As the two neared the end of their venture in the Bog, Fawn didn't want to leave Juniper in this mess for too much longer. It was already getting to her as she coughed once and a while. Shaking her head, Fawn watched as Juniper found a small stash of water skins. She wondered what those were doing way out here. Tilting her head to one side she just watched as Juniper placed them with everything else.

"That will do, come on Juniper. We have spent enough time here, time to head home." Fawn called to Juniper whom was looking at a small tree close to where everyone was stashing things.

"Can we leave a little green in this place? It is so dull and black." Juniper said as she glanced back at Fawn.

Fawn stepped over and looked down at the small sapling that had tried to grow, but the toxins in the water and air had starved the poor thing. It now sat a gnarled stump with no hope of seeing the sunshine. Frowning slightly, Fawn looked at Juniper whom had a bit of a pleading look on her face.

"Alright. Alright, We'll leave a little something here. Don't expect it to still be here if we should return again." she cautioned as Juniper bounced away to watch at a small distance away.

Fawn shook her head at the foal before she closed her eyes. That familiar itch attacked her shoulder as the vine like marking started to glow. The skin around her shoulder and leg flickered as magic swelled within. That ever burning green ball of fire. Taking a steady breath, Fawn lowered her head and touched her glowing horn to the small stump. the plant gave a quiver as new roots shot through the ground reaching deep for untainted water as the growth above started to grow anew. it grew a bit larger then it had on its own, stems and twigs started to spout along its length as well as buds of leaves along the edges of those stems. Stepping back, her sides giving a small heave as the magic ebbed away back to its resting place.

The small tree had grown to be almost up to her shoulder, green leaves sprouted in small clumps along the branches. Those leaves reached upwards towards where the sun would be shining. Though the fog, Fawn didn't see it gaining much, but she hoped that the leaves would help with clearing the air and making the place more sustainable.

Shaking the buzzing from her head, Fawn turned away from the tree, Juniper still bouncing around before the two headed away from the area. It was time to head home. For Fawn knew that Juniper would soon crash and she didn't want to carry her all the way...

Adahy knew he had helped some by just coming here. It was a good feeling to help others. Setting the water skins down in at the start, Adahy was pleased with himself for even coming to the bog. But more pleased that he was apart of the healing of this not so wonderful place.

"I think I will stick around and help some more." Adahy told the leader of the group. Walking off Adahy thought "I could really us some light." Without warning his horn began to glow. "Wow, I did not know it could do that." He voiced at his new ability. But it only helped him see the yuckyness of the bog all the more. He just could not see anything, even with a glowing horn, in this fog.

Having a nice glow, apparently, was the trick to finding things in this forsaken bog. Having exhausted her power for the time being, Ysalone returned on her last scouting trip, only to find nothing useful whatsoever, despite spending more time searching the bog than she had before. Well, that was alright. The doe contented herself with knowing that her own poor luck was likely due to the area being scavenged by a troupe of other nouls, all looking for useful items to bring back to the stash. It wasn't about personal success. Ysalone was happy to let the group as a whole take this win.

As she wandered through the bog, she began to notice bits and pieces of it that seemed... maybe not quite as dire as she'd originally thought. Though the ground still squished beneath her feet and she was still mostly sure that any water splashing onto her bore a high chance of spreading disease, she began to recognize that perhaps the trees were not so creepy after all, and... maybe there were small signs of life here and there.

It was an odd sentiment, this slow but growing belief that this bog could one day thrive again. The young doe hadn't believed Roamer when he'd said it, had chalked it up to his own fanciful wishes as an Atmos user to just wanted to bring rain to the world and wash away the unpleasant things. But maybe it wasn't so bad out here. Maybe she'd get used to it.

After her good start finding a suitable stick... all Whirra's efforts felt in vain as she found nothing else suitable to help, everytime she returned to the pile there was more supplies that others had gathered. She felt rather useless so she decided that she would stay at the gathering place and try and organise what others found, maybe that would make her feel useful.

Everytime the doe turned up with her daughter it made Whirra smile, she did so love the little ones though she had none herself. It was hard to meet a nice buck when you couldn't speak to them. She watched in awe as the doe returned and made a tree grow after her foal had requested green, then a buck's horn began to glow. She dropped her head, folding her legs, sinking to the ground near the bog, not only had they found helpful items, they seemed to have helpful gifts, from the grandfather tree she supposed, she'd always been too afraid to go, to ask, wondering and worrying if she'd be able to even speak to a tree. She'd say and keep watch over what others found, she could do that much at least.... right?

The muck sucked at Njeri's feet as they attempted to navigate the mire, head held as high as possible as if that might let them escape the noxious fumes. Muddy water splashed up their legs and belly, making them shiver in disgust. Njeri would rather be anywhere but here. Wouldn't it be so much lovelier if the community decided to build some retreats in the barrens, instead? The nice, dry barrens where Njeri's gift would come in use. Alas. Njeri kept their complaints silent. No use in pitching a fuss while everyone else was working studiously.

Njeri kicked at the water, attempting to peer through the silt for anything that looked useful. No luck. They didn't want to break branches off of the few skeletal trees that managed to scratch a living out here. Surely there must be more than one that died on its own, rotting away in the bog? Njeri sniffed and immediately regretted it, as the putrid scent of decay swam into their nostrils.

                            "Oh dear, oh dear."

