It seemed few seathi or mers traveled this way. Most likely because the water bed was desolate with few sources of food just a few pieces of seaweed that looked miserable in their choice of habitation. The ground was mostly littered with sharp, jagged rocks probably volcanic in nature. While the rocks might fascinate Sangre at another time she felt more of a pull toward a massive cave. Like a Siren call, the mystery of the cave pulled her. She was curious by nature and her intellectual curiosity had gotten her in trouble more than once. However, once her inquisitive nature was engrossed she seldom bothered to think about the consequence of her actions. Sangre stood at the mouth of the cave and regarded it with some fascination. The entrance of the cave was quite big and she was betting that the interior of the cave would be very long and deep. She bit her lip as she tried to process her thoughts. A small voice in her head was screaming at her to turn back. That venturing alone into an unknown cave was not a smart or safe choice. Just when she was rethinking her decision, her eyes were drawn left wall of the cave entrance. Her eyes widened in surprise, a pictograph had been painted on the wall. Her body vibrated in excitement, “What a discovery!” she exclaimed. “ Why had I been scared and turned back, I would never have made a marvelous discovery,” she remarked to herself as all sense of fear she felt evaporated suddenly. Hurriedly she swam up to the painting.
Once inside the cave her eyes adjusted the darker surroundings. Her mouth lit up in a smile as she could see that the cave system held more images. In an analytical method, she noted that the quality of the images was vastly different. Some paintings were very simple, while others extremely beautiful and complex. However the pigment used to paint the pictures looked to have been made from the same set of materials. Some pictures were faint and appeared to be weathered either by the environment or by a process of ageing.
She exclaimed, “How simply fascinating!” Sangre hurriedly swam deeper into the cave. She was so excited and amazed with everything she saw. Further into the cave and down several twisting paths she spotted Glow worms in cages. She had seen glow worms before but this particular breed she was unfamiliar with. Ideas filtered through her mind some thoughts forgotten within seconds.
However the two thoughts that stayed with her were why the worms were locked in cages and who lived in this cave system? Soon she noticed the presence of bones littering the ocean floor. More and more bones appeared as she grew alarmed once again. When she first noticed the bones she hadn’t thought much of them as they appeared old and bones could be found in many places. Seathi, mers, fams, and other animals died and seeing their remains was not unusual. However the amount of bones was alarming and some skeletal remains were fresh. Many bones were broken into small fragments and tooth marking could be found on many of the larger pieces. Sangre felt a chill of fear run down her spine.
“Do you know what we do to trespassers in our cave?” the words were spoken from a voice residing deeper in the cave.
Upon hearing the voice, Sangre could hear her heart rapidly accelerate. She turned to face the direction of the voice and soon found herself surrounded by an otherworldly assortment of soq and familiars. Members had blood red pigment painted in swirling patterns down their faces. They wore jewelry made of bones, the leader a large mer had many bone piercings and wore a necklace made out of the skull of a seathi. The group spoke all at once and she could not hear most of the words over the thumping sound of her heart. They were going to eat her, she knew it. Some of the groups were licking their lips while they looked at her. All members had hard, vindictive eyes and she felt that she would receive no mercy from this group, but then her mind could make out the words the leader was speaking to her. “Join our ranks or be sacrificed.”
Sangre was being given a choice. She was very surprised by leader question and she felt her fear abate a bit as she realized she might actually live through this ordeal.
She asked questioningly, “I just have to swear eternity to your god?” The leader nodded and the group members who had been licking their lips looked disappointed as they were starting to realize they might not get the meal they had been planning on eating.
“I will join with you to celebrate this god,” Sangre said as she made eye contact with the group’s leader. While Sangre valued her freedom, she wanted desperately to live. Plus now that she wasn’t as fearful for her life she was becoming more fascinated with this group of soq. They were an anthropologist's dream, a unique culture that she could study in great detail. She would pledge loyalty to their god, but she would also study this group closely and the deity they called god. She knew that living with the group would be an interesting experiment that would fascinate her.
“ Come this way, little sister.” The leader spoke to her as he turned to swim deeper into the cave. She followed him closely as she made her way to what would be her new life.

For the cult! Username: ~Twilight...Angel~ Preferences: Kin Kikokuryu, Raspberry, Dark Sunset Prompt Response: She was an unusually adventurous little Seathi. Many others that she had met in her life as far now thought that she was rather crazy for doing all the things that she had. They were not even anything that she believed others would think to be strange or at least not as crazy as the others had made it out to be. She didn't think exploring caves or deep trenches was really that big of a deal.
But boy was she ever wrong. She had really never been so wrong about anything in her entire life. To simply think that caves were not that big of a deal. To think that nothing could possibly happen if she were to head into the unknown unprepared.
This cave had seemed so simple at first. So much like the others that she had explored before it. So much like the ones that she had grown to love. It was depressing how wrong she was. As she had moved further in, her feeling of uneasiness grew and grew. Seeing the drawings etched on the walls made a small pit form in her stomach. Some of the more crude ones seemed rather creepy. She should have turned around while she still could. Should have listened to her gut feeling. Especially when she moved further in and started to see the bones of other creatures. But by then, it was simply too late. There was nothing to be done now.
You have two options. Either join our ranks and swear yourself for eternity to our god. Or refuse and have your flesh become our sacrifice to Him, to have your bones become an alter to his greatness.
Those words echoed around her in the still dark cave. It seemed like an eternity before something else happened. Before one of the others had moved themselves forward to try and surround her. To try and make sure that she had to make her choice. Startled she jolted back as quickly as she was able. She needed to leave. Needed to get out of there. There was no way that either of these options would suit her plans in life. There was no way she could possibly allow them to catch her.
As she quickly tried to move her way back to the entrance of the cave, she heard them. They seemed to move all around her. Seemed to whisper to her. Saying all the things she didn't want to hear. Telling her that there was no way out. She knew that wasn't true. Knew she would be able to get out if she tried.
Coming to a dead end where she thought there should have been an opening, she felt another Seathi rub up against her. Felt a few fish creep up on her. Her loud gasp frightened herself and she darted off in another direction.
She could see the cave lightening up. See the drawings begin to fade. There were no longer bones on the cave floor. Excited she sped up. She was almost there. She could feel the current, see the sun reflecting on the water. As she almost came to the entrance, she was dragged back into the cave. Dragged back to try again. Dragged back to meet her fate, whatever it might be.
There was still one thing in her heart as the sun seemed to disappear...
She would get out... She would... She... Would...
