The decision was not made from a single picture Raz thought as she shifted through the collection of images Solo had sent her.
She was glad her monochrome child was getting more comfortable going around the place by himself, and getting lost less. However, over seventy percent of the images now saved into her phone are from the pet store. A thought that never really took hold until just a moment ago when she realized how many pictures he had sent her of just the place, and its animal inhabitants. It’d be a lie if Raz said she wasn’t curious how long Solo lingers in front of the pet store. However, the images only gave her a brief time indication from one minute…to up to half an hour.
Was that why he would come home a little later than usual?
Raz made a mental note to ask later, but for now…there were quite a few decisions she needed to make.
“Well, that cuts down a couple of search results.” She mumbled before staring lazily at the screen before her. An assortment of houses were listed on the website, though Raz could only groan at them all. She had been eyeing the prices, and the townhouses listed for months. However, they had all been the same old, same old with no actual new listening outside of a few renews. She had thought of looking at houses, but remembering the hassle of weeding the grass made her think twice about that.
When did this notion started again? She wondered silently as she lay back on her sofa, her brows furrowed as she felt the phone in her hand shake. Another image of a new animal in the pet store, though it seems to be another cute, tiny furry creature (man, Solo really likes tiny, furry creatures doesn’t he), and it was back to looking at the laptop again.
When did she think about moving again?
Oh right. More room.
The notion didn’t really come up until she realized the house wasn’t handling just her stuff anymore. Solo might have his own room, but the space they both share were limited and she had thought some extra space might do both of them some good… maybe an activity room or an extra bathroom since her current apartment only has one. And now including the fact that she needed to consider if Solo was going to get a pet, a bigger house might be a good idea.
A loud sigh escaped her as she looked through the listings again with a rub of her eye.
The ideal location would be somewhere close to their current residence since Solo had finally gotten used to the locations of everything. However, a little further shouldn’t be a problem…and he’s a big boy who can look after himself. She let out a slight chuckle at the mental comment, but snapped up from her searching as the lock turned on the door.
“Welcome home.” She greeted as Solo locked the door behind him. A grin was pleasantly on his face as he floated over to take up the spot right beside her,“So! Guess what I found today!”

His eyes lingered on the guitar in its stand as the silence of the house echoed. Raz had work today and he didn’t feel like wondering the mall again for the umpteenth time. Even the pet store could only be interesting for so long before it just becomes…sad. Yeah, that’s the best way to put it. Seeing some of those animals get older and having no one to pick them was strangely upsetting now that he thought about it, but there’s not much he could do. However, staying at home wasn’t much better.
At home, he could do a lot of things to take up time, but it always felt…too quiet?
Perhaps he’s just used to Raz’s boisterous voice being there most of the time, but it becomes very apparently when she’s not around. Solo would occasionally turn on the radio in hopes of filling out that silence with something, anything really. However, the sounds from the radio always becomes interrupted by the commercial breaks…or Solo’s own personal inquiry on how do you play that song?
Despite how long he had lived with Raz, he hadn’t really shown any interest in what his mom did, did he.
A soft hum escaped him as he thought more on the prospect of playing an instrument. The times he had been to her work place, he just looked through scores and remembered being confused how those papers could become the things that bring forth songs. It felt magical, but none of the instruments really interested him. Well, none of them did but the guitar. For an instrument, it seemed like it would take up a lot of space…but it wasn’t so big it wasn’t transportable. Though he had never seen anyone carry around such a thing unless they’re performing somewhere…
Hmmmm…
At home, Raz has a guitar and a piano in the house. He knows she can play both, though he had never actually tried to use either of them. Now that he was thinking about it…why didn’t he? He knows Raz wouldn’t have mind. However, he had always kept his distance. Like it was a separate thing from all the stuff he liked to do. Did he not like music?
That’s unlikely. He likes watching musicals and singing them with Raz way too much to dislike music.
So why didn’t he?
Perhaps he should…?
He turned his attention to the piano that resided right near the wall. Compared to the guitar, it was harder to mess up the instrument. There are not strings to worry, just keys. He just had to tap the keys right? He’s seen Raz play the piano, he knows (sort of) what to do.
Now the only issue was…
Solo floated towards the piano with a look of determination of confusion on his face. Raz had left her scores on the piano again but, dear god, what type of language was that? What do the dots even mean? Why are some of them connected? What’s with the numbers and the random letters? His hand reached out to lift up the lid that hid the keys, and sat down on the chair with a look of pure determination.
It was like reading code.
…
“Maybe we should start with learning the notes?”
Solo turned around sharply to see a grinding Raz with her coat in her one hand. He turned red like a child caught with his hand in the cookie jar, but Raz seemed more then fine with what he was doing. Solo sat still as he watched his guardian put away her coat and her shoes, and then went over towards him. Raz had taken her bag with her, and propped it onto the ground beside the piano with a soft “thud”. That noise made Solo stare at it, wondering how heavy it was, while Raz dug through to pull out a book on piano scales.
“Let’s start with the basic, shall we?” she asked with a smile. It takes a moment before the information went through Solo’s mind, and he nodded with a grin. “Hell yeah!”
“First things first, let’s get you used to reading the score and knowing what note means what key…”
The lesson continued up until dinner time.
