AsterKurayami well improvement takes practice. I look at my old artwork and I'm just gonk Critiques are fantastic in a classroom setting though. (Art major) It's a free for all pointing out pros and cons of the artwork there will always be someone who hates it and someone who loves it, but it's nice to hear educated responses and the reasons why things work or don't work. Also it feels much less like an attack and more like constructive criticism.
I'm pretty close to self taught. There wasn't even art class at my elementary school. My "lessons" have mostly been reading tutorials on dA, so it's nice to interact with artists as far as learning and critiques go. I've only recently been meeting artists kind enough to do that for me though. For the longest time it was just friends telling me how great I was which I hated because it helped nothing.
