Well we're going to a competition but I don't know what we're going to sing yet, it's not 'til May.

Edit: We've done it and we sang Weep No More and S'vivon. We superior ranking and were told we were the best singers they'd heard that whole day. It was at Carowinds in South Carolina.

Sadly, for solo and ensemble, we had a big snow storm that got the contest moved back 2 weeks. So my choir teacher gave everyone the option of going, but with working on our big contest stuff and our musical, she wasn't planning on taking everyone. But almost no one was even ready anyway. Strangely... my two ensembles were the only ensembles ready, but we didn't even go... T__T but sadly enough, me and one guy were the only people who ended up going to the contest to sing our solos and whoohoo! We both got 1s! I sang Se tu Ma Mi So Spiri

Our big choir contest is coming up NEXT Thursday... >___< but there's a lot of guys inelligible, so the guy's pieces may end up getting dropped... >__<

Psalm 23

i would do a small group ensamble peice for a contest and i would use prayer of the childern. that song sounds so go with a group of males singing it.

there is a version written in male 4 part harmony and it is. . .wow. in fact i have that sheet music with me at my house.

For solo and ensemble competition I always book myself solid. I do ten (the max ammount) events. And then between 15-20 accompanaments. I do an oboe solo, a flute solo, a piano solo, a vocal solo, a musical theatre solo, a woodwind trio, a flute choir, a flute quartet, a mens barbershop quartet, a show choir number... That takes most of the day. Plus I run constant to do all the piano accompanaments. Then all of this stuff goes to state, and I drop my accompanaments down to only the 5 best peices. I'm one of the only willing accompanists in the area, therefore I audition the peices and take only those I feel have been worked at the most. I feel bad, but I can't be over booked at state. It'll decide my future (especially the music theatre peice, I need to experience as much musical theatre competition as possible) therefore the other events I had that went to state either sing acapella or get a new accompanist/ I make a recording for them!

we just started a piece called "requiem" -eliza gilkyson, thats normally sort of like folky but Mr. L found it in like this really beautiful more classic interpritation in satb that's just gorgious. I'm talking teenage kids fawning over classical music, crying standing ovation beautiful. Oh my god it just gives me shivers =^^=

We're going to sing the Musica Intima version of Loch Lomond (my absolute favorite song!!). I'm going to tryout for the solo on the peice, and maybe get my own.

Last year there was a big blizzard on contest day, so we didn't have a contest. gonk

"Pie Jesu"-I think it's by Luigi Cherubini
"Shut De Do"-Forgot
"Hear my Prayer"-Moses Hogan
^^for contest in April
For solo/ensemble, I'm either doing "The Vagabond" or "Whither Must I Wander"--both by R.V. Williams

I love the Trond Kverno version of "Ave Maris Stella"
also, it is spelled "A Cappella"

P.S.--I love one arrangement of "Elijah Rock", by whoever that guy was who did "Didn't My Lord (deliver Daniel?)"
but the Moses Hogan Arrangement sucks, I ithnk it's the only one of his compostions that I just do not enjoy....
