Round the Eleventh

Talk to [NPC]

Habeus Corpses and Chop Chop: Soaking wet and furious, the lawyer and the cook fight with the generator to get it working again. The house is better-lit now; while it's obviously not at full power, it's enough that everybody can see without flashlights to a decent extent. They return to the kitchen and towel off, but they are once again available for talking.

Wine About It:

Rank and File: SPIDER WAR

Fuchsia Fussbudget: Missing in action.

Kitchen

The kitchen hasn't changed too much. Wine About It is reading the label of a bottle of wine, while Habeus Corpses drips her hair into the sink and Chop Chop dries herself with a towel.

You can…
A: Return to the dining room and search it/use the panel to access the sitting room
B: Talk to any of the NPCs
C: Search the wine cave
D: Search the kitchen

Dining Room

Nothing is new in this room, really. Habeus Corpses isn't here, though. Her case files are sitting out on the table.

You can...
A: Use the panel to head back to the sitting room
B: Read through the case files

Great Room

Not much has changed in here. This room appears to be completely empty.

Parlor

Rank and File has gained an advantage over the spiders; the sudden return of the lights has hurt their tiny, sensitive eyes. Drops of sweat bead his brow as he fights his way through.

Palm Court

There's so many bats. They make a half-hearted attempt to follow Vigorish, but he's on a catwalk, not a batwalk and so they stay where they are.

Trophy Room

One of the taxidermy heads appears to move... wait, no, that's just a trick of the light.

Sitting Room

After the kerfuffle with Sea Major, Judge Fudge is freed! Investigating the room a bit further, they notice that the rope used to bind the judge was nylon with a frayed edge. There's also a bright purple hair on the carpet- it's almost magenta in color.

You can...
A: Return to the kitchen
B: Return to the dining room
C: Go through the library and upstairs

Office

The chaos of the office has been left behind.

Powder Room/Restroom

This restroom is quiet now.

Library

There is nothing new in the library; the stairs, however, are still down! Whoever plunged the house into darkness didn't mess with them.

The Second Floor

The second floor landing is dimly illuminated by a soft glow from below. Long shadows dance and flicker on the walls, causing severe unease.

You can...
A: Search the reading room
B: Search the lounge
C: Search the art gallery (or if you want to forego a search for evidence, roll a d10 to find the passage).
D: Search the bathroom
E: If you can fly, you can search the top of the palm court (roll a d4 if you want to try to fit through the bars of the catwalk; 1 is success and allows you to search the catwalk, all others are failure.)

The Art Gallery

This room is empty, except for the spider bro who lives here.

The Lounge

Looking out the lounge window, the figures have gone away. Given that the generator is working again, that makes perfect sense.

You can...
A: Search the art gallery
B: Search the reading room
C: Attempt to open the laundry room to search there (roll a d10; 8 breaks the door down, otherwise failure)

The Reading Room

As Penny investigates the boxes, something else comes to light. She finds some hospital records, including her mother’s. This… this was odd. Her older brother was a good few years older than she was, and there weren’t any other children. Her mother got sick when she was a child; she was old enough to remember it. She didn’t know her mother had been in the hospital between the times they were born, but there's some records of a visit in here. Perhaps it wasn't hospitalization... or perhaps it was... something else.

Her mother was a recluse for quite a long time. She may have been... emotionally disturbed.

Other than the syringe, there's no drug paraphernalia. It doesn't really look like drugs. It doesn't really look like a substance anybody would want in their body. It actually smells a little like... drain cleaner?

You can...
A: Investigate the boxes
B: Search the art gallery
C: Search the reading room
D: Attempt to open the laundry room to search there (roll a d10; 8 breaks the door down, otherwise failure).
E: Search the previously locked guest bedroom

The Bathroom

This bathroom is empty, but glamorous.

The Catwalk

There’s an oil slick on the catwalk; not like motor oil or anything, but a clear, greasy spot. It looks like perhaps it was sloshed out while being carried; it’s not a huge spot. Just a few drops.

