Aurel was getting real tired of Parker's s**t. He was about to just give up and say Jack it when he kicked aside a piece of equipment and saw something that looked like it would fit on the console in the other room.

It had to be it. Because otherwise, he was going to murder the Fracs and kill them all in the process. Seriously.

He picked it up and turned it around in his hands - OK. Better work.

[ ROOM 201 ]

Back in 201 he did the only thing he could think of doing. Shoving the piece (gently) onto where it seemed to have been missing from and stared at it expectantly.

The panel fits perfectly onto the machine and clicks in to place with ease. The moment it's in place, the annoyingly familiar 8-bit tune stops rather abruptly, and for a moment is rather silent. You briefly wonder if you broke it, and you turn to leave -

The sound comes back in deafening shriek that tapers off as if it were glitching. The screen twists and turns, struggling between showing a picture and white noise. Eventually the picture wins, and you can see, clear as day, a Key with the letter 'E' on it. It flashes once, twice, and then disappears entirely as the words 'DO YOU WISH TO PLAY? YES: X NO: O' scroll across the screen.

Yes:
You hit the X button, and the word "YES" flashes across the screen once, twice, and then disappears entirely. The words "OK. LET'S BEGIN" scroll next, and for a few moments after that, there is nothing but silence and a black screen. You wait with baited breath for it to return, and are finally treated to another scroll of words:

"LIFE IS RISK."

"YOUR FREEDOM WILL BE AT A PRICE."

"ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK, AND PAY THE PRICE?"

The screen flashes again, with "YES: X NO: O"

Yes:
You hit the X button, and the word "YES" flashes across the screen once, twice, and then disappears again entirely. Once more the screen is black for a good few seconds, and when it returns, it says "CHOOSE ONE:" followed by a scrolling list of thirteen names.

The OOC

- With your post, use the RNG (ie choose 'random number' instead of 'roll dice') and have it range from 1 to 13. Whoever you roll will be the person to select.
  • 1 - Spiridon
  • 2 - Ulka Ursa
  • 3 - Lutz
  • 4 - Marzena
  • 5 - Llyrendil
  • 6 - Genevieve
  • 7 - Pachua
  • 8 - Remi
  • 9 - Amphitrite
  • 10 - Mathias
  • 11 - Aurel
  • 12 - Brenley
  • 13 - Taiki

The name you chose flashes across the screen, followed by their photo. The name is gone but the photo remains, staring directly at you. It lingers there for a few seconds before it warps into something else; what was once a pleasant face is now torn with visible pain; wrecked with bruises, sliced open with bleeding cuts, their eyes wet as if they had been sobbing as the photo was taken. This image lasts for a second or two before it vanishes, leaving behind the words:

"ARE YOU WILLING TO LET THEM PAY THE PRICE?"

"YES: X NO: O"

Yes:
You hit the O button, and the word "YES" flashes across the screen twice before it vanishes again. It is replaced by the words: "VERY WELL." The screen goes black. The room falls eerily silent and then, in the next room, you hear a scream. A tormented, tortured scream: only it isn't the person you had selected to pay the price. No, this scream is someone else entirely, and you recognize them right away. Your blood runs cold and a panic grips your chest; that couldn't have been them, right? It couldn't be. There's no way...right...?

The tormented, horrified screams and shouts of pain fade away, and the game screen comes back to life:

"LIFE IS RISK. YOUR FREEDOM COMES AT A PRICE."

You hear gears spinning from within the machine, and after a series of clunks, something falls out of the machine and lands on your foot. You stoop to pick it up, and...

The OOC

Someone you care for greatly - someone who isn't trapped in here with you - is screaming in the room marked 201-A. They sound tortured and in pure agony, but just out of reach.

Was it worth hearing them die?

  • Roll a 1d100 in a new post:
1-80: The object that fell against your foot looks like the same key that had flashed on the screen at the beginning of this horrible game. You stoop to pick it up, but the moment you do, you realize something about it: it's not metal. It's foam. Bendable, painted foam. It won't open anything.
81-100: The object that fell against your foot looks like the same key that had flashed on the screen at the beginning of this horrible game. You stoop to pick it up, and are almost relieved to feel the metal in your hands, solid and reassuring. It has an 'E' printed on it.
  • Please note that the actual key is a one time find. The first person who rolls between 81-100 and quotes The Escaped gets it! If they real key has already been found, the only thing that will come out of this machine now is the foam keys.

Somehow, you don't think it was worth the risk. You glance at the door to 201-A, where you heard the screaming; the light under the door is still flickering, but it looks like there is a dark, thick substance beginning to seep from the other room...

The game shuts down and refuses to start for you again; the light in the room goes out entirely. It seems like it's time to leave.

No:
You hit the O button, and the word "NO" flashes across the screen once, twice, and again disappears entirely. The words "CHOOSE ONE" scroll across the screen, again followed by the same thirteen names.

Quote:
You have two options:

You may either go back and re-roll a new victim, or you may hit O once more to exit the game. If you choose to re-roll, simply go back to the 'yes' prompt above this one and continue on down the spoiler tree.

