he promptly pulled himself out of the carriage with ease standing tall in the afternoon sun he glanced as he 'beloved' family his first expression immediately went to the one who brought attention to herself his sister Elizabeth he found himself somewhat dumbfounded by her growth and beauty which seemed to have blossomed very well she didnt even seem like a member of the family with her red hair; Looking like the famous Virgin Queen herself with grace and beauty it was hard not to stare he approached as he approached he removed the top hat from his head showing his adoring dark curls which flickered in the light the different hues of brown and natural redhighlights instead of a blue-toned he had more warmth in his dark hair then cool-toned; He smiled at his family his eyes shifting to his father as he turned his intense gaze from his sister to the man how was handing him his inheritance,"Welcome home my dear boy!", his father said holding out a hand for a firm handshake a must among men in social events, he gave his father the thus well deserved shake and then turned to the women whom adopted him as a son his stepmother; Elizabeth's mother was a beauty to behold herself a stunning Golden lady but she could not compare to William gypsy enchanting dark haired mother who was the first mistress to the Lord of Suffolk. He allowed her to warmly hug him and place an affectionate kiss onto each side of his cheek while he glance over to Elizabeth once more to see her reaction his eye shifting down to see a pair of twins with nearly identical state of dress approach him for he would have greeted Elizabeth next if it were not for the children; As his lady mother allowed him to be freed he had to turn his attention to the two youngest lowering himself to their level as they bombarded their eldest brother with kisses on the cheek and hugs of excitement, "We have missed you so william!", says one,"Will you be staying long brother?", asks the other,"Of course by the satisfaction of our father", said their brother qiuetly to the girls before standing he offered to take Elizabeth's hand into his own leaning forward as he kissed it,"Dear sister..", he said in a calm voice his eyes shifting over her face staring intensely into her eyes, "It has been to long Elizabeth", he told her letting go of her hand as he waited for her to approach and hug and kiss him with affectionate sisterly love;

Lady Elizabeth Jane Grey ..........................................................................................................................
Even since she could remember her eldest brother, Elizabeth knew that Willam was a person who commanded attention. He always held a quality about himself, beyond being Lord Henry Grey’s son, that attracted many people to him. If she could be recalled correctly even when they were still very young, Willam had always been spoiled by every single female who ever stepped foot inside of Bradgate House including mother’s kind-hearted friends. That had been so annoying indeed, especially when he spent the better part of his childhood torturing her for his own wicked amusement.
And things didn’t seem quite different as Willam’s foot stepped onto the ground of the family countryside manor after six long years in London, and he arose from the carriage for everyone at the estate to see his magnificent return. There was, of course, the sounds of whispers from the servants on the servants about the heir. Mostly snickering from the young scully maids who just started their duties and knew nothing but the name of her brother. It was understandable because as he walked out, he caught her attention too. Not the lanky boy in his adolescence anymore, Willam’s appearance was that of a man from where she stood on the staircase. A man who held himself tall and confident with sparkling blue eyes when she caught his attention for a moment. He looked like a young father, particularly when he took off his top hat to reveal his deep chestnut hair as he ushered himself to the side where father, mother, and the twins were.
“I can’t believe that master Willam is so dashing. He must be spoken for back in London. ” Elizabeth heard one of the blushing maids whisper to another because she was in earshot. And the redhead was tempted to gossip, rather than greet her brother. It wasn't like she hated her brother, but she didn’t want to pretend their childhood didn’t happen at all. However, the vile Ms. Heywood gave her a stern glare and she was off down the step before father turned back and saw her subtle act of defiance.
Mother was kissing both of William's cheeks as the young lady approached the rest of her family. It was then William looked up and saw her standing there behind their sisters. A little smile danced across her lips before he ended the loving embrace between him and their mother. He seemed almost giddy to see me? Lizzie thought as the twin tackled him without warning, showering him with kisses and hugs. Alice and Oliva were only five years old the last time he visited and are remarkably fond of their older brother. Which is quite troubling. However, this display of affection did buy her some time until William got up from getting on his knees and proceeded to walk over to her. It would be with a simple hello that William would take her into his and place a gentle kiss on it. He would looked at her so earnestly in the eyes that she could feel heat behind her cheeks
Was he toying with her again? Elizabeth gently removed her hand from his and placed it down alongside of her, before looking at him again. She plastered a smile to her face, not wanting to make a scene. “Everyone has missed you.” She said simply as if she was being careful with her thoughts and words.
