The white male stopped, doing his best to hide the horror of someone seeing them. Slowly he turned to look at the male... And felt a sick feeling, deep in the pit of his stomach. He trembled a moment, though it wasn't from fear, as his eyes dilated and in his mind he heard roars and screams of pain, anger, many things, a winged lion with lava dripping from cracks in its skin and fire glowing in its mouth and eyes, sweeping through a fog at another marked with waves and, while wingless, having long ears. Then he heard the flapping of the bat and came back from whatever vision of the past he'd had. "Oh... We be out for a walk, mate... Jus' relaxin' after goin' out on a piratin'." They called it a pirating, right? Like the Stormborn called it a Viking...

The rotund winged rodent managed to get to his paws and back into the air, albeit cumbersomely. He staggered through the air one direction, then another, fluttering above the heads of lions of both sorts. His very gait was partly why he felt so at home among the pirates. They moved much like he did, so he figured he wouldn't be thought so strange here. Generally speaking, he was right. Occasionally his odd way of flying was commented on, but generally he wasn't noticed.
However, his ability to fly was astonishingly bad tonight. He narrowly missed plunging into the water, dipped a wing in and then flung droplets everywhere as he zoomed back over land, and then tried to aim for a tree landing. These never worked, for obvious reasons. Either he slammed into the trunk, or he missed entirely. Tonight, he missed entirely, divebombing into the mane of one of the lions. Truly, it was amazing he was as fat as he managed, but the truth of it was, the pirates attracted plenty enough bugs to satisfy his voracious appetite, all without flying at all. Life was good for this little critter, even if he was caught in someone's mane just now.

Ru didn't like this. Like Kardas, he had a bad feeling about this and would prefer to hurry things up. There were entirely too many pirates around and one of them was bound to notice something.
"Hey, mates," he called softly to his band, hoping that they would realize he was trying to pretend to be a pirate and follow his lead. "What say we get away from the shore a bit?"
It galled him to deliberately head toward where he knew there would be a lot of pirates and to give up the relative camouflage afforded by the waves erasing his band's paw prints, but there were too many people on the beach. They would probably be better off moving through the jungle, where there was an option of up.
_____
Galning would have been insulted if you told him that he made a good pirate, but the fact of the matter was that he didn't make a bad pirate at all. He didn't think Ru was making a very good pirate at the moment though. The captain was obviously worrying about something and it was making him look fierce. Galning had never heard of a fierce pirate.
"Ease up, matey," he advised, sidling over with an unsteady gait that mimicked the rolling gait he'd observed in many of the drunken pirates they'd already encountered.
He was going to offer more helpful advice peppered with piratical exclamations when his stomach decided to act up. He burped, his stomach gurgled, and then he began to hork into the surf. At least that would keep people from coming too close, he supposed between heaves.

((Barth, Dou, Rime))
As the trio continued walking towards the surf, they saw a small band walking in the waves. Well, Rime and Barth did, anyway, Dou just seemed to miss them altogether. Or, if he did notice them, he made no acknowledgement of their existence. Whether it was Dou's lead that they took or not, the golden male nudged the lioness a bit and turned her away from the band. Dou was the only one who didn't care much if someone saw him hunting for shells. Barth and Rime didn't want anyone to really watch them doing a corsair's past-time.
"Come along, you two. Let's find us a less crowded place to do our fishing," Barth said in a hushed voice before leading the way.

Joya was supposed to be meeting up with Teech, or Blackbeard as he had begun to call himself when he became captain of his own crew to discuss their plans for the future and the fact Teech had sired a litter of cubs, and what that meant to their plans, but they had failed to agree on a meeting place, just a meeting time. And apparently everyone and his brother and his brother's favorite whore had decided it was a good night to be out and about.
"Dammit, Teech," she muttered as she moved around a pair of corsairs who were flirting with a pair of drunken crewmen. "Where in blue blazes are you?"
Oh, and there was no way she was going to babysit her brother's cubs. She would lie for him, steal for him, cheat and kill for him, even sleep with lions she wasn't interested in for him, but she was not babysitting for him. No. Just no.

Nefarian arched a brow at the other's behavior. He hadn't joined the pride for friends or brotherhood and he didn't particularly plan on staying past it's usefulness, thus he didn't know all of the lions well. He'd assumed this other lion was a pirate before approaching, hence the light conversation in a pretty useless attempt to feign comradeship. The black and white lion, however, didn't seem to take well to him at first. Was he...
Afraid?
For a moment, Nefarian was uneasy. Did this lion know him? Something about him? He did bear his father's markings, so perhaps that was it? Either way, he brushed off the discomfort and gave a dry, wry chuckle. He didn't really think it funny, but he at least went through the motions of acting lighthearted.
"Well, I'm needing a good, stiff drink. Maybe see if I can woo a corsair or two, y'get me?" And with that, the lava-marked lion plodded off, orange tipped tail flicking. Looked like Jakk and Pili were entertaining a pair of identical ladies. He grinned inwardly and plopped down near them, but only after making the treck to claim one of the fermented fruits from the cavern.

Tamu plodded along, his dusty gray body low to the ground in hopes that it would help other lions from glimpsing them. It didn't matter where he seemed to lead Flounder, there were lions all over the place. He'd led her down to the water to look for shells or any unusual trinkets that might have washed ashore, but neither had any luck thus far. At first, he had assumed the lions they had seen were other pirates, but now he was suspicious - extremely suspicious. They didn't act a whole lot like pirates in the main camp, or maybe they did, but their behavior was off, like they weren't sure of themselves, and he watched through worried, pink eyes.
"I-I think somethings wrong, Flound. Maybe we oughta tell someone, yeah?"

"Are you daft in the 'ead?"
The little lioness, who's paws were soaked as she waded ever so slightly, turned and frowned at her older friend, tail flicking in frustration. She'd seen the other lions, but they were just other lions and she was pretty sure they were just crew they were unfamiliar with, nothing in particular to worry about. Tamu was just being a big kitten, for all she was aware of. Lily-livered and afraid of a lil' adventure.
"You go 'n rat on 'em you'll be the laughin' stock and you'll get us in trouble, to boot! Y'want that? I didn't think so." She stuck up her nose haughtily, but the fact that she was still very young and it was way past her bed time was obvious, as she was starting to get cranky and snippy.
"If you really gotta tell someone, you best not tattle on me or tell my dad, cos he'll notice I ain't asleep wit' the others, y'got me?"

He was late. He had no valid excuse beyond parenting was like Hell. But he was still late, and he knew Joya would be cross with him. Not that he cared, but if he could avoid the trouble he would.
Once he stepped out from the den he called his, his eyes began roving over the lands. His den was higher than ground level, and he could see a few shadows sneaking about. Their smells were wrong, and he narrowed his eyes. What was going on? Because there was something wrong with these lions.. He just didn't know what, and he didn't like that he didn't know either.
He leapt down the stones that made stairs to his den, his paws hitting the sand. He arched an eyebrow, searching for the scent of his sister. But other scents were hitting his nostrils, and it caused him to be very, very suspicious.
