If Tim had to listen to his brother rant nonstop for one more mile, he was going to start shredding some ears. Specifically the ears of his brother. Maybe the face too. Oooh, what he wouldn't love to give a big swat ride on the side of Dik's face. The lion cast his gaze to the leopard trotting behind him, huffing slightly in exasperation. No, they weren't the same species. They weren't brothers by blood, but brothers in combat, a bond that Tim was willing to bet was stronger than family, considering how his biological father had treated him in the end. No, he and Dik had both been raised and trained by a highly skilled fighter, albeit at very different times. By the time Tim had come along, Dik had moved on to doing his own thing, and Tim had taken the leopard's place as the Bat's protege. "I mean, I'm just saying. You can't go on an adventure and NOT have some super secret love affairs. It's part of an adventure! Ya know, find beautiful cat in distress, save beautiful cat in distress, and then sleep with beautiful-" "Dik!" Tim interrupted with a growl. He was not having this conversation with his older brother. Of the people to escort him back home, it had to be the most talkative, annoying, unbearable hero Tim knew.
The leopard shot a glare at Tim. Yeesh. You'd think it was a crime to bond with your brother after he disappears for a year. Talk about touchy. Dik would just have to weed the information out of him later on. He was good at that. He was, after all, one of the Bat's successors. Apart from the Bat himself, there wasn't anyone better! Well, apart from Tim. Tim had always been smarter, sharper, and witty. But Dik could take him on in a fight any day. They balanced each other out. That was what made them brothers. He was so ecstatic that Tim was finally coming home. "You know, we're not supposed to use real names outside pride borders, Robin." The leopard drawled. "Someone could use our identity against us." Dik said in a gravelly voice, imitating their old mentor's voice. All his humour earned him was an eye-roll. "Red Robin, actually." "Oh, right." Dik had gone through his own name-changing phase. It was all a part of becoming your own hero, he supposed. Though speaking of names... Dik slowed to a stop, ears pricked. Someone was nearby, talking to someone named "Pep." Huh. Male voice. Mate troubles? Dik didn't think they were in a pride's territory. At least, this wasn't pride territory when he had left to find Tim. But things could change. It would be good to investigate. He changed course towards the voice, not bothering to be stealthy as he stamped through the brush. Better to let the noise announce their approach and risk any unnecessary confrontation. "Di...Nightwing, where are you going?" Tim demanded with a sigh. Dik gave him a grin. "Investigating! I hear voices. Come on, live a little." Tim gave him another scowl before padding after him. Tail lashing in frustration.

Tim sputtered indignantly as Dik burst out with laughter. "Couple? No!" Tim shuddered just thinking about it, too busy trying to block out awful mental images to take offense at the jibe about their markings. "We're brothers, actually." He corrected, ears pinned to his skull. Tim was never the best with strangers. He was trying to be, something he had been working on during his time alone. But when Dik was involved, Tim never seemed to be able to properly focus. The lion took some deep, easy breaths, getting himself back into his normal calm, cool exterior.
Dik managed to get his sniggering under control, giving the other lion a grin to match the smirk. He liked this lion! Reminded him a little of Bruus, the Bat. Well, that is, if Bruus was more social and cocky. "You've got sharp eyes there, Detective Gold-face." Dik puffed out his chest a little, showing off the bird marking. He always loved that marking. It only fit that Tim shared a bird marking on his shoulder. It secured their brotherly-bond, in a way. "Name's Nightwing, and..." "Red Robin." Tim interjected. Dik snorted, earning him a glare from the younger male. "And we're just passing through. What about yourself? Waiting for your significant other to to forgive you for whatever you've done wrong this time?"
Tim shot a glance in Dik's direction. Oh yes, brilliant. Insult the stranger. That will go well, Tim thought with the barest twitch of his lips into a scowl. "What he means is, we're not used to seeing others in this area, so high up in the mountains." Dik never had been one for subtlety.

