There was a lot that Eris found fascinating about toes. She picked at the little white beans attached to her paw, flicking her claws out like the pattern to a song. The stark contrast between white and the darker gray of her legs made it seems as if they had been removed from a white lion for her mother’s own amusement. It caused her to smile at the absurdity.
Lying on her back in the grass, she kicked her hind legs into the air, pulling on the toes with her forepaws. Safi had left her to her own devices that day, and so she had spent most of it pondering the use of toes in the dry wetlands of the Koti.

Nanth was sort of relieved. The It had taken a while to get used to Mpenzi leaving, but not long after, Chozi bounced in with a new pair of children. He hadn't left again, though, expect for the visits he would return with blood still dripping from open wounds in his body and this glowing smile on his face.

She wasn't quite used to anything anymore. The lands were shifting and drying and everyone was worried. It wore on her a bit, so instead of keeping an eye on the new litter, she wandered about, searching for something to take her mind from the troubles.

Running a bored paw playfully through her fluorescent made kept Eris from losing herself entirely. She rolled onto her stomach in the once plush fauna, feeling the crunch of the drying plants crumpling under her weight. When she rose she stretched, pushing her toes into the dry ground.

It was then that she saw a cheetah on the prowl. Tilting her head to the side, then the other and back to the original tilt Eris slowly grinned. It spread out across her cheeks like a Chesire, so twisted was her glee. She moved in closer, smile still in place, and a dazed look about her. “Are you a spirit come to taint the land?”

Seaki
Nanth was a bit surprised at the presence of the female - she'd never seen the other before and she frowned. Perhaps she was new? The small cheetah was sorely out of the loop. It probably came with spending most of her time with small cubs. Especially the newest little one, who appeared more cheetah than not.

"A spirit?" She asked, rocking on her toes. No, she wasn't a spirit or an omen, though the presence of one made a lot of sense to her. The lands felt sick under her paws, but she didn't quite know what to do to fix it.

A spirit, yes. A pelt like the drowned dead on a frame so small." Eris moved closer to her, and walk around in a half circle. Her eyes took in the look of the cheetah's toes on the dry land. "Does the spirit usually repeat fragments of questions asked of it?" Curiosity ran heavy in the lioness to the point of rudeness. She stopped to look at the other female, her mustache like maw crinkled in mirth.

Nanth gave a huff, frowning. She twisted, watching the lioness circle her. It was baffling to say the least. She had no idea what the lioness was speaking about. "Fragments of questions?" she asked, confused.

But then, she realized. She'd fallen right into the speech pattern the lioness had noted. "What do you mean by spirit," she was a little affronted. She was quite solid, not an omen or anything, thank you very much!

There was a hesitancy in Eris' steps that suggested remorse for her words, but it was stopped fairly quickly with a short burst of laughter. "You see! The way you talk is very unusual. Always with repetition." She waved her paw into the air at a vague sweep. "This land is dying and the only souls that would wish to stay here are those that have already passed on, don't you think?" Eris sat beside the cheetah as if they were old friends and studied her toes once more.

Nanth, if she was honest, was a little unnerved by the lioness. Perhaps the lioness was a Seer? Like the council of the pride. It would make sense. She didn't think she talked quite so oddly either. "The land is sick," She agreed. "But it can get better. It's not so dead yet," she argued. This was her home now, the lands were sick, yes, but it was far from dead. She would fight tooth and claw to make sure this land flourished once again. Even if it meant her own sacrifice.

She didn't think it would come to that though - not yet. She wasn't at the end of her bonds yet, she still had hope.

"Yes child, I see that." Eris tapped the dry ground with her paws. Perhaps she was mentally ill? She didn't seem to quite know what to say and stating the obvious was becoming a key trait. "If you say so." The way she said it was as if she were talking to a child. Looking around her she saw Safi on the horizon, as pensive as ever, and it brought a little grin to her face. "Well, best of luck to you. I hope you don't stay in purgatory long." She stood, stretched out her limbs, and gave the cheetah a lasting look before returning to Safi's side.

The Cheetah frowned after the lioness. It was an... odd conversation to say the least. Perhaps she should return to the cubs now... She shook her head, standing as she watched the lioness leave. She couldn't even grace the lioness with a response, being absolutely confused about the entire situation.

With a baffled expression, she made her way home. She had a lot to think on, after all, trying to make sense of what the lioness meant. Perhaps it would be clearer in the morning…