..........................................................................................................................
(O.O.C): I thought William wasn't going to have desires at the start, but develops them over time from seeing her.. watching her and constantly seeing red haired women in his dreams/imaginations. Also, Can we change the time period closer to the civil war or shortly after it?

Young Master William Mason Grey
William watched her tensive actions wondering why she was so...? He couldn't describe it she seemed like this whole affair was pulling teeth for her he supposed she never got over their little sibling rivalry where they both craved attention he recalled she was rather jealous of him because he was the important one in the family though, he supposed it must have been rough on her not considering her feelings at the time of his youth he always thought she should had to endure because she was a woman; His concept of the female emotional standards not important at that time.
He gave her a graceful smile and patted her shoulder fondly,"Of course sister", he said, as if he knew this was true as his father said,"William just making it before dinner? I expected you here alot sooner!", said the man whisking his finger back and forth at the male as he pushed his son along front he family as they talked,"Well You know Aunty.. she always want to make me most welcomed... It seems she feared to send me home hungry", he chuckled remembering his elaborate breakfast from earlier that day; They walked towards the dining hall,"Supper wont be about for another hour or so my dear boy why not get some afternoon tea?", he asked his son as Willam nodded,'Of course father", he told him graciously as the man shooed him away william gave a small bow turning on his heel and headed toward his old room
in which had been changed about removing the children toys out of the way and putting a larger bed now that he was big enough for it.. there was barely anything there that would have reminded him of his adolescent years.. taking in a deep breathe he went about changing into a evening suit which would be more relaxing for himself and giving him more freedom, Upon exiting his room he seen a maid who was on her way to check in on rooms,"Young master wiliiam", she said meekly giving a soft curtsy as he smiled at her,"Good day", he said coyly giving her a heartthrob wink and headed away as the maid had to cling to the wall as to not swoon from the feeling in her legs;
Before entering the garden to serve tea with his family he stopped in the hallway to adjust himself before a mirror gazing as the blue-grey eyes that stared back he ran a finger through his hair adjusting himself before being presented; Williams anxiety would be more relative if he had let it show but he was much more likely to fake a smile than to present a real one, he had to be seen as the perfect brother, son, and heir or he feared his father would think otherwise for his inheritance once he obtained it he knew that he would be safe for life; Checking that his smile didn't show his true feelings he exited out on the Terrance and headed over towards his father who was already sitting and fixing up his tea in the way he always took it 2 sugar lumps and a dash of cream;
Sitting opposite of his father he splashed some cream into his tea and took up 4 sugar lumps for himself sipping on the hot tea served"The garden has improved since I have last been home" he commented as they gazed out on the backyard he noticed the array of roses everywhere as his father told him"Ah yes a few summers project for your sister Elizabeth she gets rather bored in the country so I gave her a 'job' " his father chuckled at the word as william gave a soft laugh; He was sure it was some scheme to prove to father that she was ever the 'perfect' lady;

Lady Elizabeth Jane Grey ..........................................................................................................................
Keeping a pretty little smile upon her face, Elizabeth waited for her dearest brother to get through the formalities of greeting her. They both knew what it would be like if they hadn't…. The lecture awaiting for them both by their father if it looked like they were not getting along. Although, as William gave her hand back and stood up straight again the ginger haired beauty could not help but notice a twitch of emotion in his ocean blue eyes. Surely he is not upset that I am not over the moon . Lizzie asked herself, her eyes following William's saunter over to their father. It would be too foolish for him to think that his arrival would remedy any situation from their childhood. He, indeed, appeared to be a man traveling back home, but his actions would speak for themselves if he truly grew out his old bratty behavior.
“Ohh….papa. Can Alice and I esort William to the terrace,” Oliva’s delicate voice interrupted Lizzie’s attention and the entire fatherly conversation as the twins made their way in between the two men without a care for manners. They were just so excited to see their mysterious brother that had been nothing more than a shadow all their lives.
