Once you have your pet from SoA, there are other things you can do with it! Maybe you'd like a fancy signature image, or some art, or a hoard/horde image to show off all your pretties. All of these shops, and more, are available in the mini-shops section of the guild. You can even find shops where you can have your SoA decorated with items, scars, or a new hairdo.

These mini-shops are not officially administered by the owner/manager of SoA (even if some of them are run by staff members). All business conducted between the mini-shops and the customer is to remain 100% between the mini-shop owner and the customer. Shadows of Africa provides a convenient location for all such shops to be collected, the basic structure by which these shops will operate, and nothing more.

User ImageOpening a Shop
If you wish to open a shop that sells artwork, hoard images, or other materials that do not require edits to the official SoA lineart/pets, then you may do so without applying for a permit. Simply read and abide by the rules on opening and maintaining a shop! Any shops that do not comply will be removed without notice.

Shadows of Africa is accepting any shops that create edits to the official lines (items, scars, paint, hair, expressions, etc.). All existing shops may remain, and will not be removed unless they are inactive for an extended period of time.

User ImagePlacing an Order
If a shop is marked as [OPEN] and it provides a service you wish to purchase, then follow the instructions in that mini-shop! Please do not pester the owners of [CLOSED] shops to open slots, or ask the shop staff why mini-shops are not open. We do not control their schedules, nor do we require them to fill a quota.

All transactions in the mini-shops forum are conducted solely between the mini-shop owner and the customer. Shadows of Africa will not be involved in the business conducted within that forum, unless the mini-shop owner violates the rules they agreed to when opening their shop.

Additional notes:
User ImageMini-shops are a bonus, not a necessity.
Your SoA doesn't need edits for you to roleplay him/her has having a necklace, or a scar, or a curly mane. These traits are all things that you can decide for yourself - the edits provided by mini-shops are just an extra little perk!
User ImageEdits created in the mini-shops are not inheritable.
While some special SoA can pass down their edits (if bred by the right colorist), most will not. Unless your SoA is on the list, he/she will not pass down edits to his/her offspring.
User ImageIf you do not have a mini-shop/edit license you are not to draw on/alter an SoA's image in any form for any reason.

Here is a bit of information to keep in mind while running your mini shop.

User ImageThe Basics:

  • You may keep 100% of the profits you make from your mini shop
  • Charging gold is entirely optional.
  • You must meet a quota each month before you are allowed to do any ‘extra’ work, or receive perks from your shop.
  • The quota for all item and edit shops is at least 10 SoA a month. 5 of these MUST be rolled.
  • The other half of quota may can be CC, speed, some kind of game, etc. Additional edits may be chosen however the shop owner sees fit.
  • You may create edits on growing lines.
  • If you take a month or a few months off, you simply cannot color yourself a custom, or give away items until the next time you complete your quota.
  • Inactive shops for more than five months will lose their ability to do item/body edits and their shop will be closed and removed.
  • Please make sure to maintain the standard that got you hired, and remain consistent in your edits from week to week. Slips in quality will be noticed and shops may be closed.
  • We will only warn a shop once if we feel the style is moving away from SoA standards.
  • Be sure to post in this thread during the first week of every month to maintain an active status.

User ImageThe Rewards:

  • You may set your own prices.
  • If you own an edit shop, you may only color yourself one SoA custom a month, and only after you meet your quota for that month. The custom must be on adult, rogue lines (no hybrids, pride lines). Shops that don't require a license do not receive custom perks.
  • You may not use your custom to custom into any litter.
  • Once your quota is reached, you may give as many free edits away as you would like.
  • You may gift your custom for the month to someone else, but it uses your custom for that month.
  • You are not eligible for staff credits.

User ImageItem Edits:

  • Item Shops: Edits should be limited to items only. Make no changes to the line art, expression or hair of a SoA.
  • Items should not cover more than 60% of the SoA/be super cluttered, unless they're for special events or by staff.
  • Items MUST reflect that they are made or found by lions. Nothing too advanced or out of the time line/impossible for a lion to have will fly. Good examples: gemstones, fabric, some metal, pelts, natural materials, native/tribal found items.
  • The amount of clean, undamaged cloth on a lion should be limited. Lions cannot stumble across yards of untouched fabric in the wild.
  • Intricate metal working like broaches, crowns and highly designed items should be kept to a minimum. Items should have a more primitive feel.
  • Including skulls is fine, but they must look like they came from a real animal. Skulls that would not fit typically on a SoA's head should not be drawn over it.
  • Editing the space around items should be limited unless you are approved for body edits.

User ImageBody Edits:

  • No changing the pose of the lineart, or placement of limbs. Making a SoA skinny, fat, buff or any extreme changes to lineart are not allowed or need to be approved for an event.
  • Changes to manes that result in changes to body structure (balding/visible ears) are acceptable.
  • Changes to body structure, like floppy ears or swirly tails, should be limited.
  • Manes must look like manes. Long, flowing hair on males, highly stylized designs, or hair that looks too human will not be acceptable without being approved by staff for events.
  • Consider the way a mane works and create hairstyles accordingly. It's still possible to make hairstyles that make SoA unique without going over board.
  • There is a limit to how long mortal hair can be. Manes flowing to the ground is too much, but shoulder length is a good length.
  • Braids are still more than welcome, but again, nothing extreme.
  • The only exceptions to these rules would be God mortal forms.

User ImageExpression Edits:

  • Only edit the face of the SoA unless you are also approved for regular/body edits.
  • Eyes must be kept to SoA standards. Super large/small eyes or eyes differing in style are not acceptable.
  • All edits and shops will be monitored for consistency and to keep the style established by the shop.

Over all, we ask you practice moderation with your edits. One SoA doesn't need all the items!
