I'm emo. But not the sort of emo you're thinking about. I don't wear all black, have a ton of piercing, tatoos, ect (in fact, I have none), or want to slit my wrist. I'm overly emotional. That's what emo meant. Emotional. Those emotions can be happy or sad for me. They're just more exaggerated than most people's. Emo does not mean that I'm depressed. Get it through your heads. I'm sorry, but people keep telling me how much they hate emo people because they're all depressed and stuff and that's not true!
Discuss: Emo people, incorrect sterio types, if something similar has happened to you

Over use of any stereotype is annoying. When the meaning of that stereotype gets twisted it's even more annoying.

What is "emo" anyways? I've heard so many people talk about being emo, but I have no idea what they mean. ~Margem
{And yes, I checked out the thread only because Mr.Ownage said (in the Crew Chat area) that this thread died.}

Someone who is "emo" is overly emotional. They are more in touch with their emotions with most people. They cry more easily, laugh more easily, get depressed more easily, ect.

But now people have changed the meaning to someone who looks like they want to be goth, is extremly depressed, and cuts their wrists.

It would be better if they'd stuck with the original meaning, or at least not made it cool to fit into the new stereotype.

In that case, I can be emo (as in emotional) but I'm not emo (as in goth/depressed/cutter). ~Margem

It's scary when you know that they could take their life at any time due to their depression... *nods sadly* I've been there. ~Margem

I wouldn't call myself emo. Just irritatingly-cheerful. Overly-cheerful. I have a strong happy-complex, though I lack depression. And compassion.
This is going to sound totally mean, but I find that those who are depressed and self-pitying are usually finding my nasty side. I've been having to assure and reassure people that they are not fat, not a midget, not horrendously tall, not grotesque what seems like all my life, and now-a-days, when people whinge about being obese when they certainly are not, I generally sneer, "Damn straight! You're fat, become anorexic!"