“Can we please,” Alice injected for another good measure. It would be a hard thing to deny two young girls’ request, especially in front of all the staff at Bradgate House. And so Elizabeth saw her father nod once. With quick little hands, Alice and Oliva took one of William's hand each and proceeded on running up the front’s steps, toggling the grown man behind them. Luckily, the staff was quick enough to move before anyone got hurt.
““Girls!” Elizabeth heard mother, Lady Margaret Grey, called after the two as they were already in the house before the last syllable was out of the woman’s mouth. The woman followed them into the house. And with that, everyone else followed the lady of the house lead.
As the whole family walked the house, Elizabeth kept quiet while she gazed out the huge clean windows that the maids had worked so hard on. She was in no mood to pretend like she cared about the university’s life of William. Beside Alice and Oliva was giving him an earful about their first piano lessons with Miss Phillips, the new governess that father hired. How she was pretty, kind, enjoyable to them both. William smiled and said something, but from her distance Lizzie could not hear him. And then, William took his leave to his old room. Probably to refresh himself while the rest of the family headed out onto the terrace for afternoon tea.
“You are to be on time, Elizabeth.” Her father said in a stern tone at the head of the table, as several kitchen maids came out to fix the tea to how they preferred it. Even for the empty seat beside herself, which was for William if he even journey back
“Yes, Father.” Elizabeth quietly responded, knowing how her father loved to be right with every situation. A single kitchen maid brought her a plate of two freshly scones and an assortment of jam and jellies that she had requested. In the excitement of the morning the ginger haired lady didn’t find time to eat breakfast.
“Henry, mustn't we punish Lizzie for the tiniest thing on such a day?” ” Mother chimed in as she leaned over to peck father’s cheek. She was always the voice for Father. She was indeed the one who raised all the children with love. Father could be quite the onlooker, only making sure that every one of them were prepared for the harsh realities of the world.
“I guess not Dear,” responded the lord of Suffolk to his wife about letting the topic go. Besides as he did, William stepped out of the house with a new pep in his step.
He gracefully passed bashful maids with a proper hello before taking a seat by Elizabeth and on the opposite sides of their parents. He went on to prepare his tea with four big lumps of sugar and some cream. Quite a lover of sweet things, I'll say. Elizabeth made a note as she went on spreading some jam upon her scone. Meanwhile, her brother began a hasty conversation with his father about the rose garden she oversaw two years ago. Father commented her boredom was to be blamed for the project. But what should she fill her days with if she couldn’t go out in town or the city. “I wasn’t aware that botany was any interest to you.” A slip of the tongue from Lizzie’s lips, aim at her brother, as she was anticipating the slightest comment about the ’horrendous’ state of the garden in his own eyes.

Lady Elizabeth Jane Grey ..........................................................................................................................
The gaze of her father, Lord Henry Grey, from the other side of the dinner table after her little quip about Willam felt nothing short than a verbal assault upon her character. Elizabeth knew her father very well over the years, and knew that this look he gave to her could be translated to a number of things. However, every translation can be synonymous with the command ‘be quiet, Elizabeth’ from him. Her father was never a fan of petulance. The irony of her brother being the apple of her father’s eye did not pass her by, but daughters meant business opportunities with others in the future. Sons meant only legacy. Therefore, a lord’s daughter must behave accordingly, starting in her very home with her own family. Taking a deep breath and out, the redhead turned only slightly in her chair to the right side of her, where her brother was sipping his tea and conversing with their father about the buck that he had killed earlier just for this occasion. “Excuse me father, but I want to apo--logize to Willam. I should’ve never assumed that your interests haven’t matured since you went away,” The young woman mustered up to say before turning straight again, looking down at her resting hands upon her lap. Elizabeth can feel her teeth grind as she forces every word of that apology out from between her lips. Why did she need to be the forgiven one? Not when Willam had a long history of tormenting her. He never apologized and he was sent away before any punishment could be served!God…why do I sound so childish. He brings it out of me. She bemoaned to herself, turning her gaze upon William as he continued talking …not too much because he would love nothing more to get under her freckled skin. A grin peered at his face as he looked so happy at being here. Why are you here? Go back to London! You were so happy there. Elizabeth thought these words that she wanted to say to her brother if she could. She knew these words sounded juvenile in her head, even more juvenile if she was going to say them out loud for everyone to hear. She would be a