You can...
A: Cross the catwalk and search a large bedroom
B: Cross the catwalk and search a smaller bedroom
C: Cross the catwalk and search the workroom

The Laundry Room

Both attempts to make it through to the laundry room were smashing successes. Literally. The panel's been smashed! The cavernous room echoes with the sound of dripping water; one of the taps has started to leak. The unwashed tablecloth, sheet, and pillowcase are still gross and stained.

You can...
A: Search the laundry room some more
B: Search the guest bedroom
C: Push further on and search the workroom

The Open Guest Bedroom

This room, the one close to the laundry room, is mostly empty. The speaking tube has been uncovered, but this room doesn't really look too frequently used.

You can...
A: Search the workroom
B: Search a room at the end of the catwalk that's definitely Pennybags' bedroom
C: Search another room a little further down the catwalk that's probably a bedroom

The Previously Locked Guest Bedroom

As Edelweiss knocks the dolls about, she comes across something sitting on a table. There’s a book here- a photo album- filled with old pictures of Moneybags’ family. Somebody was recently flipping through it. It’s opened to a picture of Moneybags and his first wife on their wedding day- and there’s a strange white powder sprinkled on the pages.

Edelweiss gets the feeling she shouldn’t lick it.

Other than that, the doll room is mostly just creepy. None of the dolls have any obvious secrets, other than being horrible, horrible dolls.

You can…
A: Search the bathroom
B: Search behind a door that is definitely a bedroom
C: Search the reading room

The Workroom

The workroom is a large space filled with cleaning supplies, a couch to rest on, some furniture in various states of repair- basically, a utility room where the house staff working upstairs could have some space that wasn’t particularly public. It looks as though half of the room was mostly Fuchsia’s and the other half was Rank and File’s. The room’s worktables are full of various materials, but there are a few things that look as though they don’t belong. For instance, why would there be a bottle of cooking oil under a towel on Fuchsia’s side? There’s no hot plate up here or anything to cook with. There’s no other food in the room, either. The bottle isn’t labeled or anything, but maybe Chop Chop could help you out with identifying it. It doesn’t really look like regular old canola oil…

You can…
A: Cross the catwalk and search Pennybags' bedroom
B: Cross the catwalk and search another small bedroom
C: Head back downstairs to the library with the intention of heading to the kitchen and asking Chop Chop about the strange oil.

The Door That Was Probably A Bedroom Pennybags' Old Bedroom

This bedroom is blue and full of trophies, toys, and books. There is a large bed with a downy comforter, neatly made in a corner. A picture of Pennybags and his mother stands on the nightstand. There is a closet with a small child's clothes (and Pennybags remembers just how wretched these are- ugh, the Little Lord Faunterloy suits!), the sort of thing a sentimental parent might hang onto after their kid moves out, and a desk with a stack of college econ textbooks on top of it. This was clearly Pennybags' old room. The eastern wall has a door leading to a huge playroom; the northern wall has a door leading to a jack-and-jill style bathroom. Investigating this room doesn't give you anything in the way of evidence, but it does open up the way to a few far more interesting rooms.

You can...
A: Search what is really like to be a bedroom right next door
B: Go down to what is pretty much definitely a large bedroom at the end of the hall
C: Search the jack-and-jill bathroom
D: Search the playroom

The Master Bedroom

The unmade bed shows the time-worn imprint of a single sleeper’s body. This room is furnished with antiques; the four-poster bed is simply massive. An open book with a dogeared page lies on the bedside table. The floor is hardwood, but a dense Persian rug with cherub imagery covers nearly the entire room. Bookshelves line the walls. There's a beautiful, ornate wooden jewelry box sitting on a dresser; aside from that, there is little actual ornamentation... other than a beautiful watercolor portrait of Moneybags' first wife. Across from the bed, a window seat with a thick cushion provides a beautiful view of the formal gardens.

