The grey avian's head jerked around nervously as she fluttered to the ground. She was desperately hungry, but did not at all want to meet any large predators. Which the world was full of. And Yona just knew that one of them was absolutely determined to grab a mouthful of her. Not that she'd be much more than a mouthful for some of the big cats in particular that she'd seen...

...and none of this was helping her get those delicious worms and insects out of the hard ground. With one last look around, the bird bent to her work.

She had never been the best huntress, and until she had stumbled upon the blind lion who had granted her succor, she had never eaten well either. Scrawny and most certainly a runt of her litter, Bahati was the definition of small, and while her coat now held a healthy glow, no amount of food was going to increase her size. Suffice to say that the ebony lioness was going to remain at a small stature forever!

Nevertheless, she had come to terms, a compliment of the healthy influence the Ela had played in her life. With their influence her confidence had grown and she was getting braver; brave enough even, to attempt hunt on her own. Granted she didn't expect to catch anything but she did want to work on it, perhaps improve enough to provide assistance rather than being a 'burden' so to speak.

...Thus, it was from her crouched position in the grass that she kept her gaze fixed on the bird. Sadly, she still didn't have the expertise though and it wasn't long before her sore muscles caused her to shift and snap a small twig under paw.

The worm was absolutely refusing to leave the ground, despite Yona's insistent tugging on it. She was preparing to yank yet again when she heard the tiny sound of a twig snapping.

Some creatures would have waited to see what the culprit was. Yona was of the opinion that she could look after she'd gotten away. Grey wings flapped frantically to gain height and the worm was forgotten.

Once she'd gotten as high as the scrubby trees that dotted the plain, the bird began to circle as she tried to calm her racing heart. Now she could see something, a big black predator. Yikes!

Noooooo!

It was just her luck that the bird was a skittish one! She had seen others hunt, and they had always seemed to be able to spot the ones that wouldn't dart away immediately. Was it the way they looked, smelled, acted? She was clearly missing something and it was with a quiet sigh of defeat that she nudged the twig away from her paw and padded out of her hiding place.

Well, she couldn't fault the bird for what it had done - Yona had fled in much the same way as Bahati would have done (and still did to this day) when she was unsettled. In the bird's case there was nothing safer than the sky, right? She flicked her gaze upwards to the circling bird and then back down to where it had been standing.

Ah, so was this what they ate? She began to dig the worm out with her law to inspect it thoughtfully... It wasn't much different than the scraps she used to eat.

"Hey!" the bird called out in frustrated despair. That was her meal! Hers! This big predator should go find something else to eat! That also wasn't Yona!

"You should go hunt elsewhere, you big meanie!" the grey bird screeched, circling above what she judged to be the bigger creature's range. What Yona really wanted to do was to flap her wings in the other's face and take back her hard-earned worm. But she couldn't shake th efeeling that if she tried such a daring maneuver, the predator would catch her and eat her.

"Big meanie...?" Bahati paused, still holding the worm in her paw as she tilted her head up to observe the bird. The tone hadn't been lost on her, but Bahati's expression was one of confusion as she observed the avian. Why should she hunt elsewhere, she was allowed to hunt here, no one had told her she wasn't allowed to before!

"But this is our hunting grounds," she pointed out slowly and shook her head. "Why should I hunt elsewhere, I'm allowed to be here!" she continued, with a little more confidence than she was generally accustomed to. Ah, but being in a pride really was a good influence on her. "Are you sure you're allowed to be here?" she added and raised her brow.

"You don't look like a bird who associates with the Ela!"

Yona clacked her beak in annoyance, still coasting on the thermals well out of the lion's reach. Permission! As if any bird needed any kind of permission to fly where they pleased! She didn't know what the Ela was, but whatever it was didn't matter. What mattered was that the big meanie had destroyed her chance at getting the worm!

"I don't need permission to fly anywhere!" she informed the predator. "But you shouldn't hunt here because you're scaring the worms!" Not to mention that the grey avian wouldn't dare actually land again until she was sure the lion was gone for good.