child throwing a tantrum over something uncontrollable, and William would want nothing more than to see her cry and roll over on the floor. That’s why when every opportunity arose, Elizabeth was going to be nice to her brother in order to not let him control her emotions. ‘Kill them with kindness and bury them with a smile’ Nan says. And the opportunity arose faster than expected, as a single maid journeyed out of the kitchen and walked in the direction of their mother Margaret and whispered a message into her ear, as Willam delivered his homecoming speech with so much confidence. The mistress of Bradgate House waited until her son was done to announce her own message or request in the case. “Willam, Elizabeth can take you on the tour of the gardens if you would like that.” “Why?” Elizabeth blurted out in the midst of drinking her tea, causing some of its liquid to come from her nose. This earned a laugh from the twins who thought the whole scene was so funny. “I mean---what about dinner?” It was almost dinner, but beyond that she was not ready to be nice to William. Why couldn’t their holy god couldn’t give her a day or two before this new goal of hers. “The chef is not done with the buck that your father killed” Margaret finally announced to the table, gazing at her husband. Upon hearing her mother’s reasoning, Elizabeth gazed at her father too at the head of the table. He was running a hand through his graying hair, soothing himself. She realized why the maid went to her mother. Disappointing father today was not an option. Thus, Elizabeth wiped her nose with her napkin before standing up and turning to Willam in his seat. “The roses are supposed to be lovely in the summer….” “Wait Brother!” Lizzie's voice belted after William as he sped up his walking after Elizabeth offered him and started her own journey on a tour of Bradgate’s grounds. He was well over 6 feet tall, compared to her petite statute, and he knew that his gait could cover more distance. He seemed to only slow down when the gardener started to stare because of all the complaints. Looking at him with flustered cheeks from hurry and wind blown hair, Elizabeth looked at a shocked look while he grinned. "Do you love to torment me?" She asked, stopping and closing her eyes, taking deep breaths in and out. Opening her eyes, she saw his back as he was walking off. This time, Elizabeth caught up before he got away...again. “So how is Uncle and Auntie fairing in London? I heard that the city is bustling with activities to do. Are you sure that you don’t want to go back to university?” Elizabeth ran off question after question, hoping that one would grab Willam’s attention and fill the silence.

Lady Elizabeth Jane Grey ..........................................................................................................................
Elizabeth only grew more anxious with every step she took with her brother as he did not speak to her at all. Truly not even a groan, or a grasp. He just looked in front of them on this narrow pathway he had chosen for them, and the redhead entirely believed that she was talking to a brick wall. Who was she trying to please, because a brick wall at least echoes back to someone? William did not give her even that courtesy, and Lizzie simply did not know why? Her brother has always been quite cold and distant, ever since she could remember. She could still remember all the times she tried to play with him, bringing dolls to his room only to be met with grimaces and shouts to get out of his room. Furthermore, on the rare occasions, he did allow for her presence inside his room; it always ended with her crimson locks being pulled. She always thought it might’ve been about her not being a little brother. Boys loved to roughhouse and such. Yet, Oliva and Alice were only met with gentle kisses on their forehead. The redhead did not necessarily believe that time would make her brother’s heart grow fonder but she expected very nice attempts at conversations after nine years apart. Maybe she was a little foolish in believing the goodness of people, especially when William has not shown an ounce of kindness to her. Following her brother’s lead, Elizabeth stopped in the midst of several beautiful rose bushes lining the pathway. Maybe it was the truth when he said he wanted to see the roses? This thought popped in her mind and left just as quickly as William finally inquired about Uncle and Auntie and how their family should go to London for holidays. “I would say that is a delightful idea. I know they would surely love the company, and I can not imagine how much there is to do, and even the snow would be different!” Lizzie responded as pure glee sparked in her voice about just that simple idea of going away for the holidays. That when she looked up at her brother as he held a strange expression on his face. She did not know what to make of it….did he believe that she was just an excitable child or was he just surprised that she agreed with him for once? “You are aware that you would have to convince Mama of this? She loves to decorate the entire house and invite guests over,” she added in, just maybe a subconscious way to get a rise of him before he thinks he was right about everything and everyone. It was a nice thing to humble him before his brain grew too giant for his own body and he said something that was simply wrong. And he did something wrong a moment later when he insulted the poor