Tim felt his eye twitch. No. This was not possible. Dik had managed to find an alternate version of himself out in the middle of nowhere. The lion shot a glare at his brother, glaring at the sniggering leopard. Tim redirected his attention the stranger, Iarannmann, listening to the other lion's words. Something big must have happened for an entire pride to relocate like that. Some sort of disaster, perhaps, or maybe an invasion. It warranted looking into. Tim would have to ask Dik if there was any intelligence on the subject later on. Tim had heard of a pride living amongst a swamp before, but he didn't know enough about them to be able to discern whether or not this was the same pride. Plus considering how long he had been gone...either way, Tim was eager for them to be on their way. "Apologies, but we simply can't..."
"Can't leave without chatting for a little bit!" Dik interrupted enthusiastically, a toothy grin on his face. It wasn't often that Dik was able to find someone else to tag-team with in annoying Tim. Usually Tim and Bruus were the ones annoying him! Any opportunity to reverse that was one that simply had to be taken. "We can talk about our love troubles, past romances, the complex beauty that is a relationship!" The leopard sighed dramatically, flopping down onto a nearby rock. The heat of the stone face warmed his belly delightfully. "Come now, Rob, every bird needs a chance to nest for a bit during a long migration. Right Iaran?" He teased, giving his brother his best puppy-dog eyes.
Tim set his jaw, trying to keep his face neutral when all he wanted to do was snarl and swipe at his brother. The lion lowered his rump to the ground stiffly, sitting upright as straight as a rod, not in the least bit relaxed.

Dik nearly burst out with laughter as Tim's face went completely blank. "Male troubles...oh goodness...." The leopard sniggered under his breath. Iaran couldn't have gotten more close to the bullseye if he had tried. Dik knew there was a certain lion back home who Tim was more than eager to go back and see. More eager than he was to see the rest of friends. He made a mental note to spy on Tim when that reunion happened. That is, if it didn't happen as soon as they hit pride borders, of course. Dik hadn't been the most secretive about his mission when he left. He hadn't told the whole pride either. Just one or two close individuals...who happened to be the biggest gossips Dik knew. Besides himself. "Filter, schmilter. We're all friends here!" He chuckled.
Friends? Tim had always been taught by Bruus that he had to be ready to fight his friends if the situation called for it. One of those situations was about to happen, the lion thought with a calming breath. Walking back with Dik was going to be hell now, he just knew it. The cry had both the brothers on their feet, teeth bared and claws unsheathed in a split second. Tim scanned the immediate area quickly, but found no signs of any approaching strangers. He locked eyes with Dik momentarily. Looks like he was going back into action sooner than he thought. "We should probably go investigate that." Tim said quietly, keeping his voice lowered just in case there was, in fact, someone nearby. "It could be someone else in your pride. Your mate isn't around, is she? The area could be dangerous now."

Tim raised an eyebrow. It would seem like Pepper was someone who got into trouble a lot. But "Trouble hooo"? Oh god, it reminded him of all his awful days of catchphrases. One of the worst definitely had to be..."Teen Titans, go!" Dik whispered into his ear before dashing away to keep up with Iaran. Yep, that was the one. Tim sighed briefly before putting himself back into mission-mode. He bounded after the two other males, keeping slightly to the back to protect the rear. "Well, that's good, at least. Let's hope she's far away from whatever is going down." One hurt civilian would be bad enough. Not to mention this Iaran seemed pretty inclined to help. He certainly had a fighter's build, but Tim wasn't going to be able to trust him to take care of himself. He made a mental note to keep an eye on Iaran in case anything went down. "Smell anything, Nightwing?" Tim asked softly, hoping Iaran would get the message to keep his voice down. Ambushes were not fun experiences.
Dik padded along the opposite side of Iaran, but he was shoulder-to-shoulder with the other male. It was a good positioning tactic for escorting civilians. It looked casual enough to not cause suspicion, and allowed for most attack positions to be defended from. The leopard took a whiff of the air and shook his head. "Not a single scent. What about you?" He gave Iaran's shoulder a bump with his own, blue eyes never wavering in their scan of the surrounding area. It felt nice to be working with Tim again. Fighting crime, helping damsels in distress...well, Iaran didn't really qualify as a damsel. He seemed big enough to have some fighting prowess. But it didn't hurt to be careful. If fighting broke out, the less people injured, the better.