Well, it would if it was daytime.

Cutie Honey enters the room first; she is low to the ground and can see under the bed quite clearly. Under the bed, she finds a mostly empty wineglass. The glass has a thick red residue pooled in the bottom; it looks as though it has been abandoned for some time. There's a clear residue on the side of the glass as well; it is quite thick, but transparent. The glass smells like... well, wine. But the residue on the side is slicker than the residue at the bottom. Don Calimari opens the bedside table drawer using the key and finds...

A little black book. Not of wine, though. Of ladies.

There's also a lot of letters. Dozens and dozens of letters, many of them quite old. Personal correspondence- not business. The oldest ones go back to when he and his first wife were courting; the letters from her still smell like lavender perfume. Then there's letters- many unopened- from when she was sick. There's... something really tragic about all of this. He never really got over her, did he?

You can...
A: Search the bedroom between this one and Pennybags'
B: Search the attached master bathroom
C: Search this room some more
D: Search Pennybags' old bedroom

C. Search the jack and jill bedroom.

Pennybags was quickly reminded of why he didn't visit his old room often when opened the closet door, and especially so now that the lights were coming on. Ugh, these outfits...of course Father would still have them around.

Well. Into the bathroom for him, then. Maybe this would prove illuminating. He was careful to check the sink and the rug and the cabinets. Didn't want to miss anything.

It took Clementine a few moments to put two and two together. That smell… she'd just smelled it not so long ago. Drain cleaner-- the one under the sink in the restroom! Why was someone using drain cleaner for something… oh…. But wait, that was too barbaric. And would it cause the sort of symptoms Fuschia had mentioned? How GHASTLY.

Clementine moved toward the laundry room--the door wouldn't budge! With a huff of annoyance, she tried putting her shoulder to it. While for a brief moment she thought herself victorious, her gentle, feminine body did nothing to sway the door.

With a sigh, she dropped down and tried to look under the door, trying to see if there was anything immediately amiss in the room.

Colonel Whizbang stumbled around. He was still hyperventilating every once in awhile when a hoof came in to contact with something cardboard-y. Oh, a box! He didn't need to lean down far to investigate the boxes.

C: Head back downstairs to the library with the intention of heading to the kitchen and asking Chop Chop about the strange oil.

Del snorted, eyeing the mess Fuchsia and Rank and File had made of the room. Figured those two would come to slack off. Not that he ever did. -coughcough-. What he found on Fuchsia's side though intrigued him about as much as the black book with the wine list. "Cooking oil? No....something..." del said, turning the bottle this way and that. There was nothing up here to suggest those two had been cooking. He wasn't exactly sure he wanted to taste anything made with this oil either. It just seemed off. "Chop Chop would know, if not I'll make him tell me." Del huffed to himself as he turned from the room, intending to head back down towards the kitchen to find the cook and demand answers. The yes man would show he could get a few yes's himself.

c- search another room a little further down that's probably a bedroom

Hmmm... Nothing of interest under there. No Carame-Er. Delegator either. Quarter Mane scratched his chin thoughtfully and gave a shrug. The hunt goes on! With a grin he trotted out of the guest bedroom onto the catwalk, bypassing the greasy splatters on the floor as he headed towards what he could only assume was a bedroom.

You'd think given how wealthy Moneybags was he could've afforded to have this place better cleaned. There was junk all over the place! Like why had no one bothered to clean the office yet? It was clearly a wreck and definitely screamed no good. Yet none of the staff had been suspicious of foul play till the reading of the will or even bothered to clean it up?

The stallion gave a sniff, he couldn't understand this weird life of luxury his friend lived. He'd much rather a good old adventure in the savannah or a tropical rainforest to these comforts.

Bright Blessings tried to avoid looking at the dolls, mouth tightening as instead he flipped his gaze to the bathroom. Immediately, he swept through, opening cabinets and checking around the toilet. Perhaps they'd find another vial, or something related to the green liquid he had witnessed previously. Something was hiding in this room, and he intended to find it.