girl. He spoke of how she was far too uneducated for a husband of her own as his opal-colored eyes glanced upon her face before he departed towards the rose bushes. Elizabeth could only assume that he wanted to get a closer look and smell the roses as they say. She just stood back and thought about what he uttered about her. How could he suggest something so horrible about her unprovoked when she only inquired about his studies. There was no judgment from her side to only be met with hostility back. He hasn't changed…and she realized now that neither did she. The feeling of tears pooling in her eyes started with the feeling of anger coursing through her veins as well. Like they were children again. No. Her inner voice whispered in the back of mind in response to what was happening. She was not going to let William control her emotions again. Wiping away her tears, Lizzie approached the bushes as well taking her place by her brother’s side. "C'est bien de ta part de te soucier de mes études, William. mais mes cours vont très bien comme vous pouvez le voir" Bending over to smell the roses, Elizabeth spoked her response in French. Miss Phillips was teaching her the language over the last few months and what was better practice than to speak with someone? Certainly better when that person thinks so little of you? Standing back upright, Elizabeth turned to see William with a smile on her face to ask a question."Les roses sentent si bon et sucré, n'est-ce pas?" Elizabeth paused for a few moments to let him speak his mind. It was a nice thing to do. But afterwards, she just turned and began walking in a new direction deeper into the garden. She rounded a hedge without a single word. "Papa would be angry if you did not see this" Elizabeth called to him in English as he trailed behind her. She would stop for him to reach her. It would take a few minutes but not long at all for them to be reunited once more in the center of the grand garden of the estate. The center was circular in shape with two benches for sitting, but the statement of the beautiful fountain in the middle of it. "He thought you would enjoy your reading here. No one really comes out here." Elizabeth remarked as she moved toward the fountain and sat on the edge of its stone. "Olivia and Alice do come out whenever they are wanting a swim. And the maids or I will have to fish them out." Giggling at the thought, Elizabeth did not want to let her guard down in front of William. But this was the first time when she was able to laugh at this without repercussions of not being a proper lady. Did other siblings keep these types of secrets?
(O.O.C): Translations : "C'est bien de ta part de te soucier de mes études, William. Mais mes cours vont très bien comme vous pouvez le voir" = "It's nice for you to show much-needed concerns about my studies, William. But my lessons are going very well as you can see." "Les roses sentent si bon et sucré, n'est-ce pas?" = "Roses smell so good and sweet"

Lady Elizabeth Jane Grey ..........................................................................................................................
A laugh that was truly unexpected, even for Elizabeth. A laugh that bellowed into the air in such a pretty and soft tone. The type of sound that composers would dare to write for their symphonies and ballads about love and all the warm feelings about it. Yes, that was the young mistress’s laughter. It was lovely, sweet, and poise. A delight for any man to hear. Yet if she had the ability to rewind time, Lizzie wouldn’t dare to giggle at this moment. Not because she was unhappy, but he did not deserve to hear her delight. Her dearest brother had relished in the sounds of her cries for years. So why present him the satisfaction of hearing her happiness when he was the cause of so much of her sadness? She could still be a cordial and proper lady without intense emotions. Slowly with the help of a very few breaths, the redhead lady was able to calm herself down before looking upon her brother William once more. He was still standing quite a distance away at the opposite side of the circular pathway. She thought it quite odd because he was directly in front of her and was not speaking, only holding onto her gaze as he smiled that charming smile of his that fools everyone. William eventually remarked that this place that Papa was so proud of was a beautiful place to enjoy his books. “I suppose it would be if the book is light and fun,” she softly replied as her brother’s gaze became more transfixed on her as if he enjoyed her little response and was eager for more. This made her feel uneasy as she darted her eyes away from him and took notice of the beautiful stone that made up the fountain. Why is he staring like that? Lizzie thought to herself as her hand grazed the stone aimlessly. Even enough so that Elizabeth did not realize that her brother had started to approach her as her eyes looked away. It was only when he started speaking again about how he was loved by Papa that she noticed him towering over her. His tall frame casts a dark shadow and his charming voice quite intimidating. “Yes. Why would Papa not love you?” the young mistress spoke in a sheepish tone of a voice to her brother. Elizabeth did not understand what was happening at this moment. Why the shift between them all of a sudden? Did she speak too freely or not enough or spoke about something she knew nothing about? “Please forgive me.”
