GaaSaku makes my blood boil.

Not only do the two never speak to one another (unless you count him using her to bait Naruto into fighting him, or the non-canon scene of him sneaking up on her in the hospital), but they have incompatible personalities as well.

Now see, I can support a good crack pairing, if given some sort of evidence that it could possibly work out under the right circumstances. Diplomatic Relations is a perfect example of this: It made me into an unwilling (but affectionate) LeeGaa fan, because Maldoror is quite possibly one of the best authors in the fandom, and not only made the pairing seem plausible, but kept both characters perfectly, PERFECTLY in-character.

I've yet to see a GaaSaku, or any het pairing of his, seem even remotely possible. So I ask the supporters out there (if there are any here), why? I'd like some clarification as to how someone started looking and this and went all "Awwww, they'd make a cute couple!"

Or like-minded people may rant here. ...I'd like to see that too XD.

well, its just one of those things that would never happen...thats why there are so many supporters. sweatdrop (not to mention that theres also gaa/hina......... xp

hmmmmm, I like the pairing because Gaara is in need of somebody who loves him and Sakura would need somebody after what happens with Sasuke.
So I like them as a pair.
Another reason would be that she reminded him of Yashamaru.....maybe?

you can see scenes in both the manga and anime where you could say:
hmmm? do I see a possibility there? eek heart heart heart

but I'm not such a strong GaaaSaku fan, though I enjoy it nevertheless wink

I'm also on the "Sasuke is an evil b*****d" bandwagon, trust me. I do try to not let my personal beliefs get in the way in what I view as a valid pairing.

I hate NaruSaku with a burning passion, but for the sake of debate, it is plausible. NaruHina, as you said, is infinitely more so, and I've never disliked Hinata at any point (she's so cuuuuute <3), so I'm more of a supporter of that than the former. I'm more of a KibaHina fan, though.

I just find something creepy and incestous in being attracted to a woman because she reminds you of your uncle. ...Mind you, I don't think Gaara owns the social knowledge to see anything wrong with that, but it irks me as a concept.

I'm genuinely pleased at that! It's really not often I get to do this sort of thing without someone getting really annoyed with me and telling me to shut up XD. I appreciate it.

Canon-wise, I'm not really sure anyone would. Gaara lacks a certain finesse when it comes to interacting with people. His fangirls all squee over him because he's "hot," and they'd totally be his girlfriend because of that. He does have some attractive characteristics that are draws as well: he's broody, he's powerful, he's the frikkin' Kazekage, but he's more than just someone to squee over.

His fangirls either forget or ignore the fact that he's an emotional wasteland and has some serious issues that are almost certainly not going to clear up. Though he's stable now, and will remain so as it anchors him to reality and allows him to form bonds that give his life meaning, that broken and manic thing is still there, albeit under control.

Anyone who deserves Gaara would have to, most pressingly, be able to deal with these things, as well as the fact he's not at all romantic, is staggeringly blunt about everything, "has the empathy of a chunk of sandstone", and is paranoid, possessive, and rude. He unabashedly stares at people. He's prone to stalking. They're part of his character, and anyone who writes him otherwise doesn't really like Gaara. They just like the fact that he's a pretty, pale, redhead who can control sand, and then bastardize him by pretending he'd give you flowers, chocolate, and a grand romantic declaration of love. For that, you'd need Lee, but most fangirls don't like him because he's not pretty enough (and that's a rant for another time XD.)

I don't think Gaara would take the initiative to start a romantic relationship with someone -- He hasn't got the life experiences for that to appeal to him, and probably wouldn't understand exactly what a romantic relationship would imply.

This means the responsibility to start something would be up to the pursuer -- They'd have to be stubborn, and willing to put up with his issues, not try to change him and just erase that part of his character. They'd need considerable patience, and have an infallible trust in Gaara's overall stability -- Most people, honestly, would probably be scared off by a mental breakdown or two, or try and stick him in therapy or something. They'd need kindness and love.

Arguably, Sakura can be all of these things. However, for Gaara to be able to enter a successful relationship with someone, he'd, above everything else, have to trust them. Implicitly trust them. He won't open up easily, and certainly not for someone who hasn't really made a strong impact on him.

The people who've impacted him have all been male, save his sister. I'm not saying Gaara is gay, as I don't believe that any of the interest he'd shown in the stronger Genin during the Chuunin exams was at all sexual, but the people who he noticed were all male. First Sasuke, then Lee, and finally Naruto.

The first two were the first people to ever physically hurt him, and he was obsessed with that. He wanted to kill Lee, not out of spite (...well, maybe a little), but out of some twisted train of thought that killing him would somehow further justify and give meaning to his existence, and since Lee had been strong enough to injure him, would be more fufilling.

That's the train of thought that accompanies his Sasuke obsession, as he can tell that Sasuke would be even stronger, and hence, a worthy kill. I percieve it as a bit like that tribal belief that eating a strong enemies heart would give you his strength and valor. ...Just in less creepy terms.

Naruto made the biggest impact on him though, and inspired him to change into something more mature and for lack of better words, domesticated. He defeated him to protect his "precious, important people," and Gaara realized that his way of "loving" only himself was the incorrect way about getting stronger.

So canon-wise, I think that Naruto is the most likely candidate at this point. However, I don't think Gaara, or Naruto, for that matter, are mature enough to be able to handle that sort of thing yet. Plus, SasuNaru is so canon by now it's totally not even funny anymore, so I don't really think that it could ever grow into something more than one-sided at best, but it's still a thoroughly wonderful possibility, and I can't wait to see where Kishimoto is taking the Sasuke is an emo b***h plot so I can further overanalyze this.

...I totally just wrote an essay. English AP does funny things to a person's way of thinking.

And as for Sai? All you need to know is he's fixated on Naruto's crotch, and Naruto doesn't think he's as pretty as Sasuke. ...I'm not even joking a little. This is pure canon.

No one likes Sai except Orochimaru, who's a total *****>

Out of curiousity, which fanfics? I've never really seen any that are really of merit (I lurk around of FF.Net), so I'm open to reccomendations. I have shipped because of convincing and well-written fanfiction before, so I'd really like to see their arguments for it within that context.

And thank goodness the fillers are ending soon! I think I might cry out of sheer joy.