A: Search the bathroom

She wanted to lick the powder.

Edelweiss really felt like she shouldn't but Shrill X knew that it was probably actually just some sort of sherbet and she was hankering for something sweet. So she did. Just a little bit, right off the pages of the photo album.

Then with a shrug she swaggered out, leaving her mess behind, only to create an entirely new one in the next bedroom when she ignored everyone and simply began tearing blankets off the bed and shoving anything not too heavy or nailed down aside.

Someone was getting a little bit bored.

Satin felt weird about the strange oily stuff on the groung, she was careful to not touch it at all. Takin in her options, she decided to checkout the workroom.

C: Cross the catwalk and search the workroom

And Sea Major didn't see the books being read up on in the library that were for for making strangling devices, one of which being for nylon.

"Cheese?" Sea Major didn't expect the Judge to say that. But whatever, maybe it was a really good plate of cheese? Anyhow, nylon rope and magenta purple hair? Was this the hair of the killer or Judge's kidnapper? Maybe there were more clues upstairs? ", Okay, I think the stairs have cleared by now. I didn't head up right away because they were too crowded for me to get up. If we do go to the stairs we should one last quick look through the library. That is if you are coming with me. You want to head upstairs?"

C: Search the art gallery (or if you want to forego a search for evidence, roll a d10 to find the passage), trying to find the playroom in this massive house

Detective Gumshoe wasn't able to find any more flippy panels to slither through one of the hidden corridors to the East Wing but did not give up his search touching every wall and tapping every bumpy objects he saw in the semi lit place again after someone turned the generators back on.

He threw his flashlight to the ground, abandoning it, and kept searching the house. Moneybags had a lot of wives and kids. Surely there should be a playroom here somewhere. "And curses on the seven seas to get meself some clues," he grumbled. he hasn't found jack all since he was sent here to solve the mystery! all he had was the book on knots with him.

It seemed some interesting stuff had happened in the sitting room just moments ago. The hair was definitely a clue even if it meant nothing Bitter Pill at the moment. She decided to move on for now and maybe she'd ask about it later if she had the time.

Noticing a familiar face just up ahead, Bitter Pill trotted to catch up with her. "Diamante!" she exclaimed, "aren't you a sight for sore eyes!" She smiled a genuine smile at her before checking her over. "You weren't hurt when lights went out...were you?"

Search the guest bedroom

Torts looked around in the laundry room and made a note of the wine stains. It certainly seemed like he had been drinking wine before he died. Other than sheets, the room didn't seem too interesting so Torts pressed on quickly.

She next made her way to the guest bedroom that was not too frequently used. She checked to see if there were any signs of it having been used recently, first looking at the bed until a wood box caught her eye. It was locked! But maybe the small key she found in the library would unlock it.... Torts decided to give it a try.

C: Go through the library and upstairs

"Well, well,"
Diamante said, laughing her old lady laugh. "A pleasure to see you again too. These old bones are a bit tougher than they look, and nothing happened to me, dear," Although Lav had been frightened when the lights went out, everything seemed ok now... They just had to catch up with everyone upstairs and compare notes, and figure out who the killer was!

"Let's get upstairs before the lights decide to go out again, dearie," she said, leading the way through the library and up the now permanently lowered stairs.

(Diamond didn't know about Don Calimari, but she herself was pretty sentimental and it was getting pretty hard not to cry.) "You had a softer side to you after all, old friend," the Don murmured (and Diamond was almost impressed that her bottom lip hardly quivered). He flipped through the book, trying to recognise names, and rifled through the letters a moment more as he kept half an eye on Cutie's interesting discovery.

Then the Don left off the bedside table, turning abruptly for the master bathroom, as if the drawer held nothing more for him (primarily because if Diamond was gonna sniffle, she wasn't gonna do it in front of Haute).