He watched as the young doe and her fawn took their leave of the group, and then, shortly after, a sabino buck lit the area with a bright glow of his horn.

"What a lovely idea, dear!" Njeri raised their voice so Adahy might hear them. Alas, Njeri's own skills did not include illumination, and the bog certainly didn't need and cooling down. Never-the-less, the extra light should make it easier to find something.

Njeri was having the worst luck. Oreme would have been a great help about now.

Njeri trudged on, trying hard to keep disgust of their face as their beautiful pink coat turned to brown grime. A good long wash would be in order once this expedition was over. Njeri could imagine it now, sinking into the warmth of hot springs, while other gorgeous noulicorns worked at washing the mud away from them, revealing the shining pink beneath. A perfume of cherry blossoms and lavender to rinse away the stink and return Njeri's mane to shimmering splendor. A delight to look forward to, if only Njeri could locate something of use out here.

Something sharp prodded at Njeri's leg.

Njeri winced and stepped back, lifting their foot to reveal a small jab in their cannon. A tiny red mark, but out here in the festering swamp that could quickly become infected. Perhaps a visit to a healer would be in order after they were cleaned up. What beasty was trying to take a bite out of them here? Njeri lowered their head, squinting through the muck.

A long stick, thick and sturdy, leered back at them. Unfortunately, it was well below the surface and Njeri would have to... ugh... dive in order to grab it. Nothing for it, though. Had to be done. Njeri steeled themself, took a deep breath, and splashed their face under the water, grasping with their teeth. They felt the stick, clenched on, and tore it out of the muck with a viscous 'pop' and quiet splash as Njeri resurfaced. Their mane hung in limp strands of brown mud, dripping over their back.

With a sense of triumph keeping their head held high, Njeri trotted toward the community pile and laid their treasure among the other sticks. There!

Whirra sighed then shook her head, NO!... no she wouldn't succumb to horrible feelings just because the area around her wasn't nice, she snorted a little and got up, determined to organise while others were still out looking, she began with the sticks, she moved them and stood them up for easy transporting later, keeping going until they were all in a nice tidy stack.

Next she moved to the bowls, it didn't seem there were very many but that could change, she stacked them together, larger ones at the bottom, smaller at the top so that they were in a nicely organised stack. See, she could be useful. The next task was any water skins found. She wondered if she should go and fill them up, but in the meantime she placed them neatly on a rock, again for easy access.

When she was done she stopped, looking around for the doe that had gathered them here, wondering if she had done the right thing by organising the thing everyone had found. She admitted it looked nicer than a messy pile of things though.

User ImageAdahy was not sure how much he was really helping. I end he really had not found as much has he had hoped for but just showing up in this icky place had to count for more than half. Than finding anything at all had to be a bonus. Feeling a little guilt Adahy decides to try one last time in a search for anything that might be of use. IT was the very least he could do and it would make him feel a little less worthless.

To right on him she see a tree. Or what might have once been a tree. It has mostly routed and bog green algae hangs from the branches. Going over to the tree Adahy presses against a low hanging branch. With a loud snap it brakes and crashes to the ground. Adahy test the fallen branch and finds that it is still strong. "This will make a great shelter building stick." Picking the branch up Adahy is pleased and stratified with his efforts here is the bog. He really did not like it here so he found this to be a success in his book. Dropping off the branch Adahy smiled proudly at the leader of the group. He really had done his best given the area they were in.

Adahy was not to sure what more he could do at this point. It was getting late and the already dark bog was becoming darker. Or was that just his imagination? He really could not tell at this point. "I think I will just hang out here until the group returns." He says to the leader of the group not really wanting to go back out into the mud and muck. It was a sad attempt at an accuse but he was pleased with his work and stratified to just hang out until it was time to leave.

Njeri was delighted to find the supplies had been piled neatly, and nodded their head in thanks to Whirra, the doe who seemed to have done the task of organizing everything the group had found. Njeri made careful work of depositing their own stick in the pile, so as not to disturb the order. Then it was back into the bog to look for more.

Evening did appear to dwindling down toward them, making the dark bog even gloomier. Njeri headed near Adahy in hopes of utilizing the buck's glowing horn as a better means to find something useful. Their choice paid off. Njeri spotted something bobbing in the water just inside the reaches of Adahy's illumination. They headed toward it, squinting through the dark for any clue of what it might be. The thing looked swollen and organic, and for a moment Njeri feared they'd run across the bloated corpse of some poor animal that met its demise out here.

                            But no. A waterskin!

Njeri plucked it out of the murk and trotted briskly to the pile. The skin was, thankfully, empty, but it would be useful for travelers coming to and from the bog. No one wanted to drink Blackbriar's toxic water, not even the poor creatures that tried to live out here. Njeri set the waterskin down the rest of the supplies and turned their attention to the darkening sky.

"It is getting rather late, isn't it? Perhaps we should travel back soon before it's too dark to navigate." They shuddered at the thought of being lost in the swamp overnight.

As the nouls came filing back in with their latest finds, Ysalone stood by the pile and thanked each one for coming and for contributing. They'd managed to accumulate a good-sized stash of sticks, along with waterskins and equipment for carrying supplies.

"Thank you, all!" she said as they turned to leave. "It's late and we'd better all get back before it gets too dark. But with what we've found today, we'll be able to build something that all nouls traveling to the bog can use!"

Teamwork, it seemed, really did make the dream work.
