-Nightmare, Normal, and Angelic Kits by Abeno Seimei-

 

[Abeno Seimei]

tab It's a chilly winter evening and three young friends are playing by the hearth. Cookies are placed on a small table by a kindly looking adult when there is a soft knock at the door. It squeaks as she opens it. "Yes?"

"I'm so sorry to bother you tonight..." States the stranger.

The motherly kitsu immediately invites her in. "Let's get you out of the cold."
The curious looking stranger is hurried into the living room and placed next to the hearth with a blanket.

tab The visitor was odd. She stood on two legs. The three kits bound over to meet her, tails wagging.
"Please let her rest kids."
"Oh, it's ok" She smiles. "Its nice to see such young ones playing together. Even in today's age, its a rare sight. "

The motherly kitsu brings the traveler a mug of hot tea. "I have heard that some places are still very much divided."
The Traveler's human-like hands wrap around the warm cup. She sips it. "Thank you very much, ma'am. You are really too kind." The two exchange a smile.

tab "So, are you a- a En-Light-End?" asks the angelic kit.

"You have a keen eye."

"You are?!" "We just learned about them in school!" The other two squeak out.

"Oh?" she seemed surprised. "What did you learn?"

"That they keep stories!" chimes the normal. "And, they are really-really-really-really-really Old." declares the little nightmare.

"I don't think I'm that old" she laughs.

"Can you tell us a story?" asks the young angelic with excitement.

"Hm..." She thinks. "How about I tell you about the Season of Kinship?"

The three little ones look at one another before scooching closer to the enlightened.

" Long ago, before war gripped the minds of the Kitsusagi, there was a celebration of warmth during the bitter cold of the year. Kitsu would spend more time together. Sharing the warmth of a hearth, a meal, a laugh, and sometimes even small gifts.

During this time, Friends could even become like close family and it was possible for hurt feelings to be mended.

It was also a time to prepare for the renewal that comes with the new year and look forward to the hope and color of the next season."

"What kinda gifts would they get?" asks the kits.

"Well, they would give things like Scarves..clothes.." She thinks.

"Toys?"

"Well of course toys." These kits were so enthusiastic, she couldn't help but chuckle.

"We should totally do that!" The pups all agreed as they were finally shoo'd off to get ready for bed. Small goodnights and thank yous were exchanged, and with that, the Traveler curled up on the couch and soon followed suit. Off to Dreamland.

The next day, the kits split up and begged their parents for a bit of silver to buy a gift for a friend.

The normal kit was out with their mother when they spotted a blue plush fox. 'That would be perfect!' they thought.

The Angelic kit was out with their family when they spotted a Scarf. 'That's the one!' they thought.

The Nightmare kit was out with their family when they spotted a wand. 'That looks fun enough!' they thought.

Later that week, the friends were able to meet up again and exchange their gifts.
The nightmare immediately threw on the scarf.
The angel hugged their new plushie tight.
The normal kit swung the wand a little too hard and light bounced into the fireplace and up the chimney.

The three laughed and continued playing together until the evening came.