You have unlimited re-rolls for a new victim. The game will always prompt you to either choose someone, or leave entirely. If you exit the game, the game shuts down and will not open for you again.

No:
You hit the O button, and the word "NO" flashes across the screen once, twice, and then disappears entirely. The words "VERY WELL. GOOD BYE. GOOD LUCK." are next to scroll. The game shuts down. It will not respond to you again. With no other choice left, you leave the room.

You hit the O button, and the word "NO" flashes across the screen once, twice, and then disappears entirely. The words "GOOD BYE" are next to scroll. The game shuts down. It will not respond to you again. With no other choice left, you leave the room.

Welcome to the Game(??) Room!

This is a self-driven room, meaning that any attempts to search it further will be fruitless and not have any further prompt responses outside of what is written above. You may complete this as a group (rp while you search) or as a solo. It can be broken down into as many posts as you need, so long as you remember to keep the code below at the top of each and every post!

Please remember to put the following code at the top of your post while you are in this room:

[ ROOM 201 ]

Aurel stared dumbly at the console, not really understanding what was going on. The music started and then it stopped. All that work and it was broken still? Where was Mathias? Or someone to help him figure this out? Gene?

He narrowed his eyes and turned to leave - only stopping when the SHRIEK caught his attention and he jumped, turning back around to look at the game.

The key. That was a key.

Yes? No?

Aurel pressed X. Repeatedly.

Words scrolled across the game but, unfortunately, Aurel could only read bits and pieces of it. Nothing of it actually made sense except the Yes and No.

He kept pressing X. Just give him the key already.

A picture of the skeleton boy that he saw earlier popped up onto the screen. What did he have to do with it? Aurel frowned. And then the picture changed - a picture he really didn't want to see - cut, bruised, sobbing. Nobody should look like that

But he'd been spamming the X button and didn't stop in time to choose O. More words flashed and then the screen went black. No. No. He pressed O over and over again, but the light didn't come back on. He pressed the button so much the button jammed inside the game and he still kept trying to press it.

"No, no, I meant no! I did not mean yes!" Aurel cried at the game, kicking it a few times with his bare feet. "Do not hurt him!"

Silence fell over the room - the kind of silence that made one uneasy. Aurel stared at the game, unsure what was happening. He was about to hit the game again when a scream pierced the air. That wasn't a boil's scream, either. For a split second he was simultaneously relieved and horrified...until his world went still and his blood ran cold.

That was Amrita's voice. He'd know that ghoul's voice anywhere.

No. No it couldn't be. That was impossible. She wasn't here! She couldn't be. He hadn't seen her and they had all been in a room and...

Aurel abandoned the game and ran toward the door where those horrible sounds were coming from. "AMRITA!" he screamed out, pounding on the door with his fists. "STOP! DO NOT HURT HER PLEASE! HURT ME INSTEAD!"

It was his fault.

He was panicking and couldn't breathe.

Aurel turned from the door, picking up his sledge hammer and smashing it into the door as hard as he could - it was all he could think of doing.

He had to get to Amrita.

For once, nothing tried to stop Aurel - it seemed that their Host and Captor was currently focused elsewhere, and away from his post of guarding the participants to make sure they don't do anything stupid.

Like this.

The sledge hammer hit the door over and over, and eventually it began to bend under the assault - then, finally, the head of it broke through, creating a hole big enough to reach into.

With the door finally giving in and making a hole where the hammer hit, Aurel looked into the room from the hole, hoping to Jack he didn't see his friend's body laying somewhere. He was still panicking - he needed to see that nothing was there.

Aurel looked into the room from the hole

All Aurel could see from the splintered doorway was a wall of twenty-four glowing squares above what looked like a desk. The room was otherwise dark.

"Amrita?" He said, voice afraid - was she in there? Was she dead? If she was dead she obviously wouldn't answer. Aurel pulled back and took the sledge hammer, slipping it through the door's hole and pulling, trying to make a bigger hole. The boil was trying to calm down, but he wasn't even thinking about reaching in to, you know, unlock the door.

Dumb boil.

Silence met Aurel's fearful question.

The door, however, was much easier to break now that an original hole had been made, and so the hole did indeed get larger.

"What do you think you're doing?" The Fracs was, as it tended to be, right behind Aurel, sitting with its head tilted nearly to its shoulder.

"My friend. I heard my friend!" He said, panic still in his eyes and lacing his voice. He looked toward the Fracs with those wild, impossibly bright green eyes. "I need to make sure she is okay. Please."

The Fracs righted its head, staring in silence at the frantic boil for a moment or two longer.

"What'll you do for me, if I let you in that room unharmed?"

"What do you want?" He asked, "I do...do not really care what happens to me so long as my friend is alive and safe."

Because he was useless and expendable and as long as the people he cared about were safe that was all that mattered.

Aurel paused, "I heard her scream. I saw blood. Prove to me she is alive, here, and you can have my exit key." He was not going to give up other people's freedom if his friend was already dead.
