Scientia
Hello God of Information
Everything you've ever known is stuck up here.
In your mind
And every secret is for sale
Every Secret that is.....
Except who you are.
Because the poor boy oh so long ago?
Died. All hail Scientia
Information was key to power. This was Scientia's code, his means of survival. If one knew something they could seize what they wanted from that piece of knowledge. For example. He knew that his number two, Sally, was actually thirty-ninth in line for the Lucidus Magus throne. Low enough that her disappearance from high society was not big news. However, that piece of knowledge had made Scientia bucket loads of money and influence in the passing years.
Another aspect of Scientia's job was that he controlled the flow of information. He never directly prevented the freedom of the press, seeing as how that would be detrimental to many of his plans. However sometimes an 'accidental' slip of the tongue by one of his agents could dominate the news for days. It allowed him to plot and plan with either everyone distracted away from him or everyone focused directly on him and his plans. The two best ways to hide.
So consider Scientia's surprise when he turned on the television that day. Sally was sitting next to him, her feet all over the table. He shook his head, ignoring his number two, and best waitress. Her outfit consisted of simple jeans and a t-shirt. Despite that, Scientia had pointed out many times that infact her tips went up if she wore somehting more provacative. Sally always responded with something about how Scientia was just trying to have a better chance at coping a feel. Which was ridiculous. While she was almost certainly an attractive person, there was no reason for Scientia to sexually assault her, as he himself felt no desire to do so. No, getting into arguements with her was most confusing, and he often avoided it.
But back to the television. The story that Scientia had leaked to the press was some of the same. Stocks rapidly shifting due to talks of war. Weapon manufacturers were booming, luxury goods were rapidly declining. Blah blah blah. However the reporter was focused on a picture of the floating island, Lucidus Magus.
"What's this about S?" Sally asked, her head tilted in a manner that suggested confusion.
"Well, considering that we are looking at what seems to be Lucidus Magus; my guess is that they have either declared war on Aes, a great possibility, or they mobilized their troops."
"Whatever S, just turn up the sound." Scientia did so, sighing loudly each time he pressed the up button on the volume.
"...... what do you make of the terrorist attacks?" The anchorman, could not have been older than thirty, asked, the screen split between the map, the anchorman, and the reporter.
"It is less of a terrorist attack, and more of a declaration of civil war. Indeed, the forces under Triesten Millagon are fighting loyalist forces on every city. Apparently the tweleve hour deadline was passed three hours ago, and the hills of the island have quickly fallen into the hands of the rebels." The rest of it was outlining which cities have fallen, and where the loyalists still held strong. The capital was the main surprise, having fallen completely to the Rebels; with the minor exception of the palace and embassies for other nations. Scientia curled his lips.
"My dear, I think it is time for our operatives to abandon Lucidus Magus. Surely Aes will respond in force; especially once Triesten takes the embassy and likely executes their ambassadors, and my spies will glean nothing useful if they are dead." Sally nodded, pushing herself off the desk, ready to make the calls. "Oh, and Sally?" The woman turned, cocking her head waiting for Scientia to speak. "Please do be careful." She nodded, and Scientia turned to his own world. "It seems the invisible man just became quite visible." He whispered; and the only one who could hear him, was himself.
