Well, the WASL is here. Since I am a freshman at Mount Si High School I only had to take two practice WASLs while the sophomores took it and the juniors and seniors slept in. Now we get a stupid presentation on Cyber Safety.
Oh yes, I have to pass it to graduate, but that won't be hard.
What are your thoughts on the WASL?

When I took it, no one took that test seriously. It was in the pilot stage. I remember people failing the essay portion because they decided to screw the directions and write about whatever they wanted.

I honestly think it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. I didn't have to pass it to graduate (class of '06, so...) but a bunch of my friends do. And at my school they let some of the freshmen take it if A) they're in at least Intergrated 2 and B) they did really well on the 7th grade WASL. My boyfriend's taking it, which I guess is a good idea... get it out of the way or whatever.
I still think it's a stupid test though. I mean, seriously, if EVERYONE has to pass the test, is that really a gauge of what you know? No. It's more of a gauge of what they've force-fed you in order to pass a standardized test.

Dooms day
Doom our soothsayers say ever closer to its day a prize to praise they say heaven can only be obtained through the WASL
The WASL is funny and I laugh and feel sorry for the poor people that need to pass it. Not like its that hard though. Oh and I wrote the poem last year when I had to take the WASL.

I got above average on every subject in the WASL and I was doing everything half-assed. It was one of the easiest things I've ever done.
@Jargoss: That's an awesome poem xd

I'm home schooled, correspondence actually, so I've never taken it. I hear people speak of it with dread though.
Nice poem.

I think its totally unfair. ONE POINT can decide wether you fail or not, and that aint not right, people.

No complaints about the WASL here. Every year I took it, it was easy. Every year I didn't take it, I had shorter periods for the week. The only ones screaming bloody murder over the damn thing are those too stupid to pass and their parents.

We shouldn't have the WASL; if the government want to gauge our success, then use a nationwide test!

I don't exactly have many issues with the WASL. I think it's rather stupid, as well as painfully easy, but we needed something, so that's what we got. Quite frankly, now that it's gotten out that if you don't pass the WASL, it's not a guarantee that you won't graduate, that there'll be alternatives, I think things are going to go to hell. No one is considering that you have to not pass five times, which means sitting through the test five times, and then there will be an alternative most likely more tedious and difficult than the test itself (which I recognize is difficult for some).
I don't nessicarily disagree with their decission to do this, some people are just really bad at taking tests; they get too stressed. However, perhaps they ought to send out a news letter keeping us posted on the events. I can understand why they would wait until everything is finalized, but since there are many kids who know now, and know only half the story at that (their brains switched off the minute they heard they didn't have to pass) they ought to make sure that the Sophmores of next year won't totally screw up due to mis-information. This may not be a problem at many people's schools, but it seems to be one at mine. Or at least, I see it as being a potential problem, the way my classmates have been talking.
I suppose the only real thing I have against the WASL is that I can't use my trusty mechanical pencil... sweatdrop

The WASL was a pain..Glad it's over. And the fact that you have to pass it to graduate will only cause a higher drop out rate..
