His mouth opened and closed, and open and closed, until the caiman's nose popped out of the water.

Then he sang, his mouth unsettlingly open,

"I can seeEEEee you,"

and the nose flared, slightly, before the rest of the body started to emerge from the water.

"Hello," Say Hello said, "Hello hello hello."

And the caiman was there, eyes glowing, squatting at the side of the bank.

"Come, come come," he said, seated still. "Your eyes glow so well. Have you come for me?"

It looked like it wasn't quite sure it was coming for him - any more, at any rate. It wavered on its clawed feet, swaying back and forth a little in the humid swamp wind.

He paused and laughed, a rattling laugh. It went on for some time. It almost frothed at the back of his throat, before he tilted his head at the caiman.

"Just give me what I want," the phrase was low, hoarse.

"Preeeeetty please!" then it was high.

The caiman's mouth opened, for a brief while, the teeth showing uncertainly. Then it closed. Then the caiman turned tail.

May they be born, wavering, that will be enough.

Damn that was creepy.
