Strictly taboo, cross breeding between the races is a very rare occurrence. The children resulting are not really welcome in their homelands. They are most often outcasts in society. While they can possess the powers of their parents, they will not be nearly as powerful and still possess many of the same weaknesses. Only a limited number of hybrids are allowed to exist at any time.
As for how cross breeding works, pretty much any race can breed with any other.. Except ghosts. However, there are a few constraints.
1. Half human hybrids are the only kind which can have children. A hybrid must be at least half human in order to do this. All other hybrids are sterile (unless permission is acquired to have a baby).
2. If a human female is bearing a hybrid child, she will always die during childbirth. Human bodies simply are not strong enough to handle supernatural children.
3. A hybrid child is always weaker than both parents and will have at least some of the weaknesses of both races they hail from.